Characteristics of a plasma information variable in phenomenology-based, statistically-tuned virtual metrology to predict silicon dioxide etching depth

        Jang, Yunchang,Roh, Hyun-Joon,Park, Seolhye,Jeong, Sangmin,Ryu, Sanywon,Kwon, Ji-Won,Kim, Nam-Kyun,Kim, Gon-Ho Elsevier 2019 CURRENT APPLIED PHYSICS Vol.19 No.10

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>A phenomenology-based virtual metrology (VM) for monitoring SiO2 etching depth was proposed by Park (2015). It achieved high prediction accuracy by introducing newly developed plasma information (PI) variables as designated inputs, called PI-VM. The PI variables represent the state of the plasma, the sheath, and the target during the process. We investigate how a PI variable can help to improve prediction accuracy of VM and how it plays a special role in the statistical selection. We choose only PIEEDF among the three PI variables to focus on the investigation. The PIEEDF is determined from the ratio of line-intensities of optical emission spectroscopy. We apply Pearson's correlation filter (PCF), principal component analysis (PCA), and stepwise variable selection (SVS) as statistical selection methods on the variables set including PIEEDF or not. Multilinear regression is used to model the VM. This study reveals that PIEEDF variable is a good variable in terms of independence from other input variables and explanatory power for an output variable. Especially, VM using SVS method applied to variable sets including PIEEDF achieves the highest accuracy, comparable to Park's PI-VM. This study shows that PIEEDF variable is particularly useful for monitoring of the fine variations in semiconductor manufacturing process and it also extends the utilization of OES sensor data.</P>

Characterization of inhibitory constituents of NO production from <i>Catalpa ovata</i> using LC-MS coupled with a cell-based assay

        Park, Sangmin,Shin, Hyeji,Park, Yeeun,Choi, Ilgyu,Park, Byoungduck,Lee, Ki Yong Elsevier 2018 Bioorganic chemistry Vol.80 No.-

<P><B>Abstract</B></P> <P>An effective screening method for inhibitors of NO production in natural products using LC-QTOF MS/MS coupled with a cell-based assay was proposed. The ethyl acetate fraction of <I>Catalpa ovata</I> exhibited a strong inhibitory effect on NO production in lipopolysaccharide-induced BV2 microglia cells. We attempted to identify the active constituents of <I>C. ovata</I> by using LC-QTOF MS/MS coupled with a cell-based assay. Peaks at approximately 14–15 min on the MS chromatogram were estimated to be the bioactive constituents. A new iridoid compound, 6-<I>O-trans</I>-feruloyl-3β-hydroxy-7-deoxyrehamaglutin A (<B>4</B>), and nine known compounds (<B>1</B>–<B>3, 5</B>–<B>10</B>) were isolated from the ethyl acetate fraction of <I>C. ovata</I> by repeated column chromatography. Compounds <B>3</B>, <B>4</B>, <B>5</B>, <B>7</B>, and <B>8</B> significantly attenuated lipopolysaccharide-stimulated NO production in BV2 cells. Our results indicate that LC-QTOF MS/MS coupled with a cell-based NO production inhibitory assay successfully predicted active compounds without a time-consuming isolation process.</P> <P><B>Highlights</B></P> <P> <UL> <LI> LC-QTOF MS/MS coupled with a cell-based NO production inhibitory assay was developed. </LI> <LI> EtOAc fraction of <I>Catalpa ovata</I> showed inhibitory effect on NO production. </LI> <LI> Compounds between 14 and 15 min on Mass chromatogram inhibited NO production. </LI> <LI> Anti-inflammatory activity was tested on isolated compounds including a new compound. </LI> <LI> Predicted active compounds from developed method matched with the experimental data. </LI> </UL> </P> <P><B>Graphical abstract</B></P> <P>[DISPLAY OMISSION]</P>

