Molecular dynamics analysis of water flow through a multiply connected carbon nanotube channel
Papadopoulou Ermioni,Kim Gwan Woo,Koumoutsakos Petros,Kim Gunn 한국물리학회 2023 Current Applied Physics Vol.45 No.-
The filling process of nanoconduits is an active research topic. In this study, we use molecular dynamics simulations to identify the filling process of water molecules in a multiply connected carbon nanotube (MCCNT). For water permeation, a local change in the channel cross-section affects the water filling of MCCNTs because it may lead to irregularities in the permeation profile. A decrease in hydrogen bonds at the junctions of the structure characterizes the permeability of MCCNTs. In contrast to pristine CNTs, the complex nanochannel exhibits a different imbibition profile due to the energy changes at the junction. Next, we examine the local water density and velocity patterns in MCCNT channels to understand how junction regions affect steady-state water transport. We find that there is congestion and irregularities in steady water flow density and velocity profiles. Through this study, we expect to develop effective channels with more complex geometries for water purification and drug delivery.

The present study was conducted to investigate the prognostic significance of co-expression patterna of HER-2, IL-6, TNF-a and TGF-${\beta}1$ in breast cancer, by correlating the number of markers with positive expression with clinicopathological characteristics indicative of tumor progression and overall survival. One hundred thirty consecutive patients with primary breast cancer were prospectively included and evaluated. Serum concentrations of the above markers were measured by ELISA. Median split was used to subdivide patients with marker positive or negative expression. The presence of ${\geq}3$ positive markers was independently associated with extended lymph node (>3) involvement (aOR, 11.94, p=0.001) and lymphovascular invasion (aOR, 12.04, p=0.018), increasing the prognostic significance of each marker considered separately. Additional prognostic information regarding survival was also provided; as the number of positive markers increased, a gradually reduction of survival time was observed. In addition, patients with 4 positive markers had significantly shorter survival (25 vs 39 months, p=0.006) and a more than 4 fold increased risk of death (aHR, 4.35, p=0.003) compared to patients with 3 positive markers. Our findings suggest that the coexpression pattern of these four markers could be used clinically as a useful marker for tumor extension and outcome of breast cancer.
Simple nonlinear static analysis of steel portal frame with pitched roof exposed to fire
Papadopoulos, Panagis G.,Papadopoulou, Anastassia K.,Papaioannou, Kyriakos K. Techno-Press 2008 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.29 No.1
Plane steel portal frames, with pitched roof, exposed to fire, are examined. First, a determinate frame is analysed by hand. For flexible columns and shallow roof, snap-through occurs before plastic hinges mechanism is formed. An indeterminate frame with shorter columns and taller roof is also analysed by hand. Then, the same frame is simulated by a truss and a nonlinear static analysis is performed by use of a short computer program. The results of computer analysis by use of truss model are compared with those of analysis by hand and a satisfactory approximation between them is observed.
Antimicrobial Activity of Basil, Oregano, and Thyme Essential Oils
( Hercules Sakkas ),( Chrissanthy Papadopoulou ) 한국미생물 · 생명공학회 2017 Journal of microbiology and biotechnology Vol.27 No.3
For centuries, plants have been used for a wide variety of purposes, from treating infectious diseases to food preservation and perfume production. Presently, the increasing resistance of microorganisms to currently used antimicrobials in combination with the appearance of emerging diseases requires the urgent development of new, more effective drugs. Plants, due to the large biological and structural diversity of their components, constitute a unique and renewable source for the discovery of new antibacterial, antifungal, and antiparasitic compounds. In the present paper, the history, composition, and antimicrobial activities of the basil, oregano, and thyme essential oils are reviewed.
THE PREDICTIVE POWER OF CONSUMER DISPOSITIONS ON DOMESTIC AND PRODUCT PURCHASE
Adamantios Diamantopoulos,Christina Papadopoulou,Merve Vardarsuyu,Michela Matarazzo 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07
We investigate the incremental predictive power of three consumer dispositions – xenocentrism, cosmopolitanism and ethnocentrism – on domestic and foreign product purchase intentions, after taking the impact of consumer demographics and product category-specific variables into account. Using data from an online survey of 201 Turkish consumers, hierarchical regression analysis reveals that widely used demographic variables (namely, age, gender and education) do not significantly influence consumer intentions to buy either domestic or foreign clothing products. Of the consumer dispositions, xenocentrism exerts a significant negative effect on domestic product purchase intentions, cosmopolitanism has a positive effect on foreign product purchase intentions, while ethnocentrism shows no effect on either domestic or foreign product purchase intentions. Implications of the findings are considered and future research directions identified.

