Learning to be consumers of “smart” retail channels: The baby boomer experience

        Robichaud Zachary,Yu Hong 한국마케팅과학회 2023 마케팅과학연구 Vol.33 No.4

A global shift in aging populations points to greying consumers as an important market for retailers and an underserved segment for researchers. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated digital expansion in the marketplace, innovated new industries, and encouraged new participants. This acceleration provides significant implications for the greying population whereby the adoption of smart-enabled platforms and channels becomes essential. Most of the digital and smart-consumer socialization research has focused exclusively on younger generations because of their digital nativity. This study aims to expand our understanding of baby boomer consumers’ attitudes and behaviors in the smart retail context using a consumer socialization framework. Findings suggest that perceived usefulness, ease of use, reliability, and fun were significant influences on global attitudes toward shopping in smart retail channels. Global attitudes toward shopping in smart retail channels significantly influenced behavioral intention and digital mass media exposure significantly influenced all dimensions of attitudes toward shopping in smart retail channels suggesting interest and engagement in smart retail channel participation among older adults.

LABOUR MARKET BARRIERS FOR INTERNATIONALLY TRAINED IMMIGRANTS IN NORTHERN ONTARIO

        Robichaud Yves,Albert Sylvie,Haq Rana,Takouda Pawoumodom Mathhias 한국캐나다학회 2022 Asia-Pacific Journal of Canadian Studies (APJCS) Vol.28 No.1

This paper investigates the experiences and barriers faced by internationally trained immigrants (ITIs) in achieving their economic and labour market integration goals in Northern Ontario (NO). Seventy-four face-to-face interviews were conducted with 74 ITIs, immigrated to Canada within 10 years and living in a NO community for a minimum of 6 months. Participants reported greater credential devaluation in NO and higher emphasis by employers on Canadian experience. Participants had inflated expectations of their economic and social integration, fuelled by current immigration strategies, but lacked the necessary support systems within NO communities. Findings have policy relevance at the federal, provincial, and community levels extendible to other remote communities across Canada.

New One Step Self-assembly Strategy of Large-Area Highly Ordered, Crack-Free 2D Inverse Opal Films of Transition Metal Oxides and Its Application to Fabrication of Bilayer Inverse Opal Films

        Hua Li,Jian-feng Wang,Jacques Robichaud,Yahia Djaoued 한국고분자학회 2019 Macromolecular Research Vol.27 No.12

A new one step method for self-assembly of sacrificial polystyrene (PS) spheres colloidal crystal with a transition metal oxide (TMO) precursor matrix material is developed to fabricate highly ordered, crack-free two-dimensional (2D) TiO2 and 2D WO3 inverse opal (IO) films over a centimeter scale. Opal composite monolayer PS/WO3 and PS/TiO2 films have been successfully generated via simultaneous assembly of polymeric colloidal spheres floating on aqueous TiO2 and WO3 precursor solutions, thereby avoiding the infiltration step of the TMO precursor solution into a preassembled opal template. Large-area crack-free 2D WO3 and 2D TiO2 IO films were subsequently obtained after the removal of the PS opal template by chemical method. Such new strategy avoids the need for liquid infiltration into a preassembled PS opal template and minimizes the associated large cracks and inhomogeneity that often occur during the fabrication of IO films. The obtained PS/WO3 and PS/TiO2 opal composite monolayer films were also used as building blocks for the fabrication of highly ordered bilayer (3D) IO films with homoand hetero-structure via a bottom-up, layer by layer route, through repeated operations of this new one step self-assembly method. Hence, four types of bilayer IO films were synthesized: homo-structural TiO2 and WO3, hetero-structural TiO2 (bottom layer)/WO3 (top layer) and WO3 (bottom layer)/TiO2 (top layer). The underlying mechanism of multilayer assembly that may account for the formation of large area crack-free multilayer films, is discussed. The electrochromic behavior of these 2D and 3D IO samples was investigated.

Cerebrovascular Events in Older Patients With Patent Foramen Ovale: Current Status and Future Perspectives

        Farjat-Pasos Julio I.,Chamorro Angel,Lanthier Sylvain,Robichaud Mathieu,Mengi Siddhartha,Houde Christine,Rodés-Cabau Josep 대한뇌졸중학회 2023 Journal of stroke Vol.25 No.3

Patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure, along with medical therapy, has emerged as the therapeutic gold standard in younger (<60-year-old) patients with a PFO-related stroke for preventing recurrent events. However, PFO management guidelines lack definite recommendations for older (>60 years) patients with a PFO-related cerebrovascular event, a complex group of patients who were mostly excluded from PFO closure clinical trials. Nevertheless, several studies have shown a higher prevalence of PFO among older patients with cryptogenic stroke, and its presence has been associated with an increased risk of recurrent events. Furthermore, older patients exhibit a higher prevalence of high-risk PFO anatomical features, present inherent age-related risk factors that might increase the risk of paradoxical embolism through a PFO, and have a higher incidence of ischemic events after a PFO-related event. Additionally, observational studies have shown the safety and preliminary efficacy of PFO closure in older PFO-related stroke patients. Yet, higher rates of recurrent cerebrovascular events and new-onset atrial fibrillation were observed in some studies among older patients compared to their younger counterparts. After careful case-by-case evaluation, including the assessment of hidden potential cardioembolic sources of a cryptogenic stroke other than PFO, transcatheter PFO closure might be a safe and effective therapeutic option for preventing recurrent thromboembolic events in patients >60 years with a high-risk PFO-associated stroke. Ongoing trials will provide important insights into the role of PFO closure in the elderly population.
