      • Cigarette Smoking among Adolescents aged 13-15 in Viet Nam and Correlates of Current Cigarette Smoking: Results from GYTS 2014 Data

Le, Thi Huong,Nga, Thi Thu Vu,Nguyen, Ngoc Dung,Le, Thi Thanh Xuan,Kim, Bao Giang,Phan, Thi Hai,Doan, Thu Huyen,Luong, Ngoc Khue,Nguyen, Tuan Lam,Hoang, Van Minh,Pham, Thi Quynh Nga Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2016 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.17 No.no.sup1

The aim of this paper is to report the rate of current and ever cigarette smoking and explore correlates of current cigarette smoking among adolescents aged 13-15 in Viet Nam. This analysis was derived from GYTS survey, which comprised of 3,430 adolescents aged 13-15, conducted in 2014 in 13 cities and provinces of Viet Nam. We calculated the weighted rates of current and ever cigarette smoking and reported patterns of smoking behavior. We also performed logistic regression to explore correlates of current cigarette smoking behavior. The weighted rate of ever cigarette smoking was 9.5% (95% confidence interval (CI): 8.5 %-10.5%), in which the weighted rate among males (15.4%; 95% CI: 13.6%-17.0%) was higher than that among females (4.2%; 95% CI: 3.3%-5.1%). The weighted rate of current cigarette smoking was relatively low at 2.5% (95%CI: 2.0%-3.0%) with higher weighted rate among males (4.9%; 95% CI: 3.8%-5.9%) compared to the corresponding figure among females (0.2%; 95% CI: 0.0 %-0.5%). Current cigarette smoking was significantly higher among males than females, in students aged 15 versus 13 years old, and in students who had several or all close friends smoking and students with daily observation of smoking at school. For greater smoking reduction outcomes, we recommend that tobacco interventions for adolescents should consider targeting more male students at older ages, establish stricter adherence to school-based banning of cigarette smoking, engage both smoking and nonsmoking adolescents and empower adolescents to resist peer smoking influence as well as changing their norms or beliefs towards smoking benefits.

Predicting Financial Distress Distribution of Companies

Giang Huong VU(Giang Huong VU ),Chi Thi Kim NGUYEN(Chi Thi Kim NGUYEN ),Dang Van PHAM(Dang Van PHAM ),Diu Thi Phuong TRAN(Diu Thi Phuong TRAN ),Toan Duc VU(Toan Duc VU ) 한국유통과학회 2022 유통과학연구 Vol.20 No.10

Purpose: Predicting the financial distress distribution of an enterprise is important to warn enterprises about their future. Predicting the possibility of financial distress helps companies have action plans to avoid the possibility of bankruptcy. In this study, the author conducted a forecast of the financial distress distribution of enterprises. Research design, data and methodology: The forecasting method is based on Logit and Discriminant analysis models. The data was collected from companies listed on Vietnam Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2020. In which there are both companies suffer from financial distress and non-financial distress. Results: The forecast analysis results show that the Logistic model has better predictability than the Discriminant analysis model. At the same time, the results also indicate three main factors affecting the financial distress of enterprises at all three research stages: (1) Liquidity, (2) Interest payment, and (3) firm size. In addition, at each stage, the impact of factors on financial distress differs. Conclusions: From the results of this study, the author also made several recommendations to help companies better control company operations to avoid falling into financial distress. Adjustments to current assets, debt, and company expansion considerations are the most important factors for companies.

Distribution of Competitiveness and Foreign Direct Investment using Autoregressive Distributed Lag Model

PHAM Huong Thi Thu,PHAM Nga Thi 한국유통과학회 2022 유통과학연구 Vol.20 No.8

Purpose: Research on attracting foreign direct investment (FDI) plays an important role in helping provinces attract more FDI projects. However, with local competition, FDI enterprises also have to consider their investment. This study evaluates the provincial competitiveness to attract FDI in Thai Nguyen province, a province of Vietnam. In which provincial distribution of competitiveness is measured through nine indicators. Research design, data, and methodology: The study collects data (FDI and the provincial competitiveness index) from 2006 to 2020. The study uses Autoregressive Distributed Lag (ARDL) to text the impact of distribution of competitivenes on foreign direct investment. With time-series, the ARDL is suitable for data analysis. Results: The regression results indicate that the competition index of market entry and informal costs negatively impact attracting FDI into the province; The human resource training quality index has a positive effect on FDI. The results show that FDI enterprises pay much attention to business establishment procedures, hidden costs, and quality of human resources in the province. Conclusions: At the same time, in terms of practice, the results of this study, the authors also offer solutions to help improve the ability to attract FDI into Thai Nguyen province. The significant provincial competitiveness indicators should be taken into account for improvement first.

