The Third Version of the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire

2019 Safety and health at work Vol.10 No.4

Introduction: A new third version of the Copenhagen Psychosocial Questionnaire (COPSOQ III) has been developed in response to trends in working life, theoretical concepts, and international experience. A key component of the COPSOQ III is a defined set of mandatory core items to be included in national short, middle, and long versions of the questionnaire. The aim of the present article is to present and test the reliability of the new international middle version of the COPSOQ III. Methods: The questionnaire was tested among 23,361 employees during 2016e2017 in Canada, Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, and Turkey. A total of 26 dimensions (measured through scales or single items) of the middle version and two from the long version were tested. Psychometric properties of the dimensions were assessed regarding reliability (Cronbach a), ceiling and floor effects (fractions with extreme answers), and distinctiveness (correlations with other dimensions). Results: Most international middle dimensions had satisfactory reliability in most countries, though some ceiling and floor effects were present. Dimensions with missing values were rare. Most dimensions had low to medium intercorrelations. Conclusions: The COPSOQ III offers reliable and distinct measures of a wide range of psychosocial dimensions of modern working life in different countries; although a few measures could be improved. Future testing should focus on validation of the COPSOQ items and dimensions using both qualitative and quantitative approaches. Such investigations would enhance the basis for recommendations using the COPSOQ III.

      • Magnetoelectric effect in simple collinear antiferromagnetic spinels

        Saha, Rana,Ghara, Somnath,Suard, Emmanuelle,Jang, Dong Hyun,Kim, Kee Hoon,Ter-Oganessian, N. V.,Sundaresan, A. American Physical Society 2016 Physical Review B Vol.94 No.1

We report the discovery of the linear magnetoelectric effect in a family of spinel oxides, Co3O4 and MnB2O4 (B = Al, Ga) with simple collinear antiferromagnetic spin structure. An external magnetic field induces a dielectric anomaly at T-N, accompanied by the generation of electric polarization that varies linearly with magnetic field. Magnetization and magnetoelectric measurements on a single crystal of MnGa2O4 together with a phenomenological theory suggest that the easy axis direction is [111] with the corresponding magnetic symmetry R (3) over bar 'm'. The proposed theoretical model of single-ion contribution of magnetic ions located in a noncentrosymmetric crystal environment stands for a generic mechanism for observing magnetoelectric effects in these and other similar materials.

      • An Open Label Non-inferiority Trial Assessing Vibriocidal Response of a Killed Bivalent Oral Cholera Vaccine Regimen following a Five Year Interval in Kolkata, India

        Kanungo, Suman,Desai, Sachin N.,Saha, Jayanta,Nandy, Ranjan Kumar,Sinha, Anuradha,Kim, Deok Ryun,Bannerjee, Barnali,Manna, Byomkesh,Yang, Jae Seung,Ali, Mohammad,Sur, Dipika,Wierzba, Thomas F. Public Library of Science 2015 PLoS neglected tropical diseases Vol.9 No.5

        <▼1>
Background

The bivalent killed oral cholera vaccine (OCV) provides 65% cumulative protection over five years. It remains unknown whether a boosting regimen can maintain protection in previously immunized populations. This study examines the immunogenicity and safety of an OCV regimen given five years following initial dosing.

Methodology/Principal Findings

An open label controlled trial was conducted in 426 healthy Indian participants previously enrolled in a large efficacy trial. To assess whether an OCV regimen given after five years can elicit an antibody response equal to that of a primary series, we compared vibriocidal antibody titers in previously immunized participants receiving a two dose booster regimen to participants receiving a primary two dose immunization series. Among participants receiving a two dose primary series of OCV (n = 186), 69% (95% CI 62%-76%) seroconverted. In the intervention arm (n = 184), 66% (95% CI 59%-73%) seroconverted following a two dose boosting schedule given five years following the initial series. Following a single boosting dose, 71% (95% CI 64%-77%) seroconverted. Children demonstrated 79% (95% CI 69%-86%) and 82% (95% CI 73%-88%) seroconversion after primary and boosting regimens, respectively.

Conclusions/Significance

Administration of an OCV boosting regimen elicits an immune response similar to those receiving a primary series in endemic areas. Though a single boosting dose induces a strong immune response, further investigations are needed to measure if these findings translate to clinical protection.
</▼1><▼2>
Author Summary

The five year efficacy results of the bivalent, killed whole cell oral cholera vaccine (WC OCV) was shown to offer 65% protection in cholera endemic Kolkata. Further search strategies focused on natural boosting of immunity, since this trial assessed protection in a population that has endemic cholera at high rates every year. The efficacy demonstrated in this project reflected both vaccine and naturally induced immunity. Though efficacy is maintained for five years, no formal recommendations on a boosting regimen exist. This study suggests that a boosting regimen of killed OCV can elicit vibriocidal titers similar to those levels produced by a primary series in adults and children residing in endemic areas. A boosting recommendation could help to ease logistical challenges faced in maintaining protection in cholera endemic areas. These immunogenicity findings provide initial evidence to support the use of an OCV boosting regimen five years following the primary series, with consideration of a shorter interval for children under the age of 5 years due to a lower observed efficacy in field trials.
</▼2>

Characterization and expression profiling of MYB transcription factors against stresses and during male organ development in Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis)

        Saha, G.,Park, J.I.,Ahmed, N.U.,Kayum, M.A.,Kang, K.K.,Nou, I.S. Elsevier Science B.V., Amsterdam. 2016 Plant Physiology and Biochemistry Vol. No.

