Sole Proprietorship Business Succession in Malaysia: A Perspective of Civil and Islamic Law*

Afifah HAMDAN,Nasrul Hisyam NOR MUHAMAD,Mohd Khairy KAMARUDIN,Abdul Basit SAMAT@DARAWI,Nik Mohd Zaim AB RAHIM,Nur Izzati MOHAMAD NORZILAN 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.3

Issues relating to business inheritance are a primary focus for business owners. Business inheritance is critical to ensuring that the business can be managed by the next generation and family members can benefit from the earnings and revenues. Therefore, preliminary planning must be done while the business owner is still alive by selecting the appropriate business inheritance mechanism for Muslims in Malaysia. The mechanisms of business inheritance, notably faraid, hibah, amanah, and hibah amanah will be examined in this paper from both a civil and Islamic perspective. By reviewing written journals and previous research, this research utilizes the library method. According to this study, business succession can be carried out by naming a beneficiary as a partner in the company or by completing the ownership transfer process while the owner is still living. In the other situation, it can be done by anyone among the heirs agreeing to re-register the business as usual. Meanwhile, there are four main instruments in Islamic law that can be used: faraid, hibah, amanah, and commercial hibah. According to this study, each instrument has a different impact on business succession. Entrepreneurs should use these instruments in their firm succession planning.

Inter Vivos Transfers Based on Affection for Wealth Distribution Planning in Malaysia

KAMARUDIN, Mohd Khairy,NOR MUHAMAD, Nasrul Hisyam,ALMA'AMUN, Suhaili,ABDULLAH, Abdul Hafiz,SAAT, Syahrulnizam,SAMURAH, Nurul Osman Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.4

Inter vivos in the context of wealth and estate planning can be generally defined as a transfer that takes place between the livings. Parents are motivated to transfer for altruisme and exchange. In this context, this study aims to explore another potential motives of inter vivos, which is 'affection'. Data is collected through semi-structured interviews with inter vivos experts who have published articles in this area. The interview is encoded and thematic analysis is carried out to classify themes and subthemes that exist in the inter vivos transfers. This study discovers four main themes, which indicate that inter vivos transfers based on affection can be enlightened by the relationship between parents and children, responsibility for children, types of inter vivos, and effects to other heirs. Relationship between parents and children can be explained as parents transfer their wealth to the closest children, children who care for them and to family members only. Parents also are responsible to protect their children after they die and assist them who are in need. Types of inter vivos are considered as boundless inter vivos and without any material return. Inter vivos based on affection also aims not to abuse other heirs.

C3a Receptor Inhibition Protects Brain Endothelial Cells Against Oxygen-glucose Deprivation/Reperfusion

        Saif Ahmad,Adam Kindelin,Maaz Ahmed,Md Nasrul Hoda,Kanchan Bhatia,Andrew F. Ducruet 한국뇌신경과학회 2019 Experimental Neurobiology Vol.28 No.2

The complement cascade is a central component of innate immunity which plays a critical role in brain inflammation. Complement C3a receptor (C3aR) is a key mediator of post-ischemic cerebral injury, and pharmacological antagonism of the C3a receptor is neuroprotective in stroke. Cerebral ischemia injures brain endothelial cells, causing blood brain barrier (BBB) disruption which further exacerbates ischemic neuronal injury. In this study, we used an in vitro model of ischemia (oxygen glucose deprivation; OGD) to investigate the protective effect of a C3aR antagonist (C3aRA, SB290157) on brain endothelial cells (bEnd.3). Following 24 hours of reperfusion, OGD-induced cell death was assessed by TUNEL and Caspase-3 staining. Western blot and immunocytochemistry were utilized to demonstrate that OGD upregulates inflammatory, oxidative stress and antioxidant markers (ICAM-1, Cox-2, Nox- 2 and MnSOD) in endothelial cells and that C3aRA treatment significantly attenuate these markers. We also found that C3aRA administration restored the expression level of the tight junction protein occludin in endothelial cells following OGD. Interestingly, OGD/reperfusion injury increased the phosphorylation of ERK1/2 and C3aR inhibition significantly reduced the activation of ERK suggesting that endothelial C3aR may act via ERK signaling. Furthermore, exogenous C3a administration stimulates these same inflammatory mechanisms both with and without OGD, and C3aRA suppresses these C3a-mediated responses, supporting an antagonist role for C3aRA. Based on these results, we conclude that C3aRA administration attenuates inflammation, oxidative stress, ERK activation, and protects brain endothelial cells following experimental brain ischemia.

Chemical Stability and Additive Leach Out in Polyethersulfone Membranes Blended with Dragon Blood Resin: An Investigative Study

        Ambarita Aulia Chintia,Mulyati Sri,Arahman Nasrul,Bilad Muhammad Roil,Gül Bahar Yavuztürk,Korkut Sevde,Koyuncu İsmail 한국화학공학회 2024 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.41 No.4

Dragon blood resin (DBR) has been reported as an eff ective bio-based additive for polymeric membrane fabrication. It improves permeability and antifouling properties, but its weak chemical bond makes it susceptible to leaching. This study investigates the chemical stability and leaching behavior of polyethersulfone (PES) membranes modifi ed with DBR in an alkaline solution. The study involved immersing two types of PES-based membranes, one loaded with 3% DBR (M-3) during the fabrication and one without (M-0), in a 0.01-N NaOH solution for 5 days. The results show that M-0 had good resistance to high alkaline solutions, while M-3 was less stable. Pure water permeability and water contact angle increased with immersion time, with an average percentage increase of 90.74 and 19.48%, respectively. The leaching of DBR from the PES membrane could be attributed to its polarity and the breaking of the DBR bonds, causing them to break apart into smaller molecules. The leaching of DBR also leaves a void that increases the pore size. This report provides useful information for the optimal design of a bio-based PES membrane.

