The genetic variabilities in an experimental population of D. melanogaster were undertaken. The experimental population was composed of D. melanogaster which had the lethal-free and sterile-free second chromosome collected from Sasang natural population. The results were as follows: 1) The frequency of lethal chromosome was 7.53%, 9.56%, and 15.00% at the 171 days, 379 days, and 756 days respectively, and its allelic rate was 9.76% at the 756 days. 2) The variabilities such as semi-lethal, subvital, and normal chromosome were distributed to quasinormal type. 3) The frequency of second chromosome which carried female sterility was estimated to be 3.59%, 7.56% at the 171 days and 756 days, respectively. The frequency of male sterility was analyzed 1.19% at the 171 days and 4.20% at 756 days. 4) The elimination rate caused by deleterious genes in homozygotes was 0.0033, and the effective population size was about 600 flies at the 756 days population. 5) The actual population number was ranging from 1571 to 3229 flies in female and from 1988 to 3608 flies in male.

Purpose: This study was conducted to investigate the extent of diffusion of Intravenous infusion nursing practice guideline among nurses in advanced general hospitals and general hospitals in Korea. Methods: The subjects were 234 nurses who practice the intravenous infusion in 24 advanced general hospitals and general hospitals. Data were collected between October 5 and November 2, 2015 by mail (return rates: 97.5 %). Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-test, and ANOVA with SPSS/ WIN 21. Results: The average guideline diffusion score and levels of diffusion was 3.39±0.58 (level of “use sometimes”). 44 recommendations (46%) were in level of “use always” and 50 recommendations (53%) were in “use sometimes”. Extent of diffusion were significantly different according to present status (F=2.81, p=.040) and education (F=4.35, p=.014). The facilitating factors to use the guideline were education by department of nursing service, convenient composition of guideline and barrier factors were “no time to use the guideline”, “don’t know the guideline” and “there is no guideline at ward”. Conclusion: Extent of diffusion of Intravenous infusion nursing practice guideline among nurses was moderate level. The strategies for promoting the implementation of guideline in clinical practice is needed. Further study of outcome evaluation of guideline implementation will be needed.

The Fucales plants have very homogenous taxonomic characteristics at order level, but show many morphological varitations at species or subspecies levels. This study is one of the serial works to obtain more taxonomic data than morphotaxonomic ones and to clarify the taxonomic ranks and characteristics of Korean Fucales plants through physiological and biochemical analyses. Total lipid compositions of Korean Fucales plants were analyzed by the 3-dimensional TLC method. Major components of phospholipids(PA, PC, PG, PE, DPG, LPE, LPC), neutral fat TG and sterols were commonly contained in each species. Unknown lipids X1, X2 and X3 were contained in genus Sargassum, but Hizikia was lacking X3 and Myagropsis was lacking both X2 and X3. The latter contained unique X8. From the view-point of the phylogeny of lipid metabolism, Sargassum might be more closely related to Hizikia than to Myagropsis. A variant of S. patens from Seongsan showed minute metabolic difference from that of the typical plant; but a variant of S. serratifolium did not show any significant difference from that of the typical plant.

