        Uniqueness of meromorphic solutions of a certain type of difference equations

        In this paper, we study the uniqueness of two finite order transcendental meromorphic solutions $f(z)$ and $g(z)$ of the following complex difference equation $$A_{1}(z)f(z+1)+A_{0}(z)f(z)=F(z)e^{\alpha(z)}$$ when they share 0, $\infty$ CM, where $A_{1}(z),$ $A_{0}(z),$ $F(z)$ are non-zero polynomials, $\alpha(z)$ is a polynomial. Our result generalizes and complements some known results given recently by Cui and Chen, Li and Chen. Examples for the precision of our result are also supplied.

        Ethical leadership, psychological capital, work engagement and job satisfaction: the moderating role of moral identity in the Malawi government sector

        Based on social learning theory , this study investigates whether psychological capital mediates the ethical leadership- work engagement link and the ethical leadership-job satisfaction link. Again, it tests whether moral identity moderates the relationship between ethical leadership and psychological capital. With data collected from 177 public servants in Malawi, this study’s findings reveal that psychological capital fully mediates the relationship between ethical leadership and work engagement while it partially mediates the ethical leadership-job satisfaction link. Furthermore, the results reveal that moral identity moderates the relationship between ethical leadership and psychological capital. The study has important implications for practice especially in human resource management in developing and adopting practices that promote work engagement and job satisfaction among employees.

        Antifungal effect and chitinase activities of the froth of spittlebug Poophilus costalis (Walker) (Hemiptera: Cercopoidea: Aphrophoridae)

        Nymphs of xylophagous spittlebug Poophilus costalis (Walker, 1851) produce froth that covers their entire body surface. However, no mold has ever been found on this froth under natural conditions. This study has shown that the froth of P. costalis can repress the growth of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. pisi. Three chitinases, i.e., β-N-acetylglucosaminidase, chitobiosidase, and endochitinase, with specific activities of 1.759, 0.365, and 1.172 U/mg protein, respectively, and a protease with minimal activity have been detected in this froth. β-N-actylglucosaminidase activity was also detected in the source of the froth, the nymphal Malpighian tubules and the host plant Commelina diffusa Burm. f. These findings suggest that the antifungal effect of the froth from P. costalis may be attributed to the chitinase produced by its Malpighian tubules and/or its host plant.

      • Analysis of Power System QV Curve by Fuzzy Modeling

        Voltage instability of power system comes from increasing load rapidly, and causes bus voltage to drop. When voltage is out of control and it can be voltage collapse. This paper presents the fuzzy modeling approach to the description QV curve of power system for analysis of voltage stability. The QV curve can identify voltage stability limit, and it determine robustness of power system. The fuzzy system model is basically a collection of fuzzy IF-THEN rules that are combined via fuzzy reasoning for describing the features of a system under study. The method of fuzzy modeling has been proven to be well-suited for modeling nonlinear industrial processes described by input-output data. In view of the nonlinear characteristic of the QV curve, the method of fuzzy modeling is employed for representing the curve. Based on the Sugeno-type fuzzy model, various models with different numbers of modeling rules are used to describing the QV curve. It is found that such fuzzy model offers both quantitative and qualitative descriptions for the QV curve.

        A fermentation strategy for production of recombinant protein subjected to plasmid instability

        The appearance of plasmid-losing cells in a recombinant Escherichia coli culture was observed when the cell mass became doubled after induction, which corresponded to the timing of cell fission. Accordingly, a two-stage fermentation strategy capable of maintaining plasmid stability without selective pressure in a recombinant E. coli culture was proposed. In the first stage (cell growth stage), a high cell density culture was obtained by incubating the cells in the R medium. In the second stage (producing stage), the cells were devoted to producing the recombinant protein by introducing the fresh LB medium supplemented with isopropyl-β-D-thiogalactopyranoside (IPTG). It was necessary to prevent the doubling in the cell mass after induction; otherwise cell fission would occur and generate plasmid-losing cells. The present strategy is expected to be extensively applicable in recombinant E. coli cultures

      • Extensive Power Factor Calculation Method Using FPGA Considering Power Quality Disturbance

        The power quality is more and more serious, because a lot of information technology equipments and power electric converters were used in recent years. Harmonic and load unbalance can affect the measurement result of power factor of utility. This paper used six formulas for power factor measurement, and they will be different according to the characteristics of load. The technology of semiconductor was more and more maturely. Design of SOC (System On a Chip) is a trend to achieve the strong and small volume in the future. The Fast Fourier Transform (FFT) is used to analyze the six formula of power factor. The simulation system was modeled in Hardware Description Language (VHDL) and some novel IP (intellectual property) cores, such as CORDIC core and FFT core by the way of Bottom-Up. The measurement data were employed to calculate active, reactive and apparent power. The average error rate of our design is about 0.05%.

