An Investigation of Two Buddhist Tomb-Inscriptions from 12th Century Koryŏ
Henrik H. Sørensen 동국대학교 불교학술원 2009 International Journal of Buddhist Thought & Cultur Vol.12 No.-
This paper is an investigation into the epitaphs for the tombs of two Korean Buddhist monk-officials from 12th century Koryŏ. Both epitaphs are written in the format of tomb-contracts according to which the dead person “owns” the plot of land on which the tomb is located so as not to have one’s final resting place disturbed after burial. These after-life contracts reflect an ancient Chinese practice that can be traced back to the Han dynasty. The Koryŏ examples follow the traditional Chinese format for such contracts.
Worshipping the Cosmos:Tejaprabha Rituals under the Koryŏ
Henrik H. Sørensen 동국대학교 불교학술원 2010 International Journal of Buddhist Thought & Cultur Vol.15 No.-
The present essay is devoted to a discussion of a particular type of Esoteric Buddhist ritual which focused on the worship of the cosmic Buddha Tejaprabha (Ch’isŏnggwang pul 熾盛光佛), the Lord of the Constellations, namely the Sojae toryang 消災道場 (Ritual for Averting Calamities). First there will be an introduction to the relationship between astrology and Buddhism under the Koryŏ followed by a discussion of the rituals for averting calamities and the cult of Tejaprabha, and finally the Sŏngbyŏn sojae so 星變消災 (Panegyric for Averting Calamities [caused by] the Planetary Transformations) written for a Tejapranha ritual will be presented (including a fully annotated translation of the text).
Product Market Integration and Wage Formation
Andersen, Torben M.,Sørensen, Jan Rose 세종대학교 국제경제연구소 2000 Journal of Economic Integration Vol.15 No.2
This paper analysis the basic labour market inter-dependencies among countries with intra-industrial trade and imperfectly competitive product and labour markets. The paper stresses two major channel through which increased integration may affect product markets and therefore in turn labour markets. First, market entry becomes easier and/or less costly implying that more goods become traded goods. Second, market integration among economies already open to trade may reduce the explicit or implicit trade costs of selling in foreign markets. It is found that the two channels have different implications for wage formation.
SONG, HO KEUN,SØRENSEN, AAGE B. Seoul National University 1990 Korea Journal of Population and Development Vol.19 No.1
The purpose of this paper is to analyze the effects of economic differentiation on worker earnings in Korea. We argue that the export-promotion policies of the state have substantially reduced segmentation of labor markets. The export promotion strategy functions to counteract industry and size effects on worker earnings and flattens wage differentials between the core and the periphery economic sectors. This result reflects the state’s objective of removing the impact of institutional non-market forces on the process of earnings determination and preserving the market-pricing mechanism in labor markets. This does not mean that all forms of segmentation have been eliminated. The export promotion policy has led to a new structural inequality based on the division of the economy into a sector oriented toward production for export and a sector oriented toward production for domestic consumption. This is an inevitable outcome of an export-promotion policy designed to maximize labor productivity.
Applied mediation analyses : a review and tutorial
Theis Lange,Kim Wadt Hansen,Rikke Sørensen,Søren Galatius 한국역학회 2017 Epidemiology and Health Vol.39 No.-
In recent years, mediation analysis has emerged as a powerful tool to disentangle causal pathways from an exposure/treatment to clinically relevant outcomes. Mediation analysis has been applied in scientific fields as diverse as labour market relations and randomized clinical trials of heart disease treatments. In parallel to these applications, the underlying mathematical theory and computer tools have been refined. This combined review and tutorial will introduce the reader to modern mediation analysis including: the mathematical framework; required assumptions; and software implementation in the R package medflex. All results are illustrated using a recent study on the causal pathways stemming from the early invasive treatment of acute coronary syndrome, for which the rich Danish population registers allow us to follow patients’ medication use and more after being discharged from hospital.
