End-to-end application throughput, network power consumption and routing control overhead at network layer of Cognitive Radio Ad-Hoc Networks (CRAHNs) is mainly based on common control channel. Hence, reliable and robust CCC design for CR-AODV routing protocol is utmost important to provide shortest end-to-end channel-path and reduced node, network power consumption. State-of-the-art CR-AODV routing protocols propose In-band or Out-of-band CCC design for routing and cognitive control message exchange. But, multichannel hidden terminals, longer end-to-end channel-path and increased channel rendezvous time results in additional routing and cognitive control overhead with longer end-to-end delays and increased node power consumption. To evade this, we propose Directional antenna based Hybrid-CCC-CR-AODV routing protocol with adaptive power control algorithm for CRAHNs. Experimental results reveal that proposed Directional antenna based Hybrid-CCC-CR-AODV routing protocol has decreased routing and cognitive control overhead with increased end-to-end application throughput when compared with Omnidirectional antenna based In-band/Out-of-band CCC-CR-AODV routing protocols.
