      • Malignant Neoplasm Burden in Nepal - Data from the Seven Major Cancer Service Hospitals for 2012

Pun, Chin Bahadur,Pradhananga, Kishore K,Siwakoti, Bhola,Subedi, Krishna,Moore, Malcolm A Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2015 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.16 No.18

In Nepal, while no population based cancer registry program exists to assess the incidence, prevalence, morbidity and mortality of cancer, at the national level a number of hospital based cancer registries are cooperating to provide relevant data. Seven major cancer diagnosis and treatment hospitals are involved, including the BP Koirala Memorial Cancer hospital, supported by WHO-Nepal since 2003. The present retrospective analysis of cancer patients of all age groups was conducted to assess the frequencies of different types of cancer presenting from January 1st to December 31st 2012. A total of 7,212 cancer cases were registered, the mean age of the patients being 51.9 years. The most prevalent age group in males was 60-64 yrs (13.6%), while in females it was 50-54 yrs (12.8%). The commonest forms of cancer in males were bronchus and lung (17.6%) followed by stomach (7.3%), larynx (5.2%) and non Hodgkins lymphoma (4.5%). In females, cervix uteri (19.1%) and breast (16.3%), were the top ranking cancer sites followed by bronchus and lung (10.2%), ovary (6.1%) and stomach (3.8%). The present data provide an update of the cancer burden in Nepal and highlight the relatively young age of breast and cervical cancer patients.

Correlating the Quantity and Bid Cost of Unit Price Items for Public Road Projects

        Pramen P. Shrestha,Nipesh Pradhananga,Nirajan Mani 대한토목학회 2014 KSCE Journal of Civil Engineering Vol.18 No.6

In the United States, the majority of public road projects are constructed using the Design-Bid-Build (DBB) method. DBB projectsare procured by government agencies typically through the competitive bidding process. In DBB projects, the early estimates ofprobable cost of road projects is one of the major factors in making decision regarding which projects proceed to the bidding stage. The final cost of the project will be fixed based on the bid amount of the contractor. If the cost of the project can be estimated basedon the bid cost from the historical data, the estimated amount will be more accurate. This study attempted to determine the bid cost ofprojects by analyzing the bid data of 151 DBB road projects undertaken by the Clark County Department of Public Works insouthern Nevada from 1991 through 2008. The total value of construction was equivalent to $841 million when converted into a June2011 base cost. This study developed regression models to predict a future project’s bid cost of unit price items, based on thequantities of items. The validation of models also showed that these models predicted the unit bid cost accurately. These models willassist in assessing the effect of quantity in accurately estimating the cost of the unit price items and reduce variances that result inlarge discrepancies between engineers’ estimates and actual bid-award amounts.

      • Impact Variables of Dump Truck Cycle Time for Heavy Excavation Construction Projects

Song, Siyuan,Marks, Eric,Pradhananga, Nipesh Korea Institute of Construction Engineering and Ma 2017 Journal of construction engineering and project ma Vol.7 No.2

The cycle time of construction equipment for earthwork operations has a significant impact on project productivity. Elements that directly impact a haul vehicle's cycle time must be identified in order to accurately quantify the haul cycle time and implement strategies to decrease it. The objective of this research is to scientifically identify and quantify variables that have a significant impact on the cycle time of a dump truck used for earthwork. Real-time location data collected by GPS devices deployed in an active earthwork moving construction site was analyzed using statistical regression. External data including environmental components and haul road conditions were also collected periodically throughout the study duration. Several statistical analyses including a variance analysis and regression analysis were completed on the dump truck location data. Collected data was categorized by stage of the dump truck cycle. Results indicate that a dump truck's enter idle time, exit idle time, moving speed and driver visibility can significantly impact the dump truck cycle time. The contribution of this research is the identification and analysis of statistically significant correlations of variables within the cycle time.

      • Three-dimensional analysis of flexible pavement in Nepal under moving vehicular load

        Ban, Bijay,Shrestha, Jagat K.,Pradhananga, Rojee,Shrestha, Kshitij C. Techno-Press 2022 Advances in computational design Vol.7 No.4

This paper presents a three-dimensional flexible pavement simulated in ANSYS subjected to moving vehicular load on the surface of the pavement typical for the road section in Nepal. The adopted finite element (FE) model of pavement is validated with the classical theoretical formulations for half-space pavement. The validated model is further utilized to understand the damping and dynamic response of the pavement. Transient analysis of the developed FE model is done to understand the time varying response of the pavement under a moving vehicle. The material properties of pavement considered in the analysis is taken from typical road section used in Nepal. The response quantities of pavement with nonlinear viscoelastic asphalt layer are found significantly higher compared to the elastic pavement counterpart. The structural responses of the pavement decrease with increase in the vehicle speed due to less contact time between the tires of the vehicle and the road pavement.
