        Hot Deformation Characteristics and Processing Map Analysis of Pre-Forged AZ80 Magnesium Alloy

        The hot deformation behavior of pre-forged AZ80 magnesium alloy is investigated by the isothermal compression tests attemperatures of 523–683 K and strain rates of 0.0001–0.1 s−1, and analyzed by the processing maps for guiding isothermaldie forging. Flow localization and even cracking occurs at low temperatures and high strain rates, where shear deformationdegree shows a positive correlation with the ��( ̇�� ) value. Two stability regions with high efficiency is found out by theprocessing maps. At common stability region with high temperatures and low strain rates, peak power dissipation efficiencydoes not represent optimum deformation condition as reported in other materials. A Z parameter criterion is introduced forparameters optimization. javascript:void(0); a new stability domain of 523–590 K and 0.0001–0.01 s−1 is observed, which istypical for fine microstructure composed of equiaxed clean α-Mg grains and big particles both about 1 μm (573 K/0.01 s−1).Super plasticity is speculated to occur at that condition.

      • Hepatitis B Virus Gene C1653T Polymorphism Mutation and Hepatocellular Carcinoma Risk: an Updated Meta-analysis

        Although there have been many studies investigating possible associations between the C1653T mutation and risk of HCC, the results have been inconsistent. We conducted searches of the published literature in Pubmed and Embase databases up to January 2013. Seventeen studies with a total of 1,085 HCC cases and 1,365 healthy controls were retrieved. We found a significant association between the C1653T mutation and HCC risk (OR = 2.01, 95%CI= 1.49-2.70). In the subgroup analysis by ethnicity, a significant association was also found in Asians (OR = 2.07, 95%CI= 1.71-2.51). In subgroup analysis by HBV genotype, B and C were linked with development of HCC (B:OR = 2.21, 95%CI= 1.13-4.34; C:OR = 2.26, 95%CI= 1.61-3.16). However, no significant association was found between the C1653T mutation and HCC risk in HBeAg positive cases. In conclusion, this meta-analysis suggests that the C1653T mutation may be associated with susceptibility to HCC.

        Effects of Wind Generation Uncertainty and Volatility on Power System Small Signal Stability

        This paper discusses the impacts of large scale grid-connected wind farm equipped with permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG) on power system small signal stability (SSS) incorporating wind generation uncertainty and volatility. Firstly, a practical simplified PMSG model with rotor-flux-oriented control strategy applied is derived. In modeling PMSG generator side converter, the generator-voltage-oriented control strategy is utilized to implement the decoupled control of active and reactive power output. In modeling PMSG grid side converter, the grid-voltage-oriented control strategy is applied to realize the control of DC link voltage and the reactive power regulation. Based on the Weibull distribution of wind speed, the Monte Carlo simulation technique based is carried out on the IEEE 16-generator-68-bus test system as benchmark to study the impacts of wind generation uncertainty and volatility on small signal stability. Finally, some preliminary conclusions and comments are given.

        Research on Automatic Compensation Technology for Eccentricity of Grinding Wheel

        To ensure the installation precision of grinding wheel in precision grinding, the attitude of spindle axis must be adjusted to coincide with the geometric center of grinding wheel before the process. A special device that combined with piezoelectric actuators with threedegrees- of-freedom is designed. The corresponding method of automatic compensation technology for eccentricity of grinding wheel is developed. In order to calculate accurately eccentric angle and the eccentricity of the grinding wheel, high accuracy detection algorithm for eccentric signal of grinding wheel is given by the principle of rotary roundness error minimization firstly. Then a decomposition algorithm is proposed to decompose the eccentricity into three directions and the eccentricity can be eliminated by the coordinated control of the three piezoelectric actuators. Experimental results show that the average accuracy of the system is about 5.48 μm. Compared with the sine fitting algorithm, the algorithm presented for adjusting the eccentricity of grinding wheel in this paper is more stable and the accuracy is improved by about 78.2%, which shows that the proposed approach works successfully.