Microbial assessment of grape marc wastes, the residual solid by-product of the wine-industry, was performed by identifying phylogenetically the fungal culturable diversity in order to evaluate environmental and disposal safety issues and to discuss ecological considerations of applications on agricultural land. Fungal spores in grape marc were estimated to 4.7×106 per g dry weight. Fifty six fungal isolates were classified into eight operational taxonomic units (OTUs) following amplified ribosomal DNA restriction analysis (ARDRA) and colony morphology. Based on 18S rRNA gene and 5.8S rRNA gene-ITS sequencing, the isolates representing OTUs #1, #2, #3, and #4, which comprised 44.6%, 26.8%, 12.5%, and 5.3%, respectively, of the number of the total isolates, were identified as Aspergillus fumigatus, Bionectria ochroleuca, Haematonectria haematococca, and Trichosporon mycotoxinivorans. The isolates of OTU#5 demonstrated high phylogenetic affinity with Penicillium spp., while members of OTUs #6 and #7 were closer linked with Geotrichum candidum var. citri-aurantii and Mycocladus corymbifer, respectively (95.4 and 97.9% similarities in respect to their 5.8S rRNA gene-ITS sequences). The OTU#8 with a single isolate was related with Aspergillus strains. It appears that most of the fungal isolates are associated with the initial raw material. Despite the fact that some of the species identified may potentially act as pathogens, measures such as the avoidance of maintaining large and unprocessed quantities of grape marc wastes in premises without adequate aeration, together with its suitable biological treatment (e.g., composting) prior to any agriculture-related application, could eliminate any pertinent health risks.
Cointegration Analysis of Rural Wheat Markets in Northern Bangladesh
Mohammad Ismail Hossain,Eleni Papadopoulou,Esmat Ara Begum 인하대학교 정석물류통상연구원 2011 JOURNAL OF INTERNATIONAL LOGISTICS AND TRADE Vol.9 No.2
This paper examines the cointegration of wheat market prices in Northern Bangladesh. Results are based on weekly wholesale price data on wheat collected from the Department of Agricultural Marketing (DAM) in eight markets in the Rangpur division of Northern Bangladesh. The data has 208 observations for wheat in each of the eight markets ranging over a period of January 2006 to December 2009. Johansen’s cointegration test reveals that most of the wholesale markets of wheat in the Rangpur division are co-integrated which indicates that price signals and information are transmitted smoothly across the markets. The discovery of the market integration appears to be quite significant for the success of price policy and market liberalization programs which are being undertaken in Bangladesh.

Reperfusion of the ischemic brain parenchyma with intravenous thrombolysis and/or mechanical thrombectomy is the cornerstone of acute ischemic stroke treatment. A paradigm shift from “time is brain” to a more precision medicine approach now called “imaging is brain”, has taken place during the last decade. This transformation has been fueled by the progress in neuroimaging. Advanced Neuroimaging incorporates perfusion imaging in order to depict real-time cerebral perfusion disturbances and provide maps of the penumbra and ischemic core that will inform individualized clinical decisions. Advance neuroimaging has now a fundamental role in triaging patients that will receive reperfusion treatments beyond the conventional time windows of 4.5 hours for intravenous thrombolysis and 6 hours for mechanical thrombectomy. We provide a narrative review of all the pivotal observational studies and randomized-controlled clinical trials that supported the use of advance neuroimaging, as well as technical issues and pitfalls that may be useful for its implementation in routine clinical practice.
