Occurrence of re-adsorption in desorption cycles of capacitive deionization

This research explored the occurrence of re-adsorption that may impose negative impact on electroderegeneration in capacitive deionization (CDI). Among the tested operational modes, polarity reversal wasfound to deliver faster salt desorption than a conventional short circuit and reduction of cell voltage to0.3 V. Earlier occurrence of re-adsorption was observed when the CDI system was operated under ahigher reversed discharge voltage. An optimized polarity reversal at 1.2 V followed by a short circuit isconsidered as a promising approach for efficient CDI operations for practical engineering use.