MYB proteins comprise a large family of plant transcription factors that play regulatory roles in different biological processes such as plant development, metabolism, and defense responses. To gain insight into this gene superfamily and to elucidate its roles in stress resistance, we performed a comprehensive genome-wide identification, characterization, and expression analysis of MYB genes in Chinese cabbage (Brassica rapa ssp. pekinensis). We identified 475 Chinese cabbage MYB genes, among which most were from R2R3-MYB (256 genes) and MYB-related (202) subfamilies. Analysis of sequence characteristics, phylogenetic classification, and protein motif structures confirmed the existence of several categories (1R, 2R, 3R, 4R, and 5R) of Chinese cabbage MYB genes, which is comparable with MYB genes of other crops. An extensive in silica functional analysis, based on established functional properties of MYB genes from different crop species, revealed 11 and four functional clades within the Chinese cabbage R2R3-MYB and MYB-related subfamilies, respectively. In this study, we reported a MYB-like group within the MYB-related subfamily contains 77 MYB genes. Expression analysis using low temperature-treated whole-genome microarray data revealed variable transcript abundance of 1R/2R/3R/4R/5R-MYB genes in 11 clusters between two inbred lines of Chinese cabbage, Chiifu and Kenshin, which differ in cold tolerance. In further validation tests, we used qRT-PCR to examine the cold-responsive expression patterns of 27 BrMYB genes; surprisingly, the MYB-related genes were induced more highly than the R2R3-MYB genes. In addition, we identified 10 genes with corresponsive expression patterns from a set of salt-, drought-, ABA-, JA-, and SA-induced R2R3-MYB genes. We identified 11 R2R3-1VIYBs functioning in resistance against biotic stress, including 10 against Fusarium oxysporum f.sp. conglutinans and one against Pectobacterium carotovoram subsp. caratovorum. Furthermore, based on organ-specific expression data, we identified nine R2R3-MYBs that were constitutively expressed in male reproductive tissue, which may provide an important key for studying male sterility in Chinese cabbage. The extensive annotation and transcriptome profiling reported in this study will be useful for understanding the involvement of MYB genes in stress resistance in addition to their growth regulatory functions, ultimately providing the basis for functional characterization and exploitation of the candidate MYB genes for genetic engineering of Chinese cabbage. Effect of Mg doping on the electrical properties of SnO2 nanoparticles

        N. Mazumder,A. Bharati,S. Saha,D. Sen,K.K. Chattopadhyay 한국물리학회 2012 Current Applied Physics Vol.12 No.3

Sol-gel derived Mg doped tin oxide (Sn1-xMgxO2) nanocrystals were synthesized with x ranging between 0.5 and 7 at. %. Characteristic single phase tetragonal structure of pure and doped samples was obtained and doping saturation was inferred by X-ray diffraction analysis. Structural, morphological and phase informations were obtained by high resolution transmission electron microscope, field emission scanning electron microscope and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy respectively whereas bonding information was obtained from Fourier transformed infrared spectroscopy. Measurement of different electrical parameters with frequency (200 Hze105 Hz) has been carried out at room temperature. Ultrahigh dielectric constant and metallic AC conductivity were observed for undoped tin oxide and the profiles reflected highly sensitive changes in the atomic and interfacial polarizability generated by doping concentrations. Relaxation spectra of tangent loss of any sample did not show any loss peak within the frequency range. Both the grain and grain boundary contributions are observed to increase as the doping concentration increased. Results of first principle calculation based on density functional theory indicated effective Fermi level (EF) suppression due to Mg doping which is responsible for the experimentally observed conductivity variation. AC conductivity was found to depend strongly on the doping concentration and the defect chemistry of the compound. Mg doped SnO2 may find applications as a low loss dielectric and high density energy storage material. Reproductive Performance of Breeds and Hybrid of Silkworm, Bombyx mori L. with Special Reference to Egg Laying Rhythmicity

Saha, Atul Kumar,Kumar, N. Suresh,Chakrbarty, Satadal,Patnaik, Bharat Bhusan,Nayak, Sandeepta Kumar,Roy, Subrata,Bindroo, Bharat Bhushan Korean Society of Sericultural Science 2013 International Journal of Industrial Entomology Vol.26 No.1