        Molecular cloning and characterization of novel human JNK2 (MAPK9) transcript variants that show different stimulation activities on AP-1

        The c-Jun NH2-terminal kinase (JNK) signaling pathway participates in many physiological functions. In the current study we reported the cloning and characterization of five novel JNK2 transcript variants, which were designated as JNK2 α3, JNK2 α4, JNK2 β3, JNK2 γ1 and JNK2 γ2, respectively. Among them, JNK2 α4 and JNK2 γ2 are potential non-coding RNA because they contain pre-mature stop codons. Both JNK2α3 and JNK2β3 contain an intact kinase domain, and both encode a protein product of 46 kDa, the same as those of JNK2α1 and JNK2β1. JNK2γ1 contains a disrupted kinase domain and it showed a disable function. When over-expressed in mammalian cells, JNK2α3 showed higher activity on AP-1 than that of JNK2β3 and JNK2γ1. Furthermore, JNK2α3 and JNK2β3 showed different levels of substrate phosphorylation, although they both could promote the proliferation of 293T cells. Our results further demonstrate that JNK2 isoforms preferentially target different substrates and may regulate the expression of various target genes. [BMB reports 2010; 43(11): 738-743]

        Human HS1BP3 induces cell apoptosis and activates AP-1

        In the present study, we characterized the function of HS1-binding protein 3 (HS1BP3), which is mutated in essential tremor and may be involved in lymphocyte activation. We found that HS1BP3 localized to the mitochondria and endoplasmic reticulum partially. Overexpression of HS1BP3 induced apoptosis in HEK293T and HeLa cell lines. When these cell lines were transfected with HS1BP3, they exhibited nuclear DNA condensation, externalization of phosphatidylserine (PS), and cleavage of poly ADP ribose polymerase (PARP). Furthermore, suppression of HS1BP3 or HS1 expression attenuates HS1BP3 induced apoptosis. In addition, HS1BP3 enhanced activator protein 1 (AP-1)-mediated transcription in a dose-dependent manner. Therefore, we conclude that HS1BP3 regulates apoptosis via HS1 and stimulates AP-1-mediated transcription. [BMB reports 2011; 44(6): 381-386]

        모션그래픽에 나타난 메타포 표현 - 솔바스와 카일쿠퍼의 영화 오프닝 타이틀을 중심으로 -

        연구배경 모션그래픽은 정보를 재설계하고 평면, 광고전파, 애니메이션, 영화 등 많은 분야에서 융합되어 활용되어 지고 있다. 특히 영상에 표현된 메타포는 정보 전달 수단이자 인지를 간소화하는 방법이다. 메타포 이론으로 영상을 분석하면 영화를 더 잘 해석하고 본질을 발굴해 규율을 탐구하는 데 도움이 된다. 연구방법 영화 오프닝타이틀의 대표적인 디자이너 솔바스(Saul Bass)와 카일 쿠퍼(Kyle Cooper)의 작품이 분석 대상이다. 방법은 영화 오프닝 타이틀의 구성요소와 모션그래픽의 조형요소로 구분하여 메타포의 유형별 특징을 근거로 메타포 언어와 이미지 분석을 통해 영화 오프닝의 시각적 이미지에 대한 메타포 표현을 분석한다. 연구결과 영화 오프닝 타이틀은 메타포를 활용하여 다소 무거운 주제와 답답한 배경을 결합하고 고도로 감정을 파고드는 표현으로 영화 속 은유적인 요소뿐만 아니라 내면의 열광적인 예술적 특성까지 드러내며 뛰어난 예술적 상상력과 표현력을 보여주었다. 결론 영화의 오프닝 타이틀은 모션그래픽의 표현으로 감각적 자극과 무한한 상상을 관객들에게 보여주었다. 또한 영화 오프닝 타이틀의 발전과 맥락을 맞추거나 보완하면서 음악, 문자, 메타포 등 디자인과 영화언어의 조합을 통해 보여주는 새로운 시각적 표현방식을 실감케 했다. 이에 본 연구는 모션그래픽의 발달에 대한 이론적 근거를 제공할 수 있고 미래 모션그래픽의 효율적인 발전 방향을 제시하고 궁극적으로 확장된 사고를 통하여 미래 정보 확산에 영향을 미칠 수 있는 연구가 되기를 기대한다. Background Motion graphics are being redesigned and used in many areas, including planar, advertising, animation, and film. Metaphor in particular expressed in images, is a means of information delivery and a method of simplifying recognition. Analyzing images with metaphor theory helps to better interpret movies and explore discipline by discovering the essence. Methods The works of leading designers Saul Bass and Kyle Cooper in the opening title of the films are always subjected to analysis. The method breaks down the components of the film opening title and the formative elements of motion graphics to analyze the metaphor representation of the film opening through the metaphor language and image analysis based on the type-specific characteristics of the metaphor. Result The opening title of the film combines a rather heavy theme with a stuffy background using metaphor, which reveals not only the metaphorical elements in the film but also the enthusiastic artistic characteristics, and shows the imagination and expression of this outstanding artistic. Conclusion The opening title of film is an expression of motion graphics, showing the audiences’ sensory stimulation and infinite imagination. It also shows a new way of visual expression through a combination of design and film language, such as music, text, and metaphor, while matching or complementing the development of the opening title. Therefore, this work provides a theoretical basis for the development of motion graphics. We hope to present efficient development directions for future motion graphics, and ultimately influence the future information diffusion through extended thinking.