        Validation of Actiwatch for Assessment of Sleep-wake States in Preterm Infants

        Purpose: The purpose of this study was to validate the Actiwatch with behaviorally determined sleepewake state in preterm infants and to explore the influence of postmenstrual age on the accuracy ofActiwatch. Methods: A prospective and comparative research design was used. Twenty-four preterm infants withpostmenstrual age ranging from 28e38 weeks were studied. The infants were studied for 2 hours betweentwo feedings. Infant's sleep and wake state was measured every 30 seconds using Actiwatch andthe Anderson Behavioral State Scale simultaneously. Results: Actiwatch demonstrated high agreement, sensitivity, and predictivity of sleep state, whenvalidated with the Anderson Behavioral State Scale at the setting of high and automatic activitythresholds, and was not influenced by the infant's postmenstrual age. However, lower specificity andpredictivity were found in the wake state, and influenced by postmenstrual age. Conclusion: Results of this study suggest that high activity thresholds are the most accurate for determiningsleep state in preterm infants, and health care professionals must take the limitations intoconsideration while using the Actiwatch to assess wake states.

        Microcantilever biosensor: sensing platform, surface characterization and multiscale modeling

        The microcantilever (MCL) sensor is one of the most promising platforms for next-generation label-free biosensing applications. It outperforms conventional label-free detection methods in terms of portability and parallelization. In this paper, an overview of recent advances in our understanding of the coupling between biomolecular interactions and MCL responses is given. A dual compact optical MCL sensing platform was built to enable biosensing experiments both in gas-phase environments and in solutions. The thermal bimorph effect was found to be an effective nanomanipulator for the MCL platform calibration. The study of the alkanethiol self-assembly monolayer (SAM) chain length effect revealed that 1-octanethiol ($C_8H_{17}SH$) induced a larger deflection than that from 1-dodecanethiol ($C_{12}H_{25}SH$) in solutions. Using the clinically relevant biomarker C-reactive protein (CRP), we revealed that the analytical sensitivity of the MCL reached a diagnostic level of $1{\sim}500{\mu}g/ml$ within a 7% coefficient of variation. Using grazing incident x-ray diffractometer (GIXRD) analysis, we found that the gold surface was dominated by the (111) crystalline plane. Moreover, using X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) analysis, we confirmed that the Au-S covalent bonds occurred in SAM adsorption whereas CRP molecular bindings occurred in protein analysis. First principles density functional theory (DFT) simulations were also used to examine biomolecular adsorption mechanisms. Multiscale modeling was then developed to connect the interactions at the molecular level with the MCL mechanical response. The alkanethiol SAM chain length effect in air was successfully predicted using the multiscale scheme.

        Fermentation process development for hyaluronic acid production by Streptococcus zooepidemicus ATCC 39920

        The development of a fermentation strategy for hyaluronic acid (HA) production by Streptococcus zooepidemicus ATCC 39920 has been explored. The specific HA productivity (YP/X) was affected by the medium carbon-tonitrogen (C/N) ratio rather than the specific growth rate of cells. Accordingly, HA fermentation should be performed in a balanced medium with an optimum C/N ratio of 2 : 1 in a batch culture. To improve the performance of the batch culture, the operation conditions for the fill-and-draw culture were investigated. It was found that the timing of medium exchange is critical for successfully performing fill-and-draw operations. Since streptococcal cells at the stationary phase might lose the capacity of HA synthesis, the displacement of the medium in a fill-and-draw culture should be started at the late exponential growth phase.

        STANCU TYPE GENERALIZATION OF MODIFIED GAMMA OPERATORS BASED ON q-INTEGERS

        In this paper, we propose the Stancu type generalization of a kind of modified q-Gamma operators. We estimate the moments of these operators and give the basic convergence theorem. We also obtain the Voronovskaja type theorem. Furthermore, we obtain the local approximation, rate of convergence and weighted approximation for these operators.
