The reduction of the ripple of driving force is especially required for the practical utilization of linear synchronous motor for rope-less elevator. In this paper, the magnetic region of the linear motor is optimized by using topology optimization techniques (density method and ON/OFF method) in order to reduce the ripple of driving force. The optimal results of both methods are compared, and useful information for the optimal design of linear motor is obtained.
Blood Protein Polymorphisms of Native Fowls in Laos
Okamoto, S.,Tsunekawa, N.,Kawamoto, Y.,Worawut, R.,Kawabe, K.,Maeda, Y.,Nishida, T. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 1999 Animal Bioscience Vol.12 No.7
Blood protein polymorphism of fowls in Laos was analyzed by electrophoresis. Blood samples were collected in the area of Viangchan, Louangphrabang and Pakxe. Out of 17 loci, polymorphism was detected at the following seven loci; ES-1, Amy-1, Akp-akp, Akp-2, Alb, Tf and Pas. The other ten loci; Amy-3, LDH, 6-PGD, PGM, PHI, To, MDH, Es-D, Hb-l, Hb-2 were noted to be monomorphic. The proportion of polymorphic loci $(P_{poly})$, the expected average heterozygosity per individual ($\bar{H}$), and the subdivision index $(G_{ST})$ of the native fowl in Laos was $0.412{\pm}0.123$, 0.106 and 0.026, respectively. Genetic distance between native fowls in Laos, Bangladesh, and Nepal was clustered in one group.
Charge Transfer in Iridate-Manganite Superlattices
Okamoto, Satoshi,Nichols, John,Sohn, Changhee,Kim, So Yeun,Noh, Tae Won,Lee, Ho Nyung American Chemical Society 2017 NANO LETTERS Vol.17 No.4

Charge transfer in superlattices consisting of SrIrO3 and SrMnO3 is investigated using density functional theory. Despite the nearly identical work function and nonpolar interfaces between SrIrO3 and SrMnO3, rather large charge transfer was experimentally reported at the interface between them. Here, we report a microscopic model that captures the mechanism behind this phenomenon, providing a qualitative understanding of the experimental observation. This leads to unique strain dependence of such charge transfer in iridate-manganite superlattices. The predicted behavior is consistently verified by experiment with soft X-ray and optical spectroscopy. Our work thus demonstrates a new route to control electronic states in nonpolar oxide heterostructures.

Animal Production and Phytodiversity in Semi-natural Grasslands of the Aso Region, Japan
Okamoto Chinobu,Kiyotaka Kabata 한국생태학회 2004 Journal of Ecology and Environment Vol.27 No.4
In this review, we present the results of our ten years of study on beef cattle production as a means of preserving phytodiversity and landscape in the semi-natural grasslands of the Aso region of Japan. There are about 16,000 ha of semi-natural grasslands in the region. The grasslands are maintained for animal production through such activities as grazing, mowing, and controlled burning. The Shannon s diversity index values, as measured in the present study, were higher in the grazed sites than in the abandoned sites. The grazing activities thus seem to create suitable habitats for coexisting herbaceous species. The grassland grazed moderately over a long term was able to sustain more animals than the grassland unused over a long term.