        Investigation on the interactions of scutellarin and scutellarein with bovine serum albumin using spectroscopic and molecular docking techniques

        The binding abilities of scutellarin (Scu) andscutellarein (Scue) with bovine serum albumin (BSA) wereinvestigated using equilibrium dialysis, high performanceliquid chromatography, fluorescence spectroscopy, competitivesite marker and molecular docking. The resultsshowed that the average protein binding ratios of Scu andScue with BSA were (79.85 ± 1.83) and (85.49 ± 1.21) %respectively. Under simulated physiological conditions, thefluorescence data indicated that Scu and Scue bound withBSA through a static mechanism. The thermodynamicparameters indicated that the interactions of Scu-BSA andScue-BSA mainly occurred by van der Waals forces andhydrogen bonds and it was easier for Scue to bind withBSA than Scu, indicating that the glucuronic acid moleculein Scu decreased the binding affinity. Site competitivemarker experiments showed that the binding sites of Scuand Scue mainly located within the sub-domain IIA ofBSA. Furthermore, molecular docking studies indicatedthat one BSA could bind three Scue, while one BSA couldcarry only two Scu. All these results clearly indicated theinteractions of Scu and Scue with BSA, which will lay thefoundation for further research to determine the pharmacologyand pharmacodynamics of Scu and Scue for treatingischemic cerebrovascular disease.

        Broadband Absorption Enhancement in µc-Si:H Thin-Film Solar Cells Based on Silver Nanoparticle Arrays

        The thin-film solar cell structure with a broadband absorption enhancement is reported. We designed spherical silver (Ag) nanoparticle arrays on or embedded partially into indium tin oxide (ITO) layer of the hydrogenated microcrystalline silicon (µc-Si:H) thin-film solar cells. The geometrical parameters, such as nanoparticle radius (R), array period (P) and ITO layer thickness (d) are optimized by using the finite element method (FEM). The numerical results show that the key parameter that influences the integrated absorption is period/radius ratio (P/R) for Ag nanoparticle arrays. Embedding nanoparticle arrays partially into ITO layer with the appropriate thickness can improve broadband light-trapping. The optimized structure shows 50.1% enhancement in the integrated absorption compared to the reference cell when P = 500 nm, R = 100 nm and d = 70 nm. Furthermore, physical mechanisms of absorption enhancement in different wavelength range are discussed according to the electrical field amplitude distributions in the solar cells.