Effectiveness of Mesenchymal Stem Cell Secretome on Wound Healing: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis

        Suhandi Cecep,Mohammed Ahmed Fouad Abdelwahab,Wilar Gofarana,El-Rayyes Ali,Wathoni Nasrul 한국조직공학과 재생의학회 2023 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.20 No.7

BACKGROUND: Secretome provides promising potential in replacing cell-based therapies in wound repair therapy. This study aimed to systematically review and conduct a meta-analysis on the effectiveness of secretome in promoting wound healing. METHODS: To ensure the rigor and transparency of our study, we followed the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines, as registered in PROSPERO with ID: CRD42023412671. We conducted a comprehensive search on four electronic databases to identify studies evaluating the effect of secretome on various clinical parameters of wound repair. In addition, we evaluated the risk of bias for each study using the Jadad and Newcastle-Ottawa scale. To synthesize the data, we employed a fixed-effects model and calculated the mean difference or odds ratio (OR) with a 95% confidence interval (CI). RESULTS: Based on six included articles, secretome is known to affect several clinical parameters in wound healing included the size and depth of ulcers during healing; the E'chelle d’e´valuation clinique des cicatrices d’acne (ECCA) score, epidermal thickness, collagen fibers, abnormal elastic tissues, volume of atrophic acne scars, skin pore volume, and erythema during acne scar healing; and microcrust areas, erythema index, transepidermal water loss, volume of atrophic acne scars, erythema, and relative gene expression of procollagen type I, procollagen type III, and elastin were evaluated in wound healing after laser treatment. Meta-analysis studies showed that secretome reduced ulcer size (mean difference: 0.87, 95% CI of 0.37–1.38, p = 0.0007), decreased ulcer depth (mean difference: 0.18, 95% CI of 0.11–0.25, p\0.00001), and provided patient satisfaction (odds ratio: 9.71, 95% CI of 3.47–21.17, p\0.0001). However, secretome failed to reach significance in clinical improvement (OR 0.38, 95% CI 0.10, 1.53, p = 0.06). CONCLUSION: The secretome provides good effectiveness in accelerating wound healing through a mechanism that correlates with several clinical parameters of wound repair.

Optimization and Comparison of Typical Elastic Actuators in Powered Ankle-foot Prosthesis

Jingjing Liu,Noor Azuan Abu Osman,Mouaz Al Kouzbary,Hamza Al Kouzbary,Nasrul Anuar Abd Razak,Hanie Nadia Shasmin,Nooranida Arifin 제어·로봇·시스템학회 2022 International Journal of Control, Automation, and Vol.20 No.1

Elastic actuators are broadly applied in the design of the powered ankle-foot prosthesis, so it is a significant task to select and optimize a suitable elastic actuator. Dynamic models of seven kinds of elastic actuators are constructed from a two-degrees-of-freedom vibration system in rotation. With input parameters from sound ankle data during walking, motor data, and the three-dimensional model of the proposed prosthesis, two objectives, which are to minimize the peak mechanical power and mean energy consumption power of the motor, respectively, are optimized by changing the parameters of elastic elements. Unidirectional parallel elastic actuator (UPEA) and UPEA with series spring (SE+UPEA) optimize nearly 75% compared to the direct-driver actuator (DDA) in minimizing the characteristic of peak mechanical power. When it comes to reducing mean energy consumption power, UPEA is also the best, and its performance is at least 15% better than those of the other four kinds of elastic actuators with effective optimization. Besides, features of torque and velocity on the driver end are also compared from elastic actuators to sound ankle. The comparison contributes to understanding the optimization mechanism of different elastic elements, and the optimized and compared performances of elastic actuators can be utilized as the selection basis in the design of the powered ankle-foot prosthesis.

Recent advancements of nitric oxide-releasing hydrogels for wound dressing applications

        Hasan Nurhasni,Jiafu Cao,Mustopa Apon Zaenal,Himawan Achmad,Umami Rifqiyah Nur,Ullah Muneeb,Wathoni Nasrul,유진욱 한국약제학회 2023 Journal of Pharmaceutical Investigation Vol.53 No.6

Background Hydrogels are three-dimensional (3D) polymer networks that can absorb significant volumes of water inside their interstices and continue connecting these interstices while maintaining an inflated network structure; this capability is due to their unusual 3D crosslinked polymer meshwork structure. Hydrogels are promising wound dressings, particularly for chronic wounds, owing to their wound-healing properties, such as flexibility, adhesion, moisture control, biocompatibility, and biodegradability. Nitric oxide (NO) is a small molecule that has been thoroughly investigated for its wound-healing activity. The diverse roles of NO in wound healing require its stable delivery to the wound site. Thus, hydrogels have been evaluated as promising scaffolds for storing and releasing NO in a controlled manner to promote and accelerate wound healing. Area covered This review sought to introduce the types of polymers used to prepare hydrogel-based wound dressings and the types of NO donors used as wound healing promoters. The preparation method of the hydrogels and their physical and chemical properties were presented herein, and recent studies on NO-releasing hydrogels for wound therapy were summarized and discussed. Selected hydrogels with unique characteristics and significant findings for wound healing were also emphasized. Expert opinion Owing to the importance of chronic wounds in healthcare, the development of functional materials that support proper and rapid wound healing is required. NO-releasing hydrogels can be employed for wound dressing applications owing to their controlled NO releasability and antibacterial and wound healing activities.
