Callus and cell suspension cultures of Eurycoma longifolia Jack were initiated from leaves of different trees. The leaf explant of tree Eu9 produced the most calli and also induced high cell biomass in the cell suspension culture. Optimum production of cell biomass could be initiated in proliferating culture medium with a pH of 5.75 prior to autoclaving. The effects of macronutrient inorganic salts of Murashige and Skoog (MS) liquid medium supplemented with X on production of cell biomass of Eurycoma longifolia were also investigated. The highest cell biomass was produced in MS medium containing macronutrients of $21\;mM\;NH_4NO_3,\;12.25\;mM\;KNO_3,\;3.00\;mM\;CaCl_2.2H_2O,\;0.575\;mM\;MgSO_4.7H_2O$, and $1.83\;mM\;KH_2PO_4$. A new medium labeled as TAM was formulated for the production of Eurycoma longifolia cell biomass in the cell suspension culture.

This study examines the relationship between employee engagement and goal orientation toward competence. In addition, it also examines the relationship between competence and employee performance in financial institutions in Indonesia. Questionnaires were distributed to several employees who work at financial institutions in Aceh, North Sumatra, and Riau. The basis for selecting the research object was that most financial institutions have similar business products. The similarities are the marketing of home loan ownership products and multipurpose investments. The three study regions are located in western Indonesia's most central provinces and have a significant amount of trade. The sampling technique used was purposive sampling based on specific criteria for the respondents. 275 employees made up the research sample, and partial least squares data analysis methods were applied. In data analysis, initial testing was carried out on the components of the research statement items to see their validity and reliability. The results of this study indicate that employee engagement behavior can improve employee performance, which improves financial institutions' organizational performance. The study's findings offer suggestions for policies and guidelines that will encourage productive work behavior among employees and boost organizational performance. The fact that employees must think and act creatively to develop their competence and become superior employees is another distinctive feature of this research.

위암 환자에서 미토콘드리아 DNA (mtDNA)의 양적 변화가 보고 되고 있으며 이러한 변화가 위암의 발암이나 진행에 관여되는 것으로 추정되고 있다. 그리나 위암에서 미토콘드리아 단백질이나 mtDNA에 의해 암호화된 산화적 인산화(OXPHOS) 단백질의 양적 변화에 관한 연구는 아직까지 미비한 실정이다. 본 연구에서는 위암환자 조직 및 세포주를 이용하여 mtDNA 양 그리고 미토콘드리아 단백질 및 OXPHOS 단백질의 양을 분석하였다. 또한, mtDNA 양적 변화와 위암 환자의 임상병리학적 특징을 연관 분석하였다. MtDNA 양을 분석하기 위하여 qPCR 기법을 그리고 단백질 분석에는 Western blot 기법을 각각 활용하였다. 총 27개의 위암 환자 샘플에서 약 80%에 해당하는 22개의 환자 위암조직에서 정상조직에 비해 mtDNA 양이 감소하였으며, 나머지 환자에서는 mtDNA 양이 증가하였다. 이러한 mtDNA 양이 감소한 위암 조직 샘플에서는 미토콘드리아 단백질 및 OXPHOS 단백질의 양도 같이 감소하였다. 한편, 본 연구에 사용된 총 5개의 위암 세포주 모두에서 mtDNA 양이 감소하였다 그러나 위암 세포주에서는 mtDNA 양적 감소와 미토콘드리아 단백질 및 OXPHOS 단백질의 양적 감소가 항상 일치하지는 않았다. 이러한 연구결과는 위암 조직 및 세포주에서 mtDNA 양의 감소가 흔하며 이는 mtDNA 양적 변화가 위암의 생성에 관여함을 제시한다. Alterations in mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) copy numbers have been reported in patients with stomach cancer and suggested to play a role in gastric carcinogenesis or gastric cancer progression. However, changes in the levels of mitochondrial proteins or mtDNA-encoded oxidative phosphorylation (OXPHOS) proteins in gastric cancer remain unclear. In this study, we investigated mtDNA contents, mitochondrial protein levels, and mtDNA-encoded OXPHOS protein levels in gastric cancer tissues and cell lines. We correlated mtDNA copy numbers with clinicopathologic features of the gastric cancer samples used in this study and used quantitative PCR to analyze the mtDNA copy numbers of the gastric cancer tissues and cell lines. Western blot analysis was used for assessing the amounts of mitochondrial proteins and mtDNA-encoded OXPHOS proteins. Among the 27 gastric cancer samples, 22 showed a reduction in mtDNA copy numbers. The mtDNA content was increased in the other five samples relative to that in normal matched gastric tissues. Mitochondrial protein and OXPHOS protein levels were reduced in some gastric cancer tissues. However, mitochondrial protein and OXPHOS protein levels in gastric cancer cell lines were not always in line with their mtDNA contents. The mtDNA copy numbers were reduced in five gastric cancer cell lines tested in this study. In summary, this study reports a common reduction in mtDNA contents in gastric carcinoma tissues and cell lines, pointing to the possible involvement of mtDNA content alterations in tumorigenesis of the stomach.
The Impact of Trade Openness on Economic Growth: Evidence from Agricultural Countries