Early studies on Korean Sargassum subjenus Bactrophycus were partly started by Kyetzubg(1843,1849), J. Agardh(1889), Cotton(1906), Yendo(1907) and Okamura(1913, 1914, 1915, 1917). Kang(1966) reported 15 species and 4 subspecies of Sargassum subgenus Bactrophycus and their wide distribution on the Korean coasts in his paper [On the geographical distribution of marine algae in Korea], a foundation stone of Korean phycology. In fact, all the Korean coasts and subtidal zone are inhabited by Sargassum plants. They constitute the most part of the primary production and dominant species of benthic algal vegetation. In 1974, L.K. Lee began to study Sargassum monographically as seaweed resources in Korea. The Koreans eat some species of Sargassum (including Hizikia fusiformis) or use them as fertilizer of the farm near the coast. Among the reported 17 species of Korean Fucales, 12 species belong to Bactrophycus. Yoo(1976) dealt with the descriptions, figures, and a key of 24 species of Korean Fucales plants in her M.S. thesis paper. Among them 16 species belonged to Bactrophycus. Even though the above two works were done with thorough observation of the dry specimens kept in the Pusan Fisheries University Herbarium (most of them were identified by Kang, J.W.) and nation-wide collections, great morphological varieties of these taxa made Lee and Yoo hesitate to publish the paper. Instead, the serial chemotaxonomic studies on the geographical variations of Korean Fucales plants(Yoo and Lee, 1988a, 1988b ; Yoo, et al., 1988) were held to solve the problem, while foreign papers (especially both Drs Tseng's and Yoshida's serial works on Bactrophycus). and authenthic specimens that foreign scholors sent to Korean phycologists induced them to find that several species of Sargassum had been misidentified from the beginning. We introduce here Korean Sargassum subgenus Bactrophycus according to Tseng et al. (1985), mentioning briefly the characteristics of the species, key, and distribution on the Korean coasts.

<P><B>Background</B></P><P>Exosomes are thought to play an important role in exchanging information between cells. The proteins and lipids in exosomes play roles in mediating inflammatory and autoimmune diseases. The aim of this study was to identify exosomal candidate proteins that are related to other inflammatory parameters in rheumatoid arthritis (RA).</P><P><B>Methods</B></P><P>The study population consisted of 60 patients with RA: 30 in the clinical remission (CR) group with a Disease Activity Score in 28 joints based on erythrocyte sedimentation rate (DAS28-ESR) ≤2.6 and 30 in the non-clinical remission (non-CR) group with a DAS28-ESR >2.6. Preparation of exosomes from patient serum samples was performed with the ExoQuick kit, and protein identification/quantification was performed using tandem mass tag labeling/mass spectrometry and an enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Comparisons between groups were made using Student’s <I>t</I> test or the Mann-Whitney <I>U</I> test, as appropriate. Spearman’s correlation coefficients (ρ) were calculated.</P><P><B>Results</B></P><P>We identified six candidate proteins. Exosomal levels of amyloid A (AA) and lymphatic vessel endothelial hyaluronic acid receptor-1 (LYVE-1) differed between the CR and non-CR groups. Both serum and exosomal AA levels were higher in the non-CR group than in the CR group (<I>p</I> = 0.001). Significant positive correlations were found between exosomal AA and C-reactive protein (CRP) as well as between serum AA and CRP (ρ = 0.614, <I>p</I> = 0.001, and ρ = 0.624, <I>p</I> = 0.001, respectively). Although serum levels of LYVE-1 did not differ between the non-CR and CR groups, exosomal levels of LYVE-1 were lower in the non-CR group than in the CR group (<I>p</I> = 0.01). We identified positive correlations between serum/exosomal LYVE-1 and CRP only in the non-CR group (serum ρ = 0.376, <I>p</I> = 0.04; exosome ρ = 0.545, <I>p</I> = 0.002).</P><P><B>Conclusions</B></P><P>Exosomal LYVE-1 shows potential for use as an additional marker of disease activity in patients with RA, and exosomes may carry other useful markers for RA.</P>

<P>This study evaluated the family-based genetic association between autism spectrum disorders (ASDs) and 5 single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in the catechol-<I>o</I>-methyltransferase gene (<I>COMT</I>), which was found among 151 Korean ASDs family trios (dominant model Z = 2.598, <I>P</I> = 0.009, <I>P</I>FDR = 0.045). We found a statistically significant allele transmission or association in terms of the rs6269 SNP in the ASDs trios. Moreover, in the haplotype analysis, the haplotypes with rs6269 demonstrated significant evidence of an association with ASDs (additive model rs6269-rs4818-rs4680-rs769224 haplotype <I>P</I> = 0.004, <I>P</I>FDR = 0.040). Thus, an association may exist between the variants of the <I>COMT</I> gene and the occurrence of ASDs in Koreans.</P>
