Development of biolubricants from vegetable oils via chemical modification
Josiah McNutt,Quan (Sophia) He 한국공업화학회 2016 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.36 No.-
In response to the increasing environmental pollution concern and depleting petroleum reserves, biobasedlubricants have received a great deal of interest as a substitute for mineral oil-based lubricants. Biolubricants have a number of advantages over mineral lubricants, including the high biodegradability, low toxicity, excellent lubrication performance, and minimal impact on human health/environment. This paper reviewed the most recent advancements in the synthesis of biolubricants from vegetable oilsthrough chemical modification methods such as esterification/transesterification, estolide formation, and epoxidation of vegetable oils.
Spent coffee grounds: A review on current utilization
Josiah McNutt,Quan (Sophia) He 한국공업화학회 2019 Journal of Industrial and Engineering Chemistry Vol.71 No.-
Coffee, one of the world’s most popular beverages, carries with it a large economic and environmentalburden in the form of spent coffee grounds (SCG), the unutilized portion of the coffee bean left afterbrewing. However, while currently unrealized, this waste stream has the potential to be converted tovarious high-value bio-products. Potential uses for SCG range from energy, to nutraceuticals, andconstruction materials. This paper outlines the possible uses of SCG as a promising green source andreviews the most recent results from studies being done to valorize SCG.
