INDIA : PAKISTAN Sports as a Tool For Peace (Cricket Diplomacy)
Shakeel Ahmad Shahid 한국코칭능력개발원 2015 International Journal of Coaching Science Vol.9 No.1
The purpose of this paper is to describe and analyze the role of sport specially Cricket for the development of Peace between India and Pakistan. After the partition of both countries the most problem for the peace is Kashmir which is the occupied area by India. Further aims are to show the importance for the Pakistanis and Indian and the importance and meaning of this sport in historical periods. The game of Cricket can be played in Three ways: one is One day international ODI and the other two are T.20 including Test Cricket with two teams consisting 11 Players of each team. Cricket diplomacy in the subcontinent is nothing new. Pakistan"s President General Zia was the first to use it when he made a sudden visit to India in the mid-1980s to watch an India-Pakistan game and ease tensions arising from a military exercise by India along the Pakistan border. He also met Indian PM Rajiv Gandhi informally in an attempt to defuse the tension. But whether Mr Singh"s diplomacy will lead to any significant thaw in relations or lead to a resumption of bilateral cricket ties is a moot question.