Place Brand Equity and Domestic Investors' Choice: A Case Study in Vietnam

PHAM, Huong Thi Thu,PHAM, Nga Thi Korea Distribution Science Association 2020 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.7 No.10

Selecting an investment location is one of the most crucial decisions of investors as it has a great influence on the operation and development of the business in the future. At the same time, the attraction of localities will bring advantages for socio-economic development for the localities invested. Investors are interested in localities that have the potential to invest. The study focused on analyzing and testing the influence of place brand equity on the choice of investment locations of domestic investors through a regression analysis using 425 survey samples of investors in Phu Tho province, one of the northern industrial zones in Vietnam. Research results showed that 56.5% of investment decisions depended on factors from place brands. In addition, in the decision-making process for choosing investment locations, brand awareness factor had the greatest impact on investor's decisions, followed by brand image and brand personality, and finally brand confidence had the smallest impact. Therefore, in the coming time, in order to retain and attract domestic investors to choose Phu Tho as an investment and business destination, it is necessary to increase the value of place brand equity and implement solutions to promote place brands to investors.

Macrophage activation by glycoprotein isolated from Dioscorea batatas

Pham Thi Thu Huong,Young Jin Jeon 한국독성학회 2011 Toxicological Research Vol.27 No.3

We demonstrate that glycoprotein isolated from Dioscorea batatas (GDB) activates macrophage function. Analysis of the infiltration of macrophages into peritoneal cavity showed GDB treatment significantly increased the recruitment of macrophages into the peritoneal cavity. In order to further confirm and investigate the mechanism of GDB on macrophage activation, we analyzed the effects of GDB on the cytokine expression including IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6 in mouse peritoneal macrophages. GDB increased the expression of IL-1β, TNF-α, and IL-6. Cytokine induction by GDB was further confirmed by RT-PCR and ELISA in mouse macrophage cell line, RAW264.7 cells. Treatment of RAW264.7 cells with GDB produced strong induction of NF-κB DNA binding and MAPK phosphorylation, markers for macrophage activation and important factors for cytokine gene expression. Collectively, this series of experiments indicates that GDB stimulates macrophage activation.

Improvement of selective separation of CO2 over N2 by transition metal–exchanged nano-zeolite

Huong, Pham-Thi,Lee, Byeong-Kyu Elsevier 2017 Microporous and mesoporous materials Vol.241 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>This study investigated selective CO2 adsorption over N2 by metals exchanged nano-zeolite synthesized. The BET specific surface areas of nano zeolite after exchange by Cu (Cu-NZ) and Fe (Fe-NZ) ions were 869.32 and 721.46 m2/g, respectively. The CO2 adsorption capacities and CO2 selectivity over N2 of Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ were decreased with increasing temperature. Based on the Langmuir- Freundlich adsorption isotherms, the CO2 adsorption capacities of Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ were 7.16 and 6.23 mmol/g, respectively, measured at 20 °C and 1 atm. The highest CO2 selectivities by Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ were 50.71 and 46.38 at 20 °C, respectively. The improvement in CO2 adsorption capacity and adsorption selectivity could be explained due to the electron transfer by both σ-donation (electron transfer from bonding π2p orbitals of CO2 molecules to 4s orbital of Cu 2+ and Fe 3+ ions on the Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ, respectively). Also the d-π2 ∗ back donation by electron transfer from unoccupied 4d of Cu2+ and Fe 3+ ions to occupied π2p ∗ of CO2 molecule would be high effective to CO2 adsorption process. Adsorption kinetics showed that the pseudo-second order model was more suitable than the pseudo-first one for predicting the CO2 adsorption process by Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ. In the regeneration study of CO2-loaded adsorbents, even after 10 cycles of adsorption-desorption, the adsorption capacity of CO2 were decreased only 3.46 and 4.12% by using Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ, respectively. These adsorption and desorption characteristics suggest that Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ can be utilized as good adsorbents for the selective removal of CO2.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ demonstrated great potential for CO2 capture and CO2/N2 separation. </LI> <LI> The CO2 adsorption capacities of Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ were 7.16 and 6.23 mmol/g, respectively. </LI> <LI> The selectivities of CO2 over N2 by Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ were 50.71 and 46.36, respectively. </LI> <LI> The CO2 adsorption capacity decreased with increasing humility and temperature. </LI> <LI> CO2-loaded Cu-NZ and Fe-NZ exhibited great regeneration with high desorption efficiency. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>