        박경리 『토지』에 나타난 죽음의 수사학

        박상민(Park Sangmin) 한국수사학회 2011 수사학 Vol.0 No.15

This thesis deals with the types and the meanings of death in Park, Kyongni's novel, Toji(土地). Based on moral responsibility of death, the types of death in Toji can be categorized in natural death, death of disease, suicide, and homicide. The meanings and rhetoric characteristics of death on each category can be analyzed and derive the following conclusions: Firstly, unnatural death cases such as death of disease, suicide, and homicide are a lot more common than natural death cases on Toji. This feature primarily comes from the structural characteristics of Toji which progresses from stable social conditions to unstable social conditions. However, more fundamental rationale arises from Toji's rhetoric strategy to issue the moral discourse through various cases of death. Even though there is no explicit description on the meaning of death, the narrator raise the issue of moral responsibility and expand its unique moral discourse through many examples of death and individual cases. Secondly, the narrator has romantic attitude on suicide rather than making any moral criticism. Suicide is the last choice for the characters who want to solve their problems as the situation becomes critical. The narrator tends to describe those behaviors as the sanctity. Lastly, death becomes an ordinary routine by the endless cases of death. The readers encounter death, which is the utmost pain, in the middle of their life. Paradoxically, the readers obtain the strength to overcome the fear of death through these experiences. By clearly specifying the omnipresence of death, Toji makes the death an ordinary event and ultimately provides a hideout to overcome the fear of death.

      • A Study of Information Exchange for Architect & Engineer BIM Design under Low Impact Development Method

Sangmin Park,Reeho Kim 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.11 No.11

Collaboration of each division and BIM data continuity have been discussed continuously along with the introduction of the BIM design method in the construction sector and there is an increasing demand for design data analysis and simulation rather than simple design modeling. However, difficulties regarding data exchange using different software from different divisions in BIM design arose early in the implementation stage of BIM. Thus, designs have been conducted based only on the exchange between shape information and partial attributes. As a result of suggesting the data exchange method for design collaboration of BIM design in the civil engineering sector and simulating the analysis process with application of Low Impact Development (LID) in BIM design, smooth collaboration was maintained along with continuity of data between BIM design software and BIM-based analysis was subsequently carried out.

      • Application of ZFN technologies to plant breeding

        Sangmin Lee,Pil Joon Seo,Chung-Mo Park 한국육종학회 2012 한국육종학회 심포지엄 Vol.2012 No.07

Plant breeding is a multidisciplinary science of changing the genetic makeup of plants in order to generate desired traits or characteristics, and thus it can be accomplished through many different techniques ranging from simply selecting plants with desirable traits for propagation to more complex molecular techniques. Both conventional and genetically modified (GM) plant breeding alter or modify the genes of a plant so that a better variety is developed. Breeding using GM tools is achieved for the same reasons as conventional breeding. One prominent distinction is that instead of randomly mixing genes in conventional breeding, which occurs as a result of a sexual cross, a specific gene is directly transferred or selectively inactivated in the new plant variety through GM plant breeding. Site-specific mutagenesis and selection of gene knockout mutants are readily carried out in model plant species, such as Arabidopsis. However, targeted mutation of a specific gene is technically impractical, if not impossible, in most cases. As an alternative approach, RNA interference (RNAi), which is mediated by small interfering RNA (siRNA) and microRNA (miRNA), is routinely employed for targeted silencing of genes in academic and biotechnological studies. Recently, engineered nuclease-based genome editing tools, such as zinc-finger nucleases (ZFNs) and transcription activator-like effector nucleases (TALENs), have been developed to induce site-specific genome modifications in both animals and plants. ZFNs are chimeric DNA restriction enzymes that consist of the nuclease domain of the Fok1 restriction enzyme, which triggers double strand breaks in genomic DNAs, and a custom-designed ZF DNA-binding domain, which guides the ZFNs to specific sequences within genomic DNAs. The double-strand breaks are rejoined by cellular DNA repair machinery, resulting in targeted mutagenesis or targeted gene replacement. In this work, we employed the ZFN tool to specifically inactivate two flowering genes, such as FCA and GI that also mediate high temperature responses and clock output signaling, respectively, in a bioenergy grass crop, Brachypodium distachyon. We designed extensive sets of ZF recognition sequences that recognize target sequences within the FCA and GI genes. The potential ZFN cassettes were transformed into Brachypodium ecotype Bd21-3. The transformants will be screened to identify those carrying targeted gene mutations. We will also discuss the extension of the ZFN tool to other plant species, including crops.