The study investigates the effect of trade openness on the economic growth of agricultural countries. The information of export, import, gross domestic product (GDP), Gross Fixed Capital Formation (GFCF), and population of 72 agrarian nations generated by the World Bank from 2011 until 2020 is used for data examination. Then, before panel data analysis, a preferred model is chosen from among commoneffects, fixed-effects, and random effects. The best model turns out to be a fixed-effect model. The result reports that from 2011 to 2020; 16 out of 72 nations have succeeded in experiencing positive economic growth, the value of GFCF was US$ 2,859.04 billion, and later grew by 19 percent to US$ 3,393.73 billion, the population tends to increase continuously year by year, and 2 out of 72 countries experienced export plus import exceed their GDP. Moreover, trade openness is positively associated with economic growth, with a coefficient of 3.81. Besides that, an increase in GFCF may boost economic growth by approximately 3.32 percent. On the contrary, one percent additional population significantly delivers around 25.46 percent negative economic growth. To sum up, the higher intensity of products or services sold and bought abroad may enhance the economic performance.

The magnitude of the rise in inflation rate in Indonesia during the height of the 1997 financial crisis was among the sharpest that the East Asian economies has ever witnessed in the recent decades. This paper empirically tests the monetary hypotheses of inflation and compares and contrasts the sources of price changes during the pre- and post-1997 financial crisis. We find a high explanatory power of the monetary model for the post-crisis period, but not for the pre-crisis. The high volatilities of the local currency and the unprecedented rapid growth rate of base money during the post-crisis are found to be the two key monetary determinants of the inflation in the country.

The study of natural fiber composite in the field of materials has indeed sparked interest among many due to its essential biodegradability feature. As such, pineapple leaf fiber (PALF) is not only biodegradable, but also environmental friendly, as opposed to synthetic fiber. Hence, this paper investigates the effect of fiber loading, as well as the inclusion of maleic anhydride polyethylene (MAPE) to the mechanical properties of PALF reinforced polylactic acid composites. Therefore, untreated PALF with 0, 5, 10, and 15% of weight content ratio, as well as PALF at 10% weight ratio treated with 2, 4, and 6% of MAPE, had been prepared via roll mill mixing at 190 °C and followed by hot compression molding to prepare the specimen sheets. The results obtained from this study revealed that the tensile strength (TS) and the Young’s modulus were at their highest levels for untreated 10% PALF, while the impact and the flexure properties displayed a decrease as the content of fiber increased. Other than that, the inclusion of MAPE indicated that the tensile properties exhibited lower value compared to that of untreated. However, the flexural and the impact properties of composites increased with the presence of MAPE. As a conclusion, the study demonstrates that the mechanical properties depended on two major factors; (1) fiber loading, and (2) the compatibility between matrix polymer and fiber.
TRPV1 Is Associated with Testicular Apoptosis in Mice

Reproductive potential decreases with age. A decrease in male fertility is due to a combination of morphological and molecular alterations in the testes. Transient receptor potential vanilloid receptor-1 (TRPV1) is associated with aging and lifespan, and its activation causes apoptotic cell death in various cell types. However, the effect of TRPV1 on testicular apoptosis in aged mice has not yet been reported. TRPV1 knockout (KO) mice had a longer lifespan than that of wild-type (WT) mice. Lifespan was increased by 11.8% in male TRPV1 KO mice compared to that in WT mice. TRPV1 KO males lived approximately 100 days longer than WT males on average, and the maximum lifespan was markedly extended in TRPV1 KO mice compared with that in WT mice. The TRPV1 expression levels were highly increased in the testes of older mice. TRPV1 was expressed in the entire testes region of the old mice. In addition, old TRPV1 KO mice had lower testicular apoptosis than that of WT mice. Our results show that TRPV1 induces testicular apoptosis and suggest that TRPV1 may be associated with testicular aging.
