Initiating Events Study of the First Extraction Cycle Process in a Model Reprocessing Plant
Wang, Renze,Zhang, Jiangang,Zhuang, Dajie,Feng, Zongyang The Korean Association for Radiation Protection 2016 방사선방어학회지 Vol.41 No.2
Background: Definition and grouping of initiating events (IEs) are important basics for probabilistic safety assessment (PSA). An IE in a spent fuel reprocessing plant (SFRP) is an event that probably leads to the release of dangerous material to jeopardize workers, public and environment. The main difference between SFRPs and nuclear power plants (NPPs) is that hazard materials spread diffusely in a SFRP and radioactive material is just one kind of hazard material. Materials and Methods: Since the research on IEs for NPPs is in-depth around the world, there are several general methods to identify IEs: reference of lists in existence, review of experience feedback, qualitative analysis method, and deductive analysis method. While failure mode and effect analysis (FMEA) is an important qualitative analysis method, master logic diagram (MLD) method is the deductive analysis method. IE identification in SFRPs should be consulted with the experience of NPPs, however the differences between SFRPs and NPPs should be considered seriously. Results and Discussion: The plutonium uranium reduction extraction (Purex) process is adopted by the technics in a model reprocessing plant. The first extraction cycle (FEC) is the pivotal process in the Purex process. Whether the FEC can function safely and steadily would directly influence the production process of the whole plant-production quality. Important facilities of the FEC are installed in the equipment cells (ECs). In this work, IEs in the FEC process were identified and categorized by FMEA and MLD two methods, based on the fact that ECs are containments in the plant. Conclusion: The results show that only two ECs in the FEC do not need to be concerned particularly with safety problems, and criticality, fire and red oil explosion are IEs which should be emphatically analyzed. The results are accordant with the references.
Measurements and Assessments on Shielding Performance of FCTC10 60Co Transport Container
Zhuang, Dajie,Zhang, Guoqing,Li, Guoqiang,Wang, Renze The Korean Association for Radiation Protection 2016 방사선방어학회지 Vol.41 No.3
Background: FCTC10 container is designed to transport $^{60}Co$ radioactive sources used in irradiation industry. It belongs to Type B(U) Category III (yellow) package when being loaded with a $^{60}Co$ source of $1.8{\times}10^5$ Ci. Materials and Methods: The container is constituted of shielding container, basket, protective cover and bracket. Shielding ability is provided mainly by stainless steel shells, tungsten alloy and lead among steel shells. Radiation level around the container has been calculated with both Monte Carlo simulations and measurements. Results and Discussion: It is proven that the shielding performance of the container fulfills the requirements in GB11806-2004 (Regulations for the safe transport of radioactive material, China Standard Press). Exposure doses to workers and to critical groups of public were calculated based on hypothetical exposure scene according to transport practice experience. Conclusion: The results show that doses to workers and public are less than the constraint dose considered in design, and the radiation level would be increased less than a factor of 2 under design basis accidents.

Background/Objectives: Natural light is an essential strategy to reduce energy consumption. Methods/Statistical analysis: New living experiences acquire integration of technology in every aspect of life, and it seeks to help in saving energy which leads to a higher quality of life. Maximizing the use of natural light can reduce power consumption by up to 60% [1]. Findings: This study aims to propose a novel solution for smart rooms to conserve energy in the buildings by integrating the daylight with a curtain and light appliances MPU controller. The system integrates with a servo motor and LDR that control the window curtain to maximize the use of daylight. According to the change of sunshine intensity, this smart curtain controller system designed by adopting the photosensitive element and light-dependent resistor interfaced with Raspberry pi. Improvements/Applications: The proposed system can escalate the user in providing user-friendly operation and comfortable environment.
Management of Periprosthetic Joint Infection
( Cheng Li ),( Nora Renz ),( Andrej Trampuz ) 대한고관절학회 2018 Hip and Pelvis Vol.30 No.3
Periprosthetic joint infection (PJI) is a serious complication after arthroplasty, which is associated with pain, prolonged hospital stay, multiple surgeries, functional incapacitation, and even mortality. Using scientific and efficient management protocol including modern diagnosis and treatment of PJI and eradication of infection is possible in a high percentage of affected patients. In this article, we review the current knowledge in epidemiology, classification, pathogenesis, diagnosis and treatment of PJI.

A cattle exposure trial was carried out in an experimental cattle farm located in Galim near Ngaoundere. Observations were made from October–November 2016 and January 2017. Exposure commenced in the morning (8 h) and ended in the night (20h). The observed number of the different boophilic insect-groups was: Stomoxys (17,453), culicids (8925), Simulium (293), Chrysops (74) and Tabanus (34). Stomoxys (921.35) recorded the highest overall observed daily landing rate (ODLR) during the first survey-round (October–November 2016) and 740.85 during the second survey-round (January 2017) as compared to other hematophagous insect-groups observed. The preferred landing spots for most of the hematophagous insects were legs and belly regions, but Tabanus were also frequent around the head region. Brown colored cattle attracted Simulium, Chrysops, culicids and Stomoxys, but black animals were preferably attacked by tabanids. Cattle were mostly attacked in the overnight parks though there was no statistically significant difference (P˃0.05). Two observed daily landing peaks (8 h–10 h and 16 h–18 h) were noticed for all biting fly-groups and was influenced by weather variables. The most frequent physical defense actions against landing flies by cattle was tail flicking. Such actions differed with survey-period, micro-ecosystems and color coat of cattle. Diurnal physical defense mechanism rhythms of cattle showed that head shaking was mostly used between 10 h–12 h and 16 h–18 h, but tail flicking and foot stamping only occurred between 13 h–15 h. There was a strong positive and significant correlation (r = 0.243, P < .001) in defense reactions and fly counts.
Biotherapeutic Applications of Platelet-Rich Plasma in Regenerative Medicine
Pineda-Cortel Maria Ruth,Suarez Consuelo,Cabrera Jan-Tyrone,Daya Minerva,Bernardo-Bueno Mary Monica,Vergara Renz Cleve,Villavieja Adrian 한국조직공학과 재생의학회 2023 조직공학과 재생의학 Vol.20 No.6
BACKGROUND: Platelet-rich plasma (PRP), a blood-based product containing platelets and growth factors, is being utilized to treat numerous non-hemostatic disorders. Studies have explored the use of PRP to provide rapid repair, healing, and recovery from various injuries; some studies mentioned the effectiveness of PRP as compared with other forms of treatment like the use of hyaluronic acid. Commercially available PRP systems are available now, and each varies from one another depending on how it is prepared, thus causing variations in platelet concentration and growth factor content. These variations also implicated different therapeutic applications. METHODS: The paper reviews the various applications of PRP, including factors to consider before using PRP therapy, and provides an extensive list of PRP applications. RESULTS: The administration of PRP as a standalone treatment or as a co-therapy results in observed positive outcomes. However, there is a lack of standardization for PRP preparation, increasing the risks for heterogeneity and bias amongst results. CONCLUSION: The use of PRP is indeed an option for regenerative therapy, but more research is needed before it can fully be recommended as a primary treatment modality.
