Vol.- No.3

I have suggested that complexity as an issue in music is inseperable from listener perception: complexity as experienced while obviously affected by the composer's score is still, ultimately, "in the ear of the listener." The relation between density and complexity was explored with it being noted that density on a macro or micro level is not necessarily perceived as more complex. Chance and complexity were related via Cage's music with total independence of parts resulting in complex, anarchic polyphony. As a future compositional project, the relation between chaos in nature and in music was proposed as a source of potential new dynamic musical forms that might aid the further study of complexity in musical composition. Macro and mirco complexity in the music of Ligeti and Xenakis was discussed as an example of how composers have dealt with complexity as a way of creating new and unexpected results in harmony, rhythm, order, and disorder. Finally, the issue of transition and complexity was approached, illustrating how transition that contrasts the complex and the simple aids in formal perception. The music of Cacioppo was cited as one who explored a continuum of transition between the simple tone and the complex noise.

      • Obstacle Avoidance with Visual Control of Adjustable Zoom-Cameras

2003 International Journal of Assistive Robotics and Me Vol.4 No.1

The new features of the rehabilitation robot FRIEND that consists of a wheelchair and a robot arm to support tetraplegics are presented in this paper. We especially consider obstacle avoidance during grasping and handling of objects. Visual servoing with a stereo-system is used to control the robot. For obstacle avoidance the method of virtual points is used. In this paper, we extend the method to adjustable cameras that are mounted on pan-tilt heads. Together with the stereo-system it guarantees that the gripper and the object are always in the common field of view of both cameras, thereby enhances the robustness of the control system.

Investigating the Effects of Low-Dose Radiation from Chernobyl to Fukushima: History Repeats Itself

        ( Anders Pape Moller ),( Timothy A. Mousseau ) 경남대학교 극동문제연구소 2013 ASIAN PERSPECTIVE Vol.37 No.4

The disasters at Chernobyl and Fukushima released large amounts of radioactive material, equivalent to many hundreds of nuclear bombs the size of those at Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Currently, there is worldwide interest in the effects of so-called low-dose radiation on public health and on biological systems from molecules to ecosystems. Research efforts to quantify these effects constitute a curious mixture of Soviet science, research by independent scientists, and research supported by the nuclear industry. The article explains how navigating between these diverse efforts can be reconciled to synthesize available information to the benefit of the general public and the policymaking community. • LET’S GET PHYGITAL! THE INFLUENCE OF AR-ENABLED PRODUCTS ON CONSUMER-BASED BRAND EQUITY AND REPURCHASE INTENTION

2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07

The rapid advancement of technology has created unprecedented opportunities for brands to engage with their existing and potential consumers through digitally enriched products. One such technology that enables the digital enrichment of analog products is augmented reality (AR). Through AR, consumers are able to directly interact with brands, for example, by scanning a product to unlock animated digital content that prompts them to take reciprocal actions. Recognizing that technologies that fail to actively engage consumers may struggle to realize their full potential, our study incorporates consumer brand engagement as a key factor of investigation. Consumer engagement with the brand signifies a higher level of commitment and aids in building lasting and beneficial relationships, as well as enhancing brand knowledge, ultimately positively influencing consumer-based brand equity.

      • BRAND AND LINE EXTENSIONS: AN EMPIRICAL STUDY FROM THE NEW AGE LUXURY INDUSTRY

2015 Global Fashion Management Conference Vol.2015 No.06

Purpose: Brand and line extension represents an essential vehicle for growth and is currently one of the most applied marketing strategies within the luxury sector. Though it has its advantages, there are several risks associated with pursuing such a strategy. Consequently, this paper attempts to understand the reasons for brand and line extensions as a way of growth in the new era of luxury expansion. Theory: The study extends the literature of brand and line extensions through an empirical study. Methodology: An integrative model of key success factors behind brand and line extensions is proposed by combining current research with empirical findings obtained through an explorative and qualitative research design based on primary data from eight semi-structured interviews with managers from luxury brands. Findings and Contribution: We identify five key success factors: (1) add value through originality, (2) stay at the level of the brand regarding price, quality, style and image, (3) create relevance to core business and be aligned with DNA, (4) stick to the vision of the founder and (5) assure consistency in brand identity and image. Sig-nificantly, the predominant themes are alignment between the parent brand and the extension and the extension in itself, which resonates with the existing research on the field. Further, drawing on the notion of alignment, this thesis also finds evidence of the importance of consistent brand cues such as storytelling, values, heritage, tradition and visual icons. Practical implications: It is suggested that the five success factors identified in the empirical data to the greatest extent possible should apply to any future brand extension and that resources should be allocated to reinforce the alignment between extension and parent brand. Research limitations: It would be insightful to conduct additional interviews with top managers from other brands to further elaborate on the identified success factors.

A Long Way from Transfer to Transition: Challenges for Pediatric and Adult Nephrologists

Lemke, Johanna,Pape, Lars,Oh, Jun Korean Society of Pediatric Nephrology 2018 Childhood kidney diseases Vol.22 No.1

Significant advances in the diagnosis and medical care of children with chronic kidney disease (CKD) are major reasons for the better survival rates of children and adolescents with CKD than the survival rates reported in previous decades. These patients are reaching adulthood, and therefore require a transition to adult medical care. This transition phase is well-recognized to be associated with considerably increased morbidities and medical problems, such as non-adherence, graft loss after transplantation, and loss to follow-up. Low adherence increases morbidity and medical complications and contributes to poorer qualities of life and an overuse of the health care system. However, these tragic outcomes may be avoidable through a structured and well-defined transition program. In the last decade, there has been increasing interest to resolve these medical and psychological problems that occur during the transfer of young adult patients from pediatric to adult renal units. The aims of a successful transition from pediatric to adult medical care include enhancing the individual development of better health-competence and stabilizing, or even improving, the state of health. This review will focus on various aspects of the transition phase of adolescents who have CKD or who underwent kidney transplantation from pediatric to adult nephrology care.

      • Realtime Corridor Detection for Mobile Robot Navigation with Hough Transform Using a Depth Camera

        A. Saglam,Y. Vol.2021 No.10

The ability to detect corridor-like structures is essential for autonomous mobile robot navigation in indoor environments. In this paper, we present a novel method for real-time corridor detection using a single depth camera. Our aim is to find a corridor just by looking at walls, even if there are some objects inside, such as a trash can or a chair. Once the corridor has been determined, the robot can be moved smoothly along the hallway semi-autonomously with simple commands without hitting the walls. The proposed work combines layers of occupancy-maps extracted from Point Cloud into one final occupancy grid-map, where 2D Hough Transform is applied to extract the lines corresponding to the corridor walls. The method has been tested on a real-robot using Mynt-eye depth camera. The experimental results show the reliability and efficiency of the proposed technique for navigation tasks in corridor-like unknown environments.

      • Visual Servoing with Adjustable Zoom Cameras

2003 International Journal of Assistive Robotics and Me Vol.4 No.3

All service robots like FRIEND need different sensor signals to implement semi autonomous behaviour. For visually guided tasks FRIEND is equipped with two zoom-cameras mounted on pan-tilt heads to actively control the orientation of the cameras. Due to variable camera orientation, the common field of view is extended and robustness of visual servoing is improved. This paper presents the extension of the well known visual servoing method extended for adjustable zoom cameras as visual system. The mathematical description of the method is presented. Then pan-tilt and zoom control algorithms, integration of the corresponding control loops into the main system, and its influence on visual guided system are also discussed.
