Background: The free vascularized fibula flap presents many advantages such as sufficient length of the bony segment, good vascularization, better quality of the bone, and a long vascular pedicle, but it is also associated with some disadvantages with regard to prosthetic rehabilitation because of its limited height. Improvement in bone height is necessary for ideal dental implant treatment of reconstructed mandibles. Case presentation: For two squamous cell carcinoma patients, mandibular bone reconstruction was performed secondarily with the peroneal flap after tumor resection. Since the bone height was insufficient at the time of implant treatment, occlusion reconstruction by dental implant was performed after vertical distraction osteogenesis. Conclusions: Vertical distraction osteogenesis is a suitable treatment option for alveolar ridge deficiency resulting from fibula transplantation for mandibular reconstruction following tumor surgery.
S100A16 is a Prognostic Marker for Lung Adenocarcinomas

Background: Many functional molecules controlling diverse cellular function are included in low-molecular weight proteins and peptides. Materials and Methods: To identify proteins controlling function in lung adenocarcinomas (AC), we performed two-dimensional gel electrophoresis employing tricine-SDS polyacrylamide in the second dimension (tricine 2-DE). This system was able to detect proteins under 1 kDa even with post-translational modifications. To confirm the utility of detected proteins as novel tumor markers for AC, we performed immunohistochemical analysis using 170 formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded lung AC tissues. Results: Tricine 2-DE revealed that five proteins including S100A16 were overexpressed in lung AC-derived cells compared with lung squamous cell carcinoma, small cell carcinoma, and large cell neuroendocrine carcinoma-derived cells. Immunohistochemically, S100A16 showed various subcellular localization in lung cancer tissues and a membranous staining status was correlated with the T-factor (P=0.0008), pathological stage (P=0.0015), differentiation extent (P=0.0001), lymphatic invasion (P=0.0007), vascular invasion (P=0.0001), pleural invasion (P=0.0087), and gender (P=0.039), but not with the age or smoking history. More importantly, membranous staining of S100A16 was significantly correlated with a poorer overall survival of either stage I (P=0.0088) or stage II / III (P=0.0003) lung AC patients, and multivariate analysis confirmed that membranous expression of S100A16 was an independent adverse prognostic indicator (P=0.0001). Conclusions: The present results suggest that S100A16 protein is a novel prognostic marker for lung AC.
ALUMINUM BIAS SPUTTERING FOR FILM COVERAGE IMPROVEMENT
Kobayashi.Shigeru,Shimamura, Hideaki,Sakata, Masao,Fujita, Shouyou,Yajima, Akira,Saito, Hiroshi,Tateishi, Hideki,Sasaki, Shinji 대한전자공학회 1989 ICVC : International Conference on VLSI and CAD Vol.1 No.1
A filter was installed between the sputtering target and the substrate so as to reduce the aluminum deposition arriving with a shallow angle at the substrate in order to study the step coverage improvement by the bias application. It is deduced that the aluminum flowage occurs so that the surface energy is minimized around the via hole. Aluminum films deposited with the pulsed biasing were characterized in which the possible microstructual damage by argon bombardment is to be minimized. This biasing technique should provide with a better process for the step coverage improvement. A sputtering cathode was developed for aluminum bias sputtering which has a substrate current capability as high as 2A for a 5 inch wafer at the substrate voltage around-50V.

Vitis vinifera cv. Koshu is a traditional grape cultivar that has been grown for centuries in Japan. The Koshu grape has pink-colored skin and Koshu wines have slight astringency. We demonstrated for the first time the characterization of hydroxycinnamic acids, flavan-3-ols, and flavonoids in Koshu grape using high-performance liquid chromatography and liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry. The gross weight of phenolic compounds excluding anthocyanins and proanthocyanidins in Koshu grape at harvest was higher than those in Sauvignon Blanc, Chardonnay, and Merlot grapes. In addition, hydroxycinnamic acid and monomeric flavonol contents in Koshu grape were also higher than those in the other grape cultivars. Transcription analysis of cinnamic acid 4-hydroxylase, p-coumarate 3-hydroxylase, caffeate methyltransferase, and flavonol synthase genes indicated high accumulation of hydroxycinnamic acids and flavonols in Koshu grape skin compared with the other cultivars. These findings obtained by chemical and molecular approaches partially explained the phenolic characteristics and the peculiar astringency of Koshu grape.

The objective of the study involves developing a rehabilitation support robot for self-standing-up training of hemiplegic stroke patients to restore normal standing-up motion. Therapist-guided standing-up training is effective in improving the motor function of a patient’s paralyzed leg. The therapist controls a patient’s left/right load balance by pulling or pushing the patient’s waist during standing-up training. Hence, we investigated the relationship between the patient’s waist movement and the left/right load balance during guided standing-up motion. The analysis results revealed the ideal pattern of the load balance ratio during guided standing-up training. In addition, the results indicate that the patient’s waist movement corresponded to the ideal pattern of the load balance ratio. It is expected that this movement trajectory is useful in designing a controller of a rehabilitation support robot. In order to reproduce the therapist-guided standing-up training with a rehabilitation support robot, it is necessary to consider a control method that can be installed on the robot.

For the purpose of protecting the rights of Lentinula edodes breeders, we developed a new simple sequence repeat (SSR) marker set consisting only of genetically independent tetranucleotide or longer core motifs. Using available genome sequences for five L. edodes strains, we designed primers for 13 SSR markers that amplified polymorphic sequences in 20 L. edodes cultivars. We evaluated the independence of every possible marker pair based on genotype data. Consequently, eight genetically independent markers were selected. The polymorphic information content values of the markers ranged from 0.269 to 0.764, with an average of 0.409. The markers could distinguish among 20 L. edodes cultivars and produced highly repeatable and reproducible results. The markers developed in this study will enable the precise identification of L. edodes cultivars, and may be useful for protecting breeders’ rights.
