A review on cholinesterase inhibitors for Alzheimer’s disease

Preet Anand,Baldev Singh 대한약학회 2013 Archives of Pharmacal Research Vol.36 No.4

Alzheimer’s disease (AD), a progressiveneurodegenerative disorder, is characterized by the deficitsin the cholinergic system and deposition of beta amyloid(Ab) in the form of neurofibrillary tangles and amyloidplaques. Since the cholinergic system plays an importantrole in the regulation of learning and memory processes, ithas been targetted for the design of anti-Alzheimer’s drugs. Cholinesterase inhibitors enhance cholinergic transmissiondirectly by inhibiting the enzyme acetylcholinesterase(AChE) which hydrolyses acetylcholine. Furthermore, ithas been also demonstrated that both acetylcholinesteraseand butrylcholinesterase (BuChE) play an important role inAb-aggregation during the early stages of senile plaqueformation. Therefore, AChE and BuChE inhibition havebeen documented as critical targets for the effectivemanagement of AD by an increase in the availability ofacetylcholine in the brain regions and decrease in the Abdeposition. This review discusses the different classes ofcholinesterase inhibitors including tacrine, donepezil, rivastigmine, galantamine, xanthostigmine, para-aminobenzoicacid, coumarin, flavonoid, and pyrrolo-isoxazoleanalogues developed for the treatment of AD.

Experimental Study of Domestic Refrigerator Performance Improvement with Evaporative Condenser

Kawal Preet Singh Khalsa,Sayan Sadhu 대한설비공학회 2021 International Journal Of Air-Conditioning and Refr Vol.29 No.2

Evaporation of defrosted water in household refrigerators and condenser waste heat utilization has been reported by many researchers but limited literature is available on the study of evaporative cooling in domestic refrigerators (condenser waste heat utilization for defrost water evaporation) with helical coil heat exchangers. This paper is concerned with evaluating domestic refrigerator performance by employing an evaporative helical coil heat exchanger before hot wall condenser which is utilized for evaporation of defrost water and reducing the superheated refrigerant temperature to condensing temperature to reduce the condenser load and improve the overall performance of a domestic refrigerator. Results show that evaporative cooling increases COP of the system by 25.3%, reduces the energy consumption of the refrigerator by 7.3% and the compressor run time by 10.6%. These experimental results also revealed that using two different thermal conductivity tube materials for evaporative helical coil condenser (Copper tube and Zinc coated steel tube) provided with less wall thickness (0.2mm) PVC coating results in good agreement for the same evaporation rate of defrosted water.

Studies on immunomodulatory effect of endophytic fungus Alternaria alternata on Spodoptera litura

        Harminder Preet Kaur,Bahaderjeet Singh,Abhinay Thakur,Amarjeet Kaur,Sanehdeep Kaur 한국응용곤충학회 2015 Journal of Asia-Pacific Entomology Vol.18 No.1

Secondary metabolites of entomopathogenic fungi have been known to suppress the immune response of various insects. Hence, we have investigated the effect of endophytic fungus, Alternaria alternata on cellular and humoral immune response of Spodoptera litura (Fabricius). Significant drop in total hemocyte count has been observed in the larvae fed on diet supplemented with ethyl acetate extract of A. alternata as compared to those fed on untreated or control diet devoid of ethyl acetate extract. Similarly differential hemocyte count of the larvae feeding on amended diet differed significantly from control. As compared to control significantly higher percentage of hemocytes exhibited abnormalities like aggregation, change in shape, extensive vacuolization and necrosis. The cytotoxic effect showed a dose dependent response which increased with time. A reduction in phenoloxidase and lysozyme activities was also observed. The data suggest that the secondary metabolites produced by A. alternata disabled several immunemechanisms of the insect. These studieswould help to identify the insect defenses that could be manipulated to accelerate host death due to fungal endophytes.

      • Non-invasive cancer detection using molecular device based on aromatic molecules

        Rupan Preet Kaur,Ravinder Singh Sawhney,Derick Engles,Milanpreet Kaur 한국통신학회 2016 ICT Express Vol.2 No.4

Major advances in the molecular diagnostics of screening tissue and blood samples have fueled the search for biomarkers and diagnostic nanosensors that can detect abnormalities early in their development cycles. In this paper, we propose an aromatic molecular junction-based biomarker that can trace the concentration of lead in any live sample. A nanomolecular device based on an anthracenedithiol molecule was modeled. Its electrical transport attributes were computed using a semi-empirical extended Huckel theory combined with non-equilibrium Green’s function formalism. We observed that the current and conductance assay had prominent changes when the molecular junction device was exposed to variant concentrations of lead. Based on our results, we propose aromatic molecular junction-based biomarkers that can detect even minor adulterations of lead when plied at operating voltage range.

Factors affecting long-term availability of medicinal plants in India

Singh Preet Amol,Dash Subhransu,Choudhury Abinash,Bajwa Neha 한국작물학회 2024 Journal of crop science and biotechnology Vol.27 No.2

The majority of conventional medications and food supplements are created following the processing of medicinal plants. As majority of the medicinal plants are collected from the forests, the rise in the demand for herbal goods is placing significant strain on the forests while encouraging unsustainable wild harvesting of therapeutic plants. The current study's objective is to gain insight into current debates on the value chain of medicinal or therapeutic plants, role of various Indian acts, i.e., Forest Act, Forests Right Act, export, and other variables affecting the sustainable supply of herbs. A targeted literature search on online databases, scientific studies, and authentic texts was performed to understand the value chain, consumption, export, Indian laws, endangered species, and capacity building institutions, limitations, and future of medicinal plants. The World Flora Online database was used to verify the scientific names of the plants. Value chains for medicinal plants are wide and complex. There is need to weaken the role of middlemen and giving forest gatherers and farmers more negotiating leverage especially through artificial intelligence. The Ministry of AYUSH and National Medicinal Plants Board both play significant roles in India's medicinal plant sector. The different acts and rules pertaining to medicinal plants conservation, usage, transit, and trade should work in harmony and there is need for exclusive medicinal plants policy across India. Maintaining a balance between the protection of medical plant species and a sustainable supply of herbs to support the sector based on medicinal plants while empowering forest gatherers is urgently needed

      • Performance Measure Modeling Of Routing Protocols In MANET

Anmol Preet Kaur,Nitika Chowdhary,Jyoteesh Malhotra 보안공학연구지원센터 2015 International Journal of Future Generation Communi Vol.8 No.6

Mobile ad-hoc networks (MANETs) are recently attracting a lot of interest due to their widely available wireless devices and low communication cost. MANET comprises a set of wireless communicating devices able to connect instantaneously without any pre-existing base station. Due to a limited transmission range of mobile devices, they need multi-hop routing for communication. In MANET nodes can change topology in an unpredictable manner so they need an efficient routing protocol which can handle the changing topology. However, MANET suffers from many challenges, including decentralization, low memory device, infrastructure less, bandwidth and limited battery reservoir. Different modes of the nodes like active-communication mode and non-active-communication mode consume available energy of a node. This paper presents an energy measurement model which shows the remaining energy level in each mobile node after some activity. The parameters required for designing energy measurement model consist of initialEnergy, txPower, rxPower, and idlePower. This paper also evaluates the performance measure metrics of two routing protocols such as Ad hoc On Demand Distance Vector (AODV) and Destination Sequenced Distance Vector (DSDV). This paper analyzes these routing protocols by simulation tested in network simulator (NS2). The performance will be studied based on Throughput, Packet loss, Routing delay, Cumulative sum of dropped packets, Calculate energy consumption and remaining energy at each node.
