Residential Mobility Over the Family Life Cycle-A Second Phase Study
Tricia Ronda 한국노인복지학회 2014 International Journal of Welfare for the Aged Vol.31 No.-
There are many issues for considering residential changes in old life. Let us draw an example. A mountain area county is a major league city-the business, cultural, sports and technical base of a four-county metropolitan market of 1.5 million people. It is an affordable, comfortable place to live, do business and raise a family, big enough to be exciting and uncongested enough to get around in easily. It is safe, friendly and clean. In addition, its county’s many neighborhoods have much charm, and its beautiful parks are world-famous. Its lakefront downtown is busy, noted for its Old World charm and modern buildings. Residential changes will bring a life into the old home, and a sense of coming into the old life. Coming home from an extended period abroad can cause a confusing mixture of feelings, both positive and negative. You probably remember hearing about culture shock at your pre-departure orientation. Most of you probably also remember experiencing it, to one degree or another, while you were abroad. What you may not have been prepared for is the re-entry shock of coming home. Just as with culture shock, re-entry shock encompasses a wide range of feelings and responses, from mild frustration or fatigue to feelings of alienation and depression.

This work describes the medium optimization of γ-Linolenic acid (GLA) production by Spirulina platensisusing one-factor and orthogonal array design methods. In the one-factor experiments, NaHCO3 (9 mg L−1), NaNO3(13.5 mg L−1) and MgSO4·7H2O (11.85 mg L−1) proved to be the best components for GLA production. The optimalpH for GLA production by the alga was 9.2. Based on the delta values, NaHCO3 showed the greatest effect on the GLAproduction of the various factors tested, followed in decreasing order by MgSO4·7H2O, NaNO3 and K2SO4. The max-imum GLA yield obtained was 19.2 mgL−1in the presence of optimum concentrations of NaHCO3 (20 g L−1), NaNO3(3 g L−1), MgSO4·7H2O (0.5 g L−1) and K2SO4 (1.5 g L−1). Because of the slow growth rate of the algae, the practiceof robust orthogonal array methods during the optimization of medium components can result in the production of anoptimal biomass and a higher GLA yield for nutraceutical applications.
CO2 fixation and lipid production by microalgal species
Srinivasa Reddy Ronda,Pavani Parupudi,Chandrika Kethineni,Pradip Babanrao Dhamole,Sandeep Vemula,Prasada Rao Allu,Mahendran Botlagunta,Sujana Kokilagadda 한국화학공학회 2016 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.33 No.2
Microalgal species Nannochloropsis limnetica, Botryococcus braunii, and Stichococcus bacillaris were compared for their ability to grow, remove CO2, and accumulate lipids in their biomass under CO2-enriched atmosphere. Overall, N. limnetica outperformed the other two cultures and distinctly exhibited higher specific growth rate (0.999 d−1) and CO2 fixation rate (0.129 gL−1 d−1) with a high specific lipid yield (40% w/w). The volumetric CO2 fixation rate for all three species was validated with biomass productivity and mass transfer methods (P<0.005 and R2=0. 98). At 10% CO2, N. limnetica showed one-and-a-half times more carbon fixation efficiency over B. braunii, and S. bacillaris. On the other hand, total fatty acids of N. limnetica dispalyed an apparent increase in oleic acid. Whereas, under similar conditions, N. limnetica exhibited reduced eicosapentaenoic acid. These findings suggest that at high CO2 conditions, N. limnetica proved to be an efficient CO2 capture algal system and can be considered for biofuel applications.
Diatom Allantoin Synthase Provides Structural Insights into Natural Fusion Protein Therapeutics
Oh, Juntaek,Liuzzi, Anastasia,Ronda, Luca,Marchetti, Marialaura,Corsini, Romina,Folli, Claudia,Bettati, Stefano,Rhee, Sangkee,Percudani, Riccardo American Chemical Society 2018 ACS CHEMICAL BIOLOGY Vol.13 No.8
<P>Humans have lost the ability to convert urate into the more soluble allantoin with the evolutionary inactivation of three enzymes of the uricolytic pathway. Restoration of this function through enzyme replacement therapy can treat severe hyperuricemia and Lesch-Nyhan disease. Through a genomic exploration of natural gene fusions, we found that plants and diatoms independently evolved a fusion protein (allantoin synthase) complementing two human pseudogenes. The 1.85-Å-resolution crystal structure of allantoin synthase from the diatom <I>Phaeodactylum tricornutum</I> provides a rationale for the domain combinations observed in the metabolic pathway, suggesting that quaternary structure is key to the evolutionary success of protein domain fusions. Polyethylene glycol (PEG) conjugation experiments indicate that a PEG-modified form of the natural fusion protein provides advantages over separate enzymes in terms of activity maintenance and manufacturing of the bioconjugate. These results suggest that the combination of different activities in a single molecular unit can simplify the production and chemical modification of recombinant proteins for multifunctional enzyme therapy.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>

Sensitivity and optimisation procedures for truss structures under large displacement
Bothma, A.S.,Ronda, J.,Kleiber, M. Techno-Press 1999 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.7 No.1
The work presented here focuses on the development of suitable discretised formulations, for large-displacement shape and non-shape design sensitivity analysis (DSA), which enable the straightforward incorporation of structural optimisation into established finite element analysis (FEA) codes. For the generalised displacement-based functional the design sensitivity vector has been expressed in terms of displacement sensitivity. The Total Lagrangian formulation is utilised for modelling of large deformation of truss structures. The variational formulation of the sensitivity analysis procedure is discretised by using "pseudo" - finite elements, Results are presented for the sensitivity analysis and optimisation of standard truss structures. For the purposes of this work, the analysis and optimisation procedures outlined below are incorporated into the FEA code ABAQUS.

Development and usability testing of an operating manual for a hair-braiding machine
You, Heecheon,Young, Ronda,Lee, Myun W. Wiley Subscription Services, Inc., A Wiley Company 2008 Human factors and ergonomics in manufacturing Vol.18 No.1
<P>The present study applied the concepts and techniques of usability testing to the development of an operating manual for a hair-braiding machine. A preliminary version of the manual was developed in four stages: (1) profiling user characteristics, (2) defining design features of the manual, (3) preparing contents, and (4) designing the format and layout of the manual. In each development stage, design factors, such as user characteristics and operating instructions, were identified and relevant methods, such as user profile analysis and hierarchical task analysis, were applied. The preliminary manual was evaluated by 5 cosmetology students (age, 18 to 25 years; training, 60 to 700 hours) by using various performance and preference measures and surveying opinions of the participants regarding likes, dislikes, and suggestions. Based on the test results, recommendations were made for better usability of the manual and revisions were made accordingly. The design and evaluation process of an operating manual presented in the study would help practitioners to develop a user-friendly manual. © 2007 Wiley Periodicals, Inc.</P>