The reproductive performance of multivoltine breed 'Nistari' and bivoltine breeds as NB18, P5 and a bivoltine hybrid (NB18 ${\times}$ P5) of B. mori were studied in different seasons in terms of total number of eggs laid, unlaid and hatching efficiency of the laid eggs to critically assess the breeds / hybrid potentiality. The bivoltine hybrid showed better performance in all the seasons as compared to the breeds investigated, as expected due to possibility of hybrid vigour. Among the breeds, bivoltine P5 had a better egg laid performance in S1 (February - March), S2 (May - June) and S3 (September - October) seasons but with an increase in the number of unlaid eggs. The hatching percentage, although didn't show any definitive trend, still suggested a marginal better performance in the hybrid. Most importantly, egg laying rhythmicity was studied by mating the female moth at 6.00 a.m. for $3{\frac{1}{2}}$ hours, and subsequently allowing the laying of eggs both under BOD condition ($25{\pm}1^{\circ}C$ and $85{\pm}5%$ RH) and at ambient temperature ($23-28^{\circ}C$ and $74.7{\pm}5%$) separately. Maximum (90%) egg laid occurred from 3.30 to 7.30 pm (i.e. 4 - 6 h after decoupling). Similar laying patterns were observed when females where mated at 12 noon and decoupled at 3.30 pm, revealing that late photoperiod and early scotoperiod were favourable for egg laying in case of multivoltine breed and bivoltine prefers late photoperiod for egg laying.

      • Biochemical Attributes of Mature Female Gonads of Different Strains and Hybrid of Mulberry Silkmoth, Bombyx mori L.(Lepidoptera : Bombycidae)

        Saha, A. K.,Chaudhuri, A.,Krishnan, N.,Sengupta, A. K.,Shamsuddin, M.,Sen, S. K.,Saratchandra, B. 한국잠사학회 1998 한국잠사곤충학회지 Vol.40 No.1

One indigenous polyvoltine strain (Nistari) and two bivoltine strains viz. P5, and NB18, along with one bivoltine hybrid (P5 X NB18) were subjected for studies on the differences on some physiologically important biomolecules like protein, nucleic acids and cholesterol. Ovarian protein and RNA content remained significantly high in the bivoltine races and their hybrid over multivoltine breed, while, DNA and cholesterol content remained significantly low in all the breeds and the hybrid as compared to Nistari strain. However, the ovarian weight was higher in both the bivoltine breeds and their hybrid than that of Nistnri. Higher ovarian weight together with more protein and RNA concentrations reflect the preparatory phase for production of diapausing eggs by the bivoltines. This is indicated by the production of more number of eggs by the bivoltine silkmoths and their hybrid. The variations in biochemical parameters studied herein, thus establish a distinct difference in the overt reproductive physioiogy between multivoltine and bivoltine silkworms.

      • Molecular characterization of BZR transcription factor family and abiotic stress induced expression profiling in Brassica rapa

        Saha, G.,Park, J.I.,Jung, H.J.,Ahmed, N.U.,Kayum, Md.A.,Kang, J.G.,Nou, I.S. Gauthier-Villars ; Elsevier Science Ltd 2015 Vol. No.

BRASSINAZOLE-RESISTANT (BZR) transcription factors (TFs) are primarily well known as positive regulators of Brassinosteroid (BR) signal transduction in different plants. BR is a plant specific steroid hormone, which has multiple stress resistance functions besides various growth regulatory roles. Being an important regulator of the BR synthesis, BZR TFs might have stress resistance related activities. However, no stress resistance related functional study of BZR TFs has been reported in any crop plants so far. Therefore, this study identified 15 BZR TFs of Brassica rapa (BrBZR) from a genome-wide survey and characterized them through sequence analysis and expression profiling against several abiotic stresses. Various systematic in silico analysis of these TFs validated the fundamental properties of BZRs, where a high degree of similarity also observed with recognized BZRs of other plant species from the comparison studies. In the organ specific expression analyses, 6 BrBZR TFs constitutively expressed in flower developmental stages indicating their flower specific functions. Subsequently, from the stress resistance related expression profiles differential transcript abundance levels were observed by 6 and 11 BrBZRs against salt and drought stresses, respectively. All BrBZRs showed several folds up-regulation against exogenous ABA treatment. All BrBZRs also showed differential expression against low temperature stress treatments and these TFs were proposed as transcriptional activators of CBF cold response pathway of B. rapa. Notably, three BrBZRs gave co-responsive expression against all the stresses tested here, suggesting their multiple stress resistance related functions. Thus, the findings would be helpful in resolving the complex regulatory mechanism of BZRs in stress resistance and further functional genomics study of these potential TFs in different Brassica crops.

      • A NEW ANALYTICAL MODEL AND SENSORLESS APPROACH FOR SWITCHED RELUCTANCE MOTORS

        S.Saha,T.Kosa.ka,N.Matsui,Y.Takeda 전력전자학회 1998 ICPE(ISPE)논문집 Vol.- No.-

In this paper a new analytical model for the non-linear flux-linkage/ current characteristics of the switched reluctance motors at different rotor positions is proposed. The model has been successfully verified by the simulation and the experimental results of the instantaneous current waveforms and the average torque values in both single pulse and multiple pulse operation of the motor The uniqueness of the model lies in its defining a simple algorithm for determining the rotor position ($). Hence, sen-sorless operation of the motor can be easily implemented with the aid of this model.
