Surface-mediated Photoalignment of Liquid Crystalline Polymers

Most polymer films have a free surface (surface exposed to the air). Recent studies have emphasized the importance of the free surface in many aspects of polymer processing. We have recently shown that the free surface plays the critical role in controlling the mesogen alignment of side chain liquid crystalline polymers (SCLCPs).<sup>1</sup> A skin layer (typically 20 nm thickness) or inkjet-printed pattern at the free surface is able to regulate the mesogen orientation of SCLCP films of micrometers thickness.<sup>2,3</sup> The mesogen orientation can be switched by the photo responsive top surface both in the in-plane<sup>2</sup> and out-of-plane3 directions. Another interesting aspect is the surface effect for the induction of surface morphing.<sup>4</sup> Surface relief grating formation could be performed also for a light-inert SCLCP films with a photo responsive surface skin layer.<sup>5</sup> (1) T. In this study, we determined what the more favored means of communication for “confession” strategies used by both men and women. Then, it is in our best interest to analyze the linguistic structures of the communication strategies discussed. As a result of the study, the confession expressions that were revealed were: “Please go out with me”, to express the emotions of liking someone through “I like you”, and lastly “I want us to be together”. Instead of just “Please go out with me”, other expressions such as “I like you” and “I want to be with you” were also confirmed in this study. In the study, there were two most popular methods of confession which was “expressing/confessing the feeling of liking the person” or “to go out on a date together”. Despite those two most popular methods, there were also eleven other types of ways of expressing one’s functional expressions.
Variation of entanglement entropy in scattering process

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>In a scattering process, the final state is determined by an initial state and an S-matrix. We focus on two-particle scattering processes and consider the entanglement between these particles. For two types initial states, <I>i.e.</I>, an unentangled state and an entangled one, we calculate perturbatively the change of entanglement entropy from the initial state to the final one. Then we show a few examples in a field theory and in quantum mechanics.</P>
ON THE USE OF REALIZED QUASI-MONTE CARLO METHOD IN EUROPEAN OPTION PRICING

The pricing of options is a very important problem encountered in complex financial markets. The famous Black-Scholes model provides explicit closed form solutions for the values of European call and put options. But for many other options, either there are no closed form solutions, or if such closed form solution exist, the formulas exhibiting them are complicated and difficult to evaluate accurately by conventional methods. In this case, Monte Carlo methods may prove to be valuable. Monte Carlo methods are often used when other methods are difficult to implement due to the complexity of the problem. The disadvantages of Monte Carlo Methods are that the error term is probability and that it can be computationally burdensome to achieve a high level of accuracy. Quasi-Monte Carlo is technique for improving the efficiency of the Monte Carlo Method. Under the conventional approach pseudo-random numbers yields an error bound that is probabilistic which can be a disadvantage. Another drawback of the standard approach is that many simulations may be required to obtain a high level of accuracy. Quasi-Monte Carlo Methods use sequences that are deterministic instead of random. These sequences improve convergence and give rise to deterministic error bounds. But these Methods have some limits which does not reflect the trend of rise, fall and hold. We divide 2-dimensional space into three parts. Each three parts indicate rise, fall and hold. If this trend apply to the Quasi-Monte Carlo Methods, it may be better than the known Methods.
