The Effect of Leadership Style on Organizational Commitment and Employee Performance: An Empirical Study from Indonesia

Dianta Waode NURANI,Samdin SAMDIN,Nasrul NASRUL,Endro SUKOTJO 한국유통과학회 2021 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.8 No.12

This study aims to: 1) analyze the effect of leadership style on job satisfaction and organizational commitment, 2) analyze the effect of leadership style, job satisfaction and organizational commitment on employee performance, 3) examine the indirect effect of leadership style on employee performance mediated by job satisfaction and organizational commitment. The population of this research is all employees who have structural positions totaling 95 respondents. The sample was selected using the census technique, resulting in a total of 95 respondents in the research sample. Methods of data collection was using a questionnaire. The research model is structural so that the research data is analyzed using SEM Smart PLS 2. Research results: 1) leadership style has a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction and organizational commitment, 2) leadership style, job satisfaction, and organizational commitment have a positive and significant effect on employee performance, 3) Job satisfaction and organizational commitment mediates the influence of leadership style on employee performance, and has a positive and significant effect. Indirect influence gives stronger results than direct influence. As a result, it is hoped that university leadership will use an effective leadership style and pay attention to employee work satisfaction and commitment to boost employee performance.

      • Phage-Based Structural Color Sensors and Their Pattern Recognition Sensing System

        Lee, Ju Hun,Fan, Benson,Samdin, Tuan D.,Monteiro, David A.,Desai, Malav S.,Scheideler, Olivia,Jin, Hyo-Eon,Kim, Soyoun,Lee, Seung-Wuk American Chemical Society 2017 ACS NANO Vol.11 No.4

The mammalian olfactory system provides great inspiration for the design of intelligent sensors. To this end, we have developed a bioinspired phage nanostructure-based color sensor array and a smartphonebased sensing network system. Using a M13 bacteriophage (phage) as a basic building block, we created structural color matrices that are composed of liquid-crystalline bundled nanofibers from self-assembled phages. The phages were engineered to express cross-responsive receptors on their major coat protein (pVIII), leading to rapid, detectable color changes upon exposure to various target chemicals, resulting in chemical- and concentration-dependent color fingerprints. Using these sensors, we have successfully detected 5-90% relative humidity with 0.2% sensitivity. In addition, after modification with aromatic receptors, we were able to distinguish between various structurally similar toxic chemicals including benzene, toluene, xylene, and aniline. Furthermore, we have developed a method of interpreting and disseminating results from these sensors using smartphones to establish a wireless system. Our phage-based sensor system has the potential to be very useful in improving national security and monitoring the environment and human health.

      • Micro : A View from the Practitioners

Khairil Wahidin Awang,Yuhanis Abdul Aziz,Zaiton Samdin 세계문화관광학회 2011 Conference Proceedings Vol.12 No.-

The tourism sector has been depicted with active participation of large business establishments as well as multinational corporations. Nevertheless there is still place for smaller businesses. The sector as a matter of fact is dominated by a huge number of small businesses for which their contributions to the local economies cannot simply be ignored. This paper therefore aims to elucidate the factors that shape the development of these small businesses. Data from in-depth interviews with owner-managers of micro small and medium-sized hotels formed the bulk of the arguments. Findings suggest that although the sector is has low entry level but still many operators faced major obstacles in sustaining their operations. This deprives the opportunities to further grow the sector.
