Narrative Gaps, Hermeneutics, and Aesthetic Emotion in Asian American Literature
Vol.1 No.1
Despite the growing popularity of Asian American literature in academic circles and beyond, current literary theoretical models fall short of being adequately useful in describing and analyzing Asian American literary texts. This essay first examines potential problems related to the current literary theory about narrative gaps and hermeneutic codes and describes how Asian American writers attempt to bridge the gaps and manage the codes by providing extra-narrative supplements and/or narrative inserts. This essay also examines how the element of aesthetic or narrative emotion works differently in reading multi-cultural literature. The essay concludes by proposing a few guidelines on developing theoretical models that describe and explain the ways in which Asian American literary texts work. For examples, we need to accept the fact that multi-cultural literary texts are bound to be read differently by cultural insiders and outsiders, that sometimes misunderstanding or confusion is part of the reading process, and that readers are to understand the cultural background in order to fully appreciate the text’s density and its aesthetic value.
Literature about Genocides: Politics, Pedagogy, & Aesthetics
Vol.66 No.2
In the US, as of today, twelve states require middle and high school teachers to “prepare students to confront the immorality of the Holocaust, genocide, and other acts of mass violence and to reflect on the causes of related historical events.” Other states are following suit, and there is an increasing pressure from various sectors of society to have all fifty states require instruction on the Holocaust and other genocides. Years ago, I felt obligated to prepare my secondary education majors to teach the required subject, and I happened to have a scholarly interest in the narrative strategies to depict and convey “unspeakable” and “unthinkable” traumatic experiences of genocides. I have since been teaching genocide literature in some of my courses, and this essay reflects on that experience. How do I choose textbooks while considering the aesthetic merits of each text, its teachability and accessibility, and the competing demands of Holocaust organizations and other social groups? Once texts are chosen, how do I engage students to help them understand and care about past events that happened worlds away to people they may consider as “Other”? How do I deal with emotional, moral, socio-political, and literary issues in a way that does justice to the victims? Once a semester is through, how do I assess my teaching effectiveness?
A QoS Control Mechanism for Networked Virtual Reality System
Vol.1 No.-
AI and Posthuman Romance in Literature and Film
Vol.9 No.-
From Pygmalion’s Galatea in Greek mythology to Joi in Blade Runner 2049, literary and cinematic writers explored the possibility of men’s heteronormative romantic relationships with women created by art and technology. In recent decades, with artificial intelligence growing even more powerful, writers can even imagine digital, virtual, or robotic beings capable of becoming heterosexual men’s ideal romantic partners, who may even be capable of reproduction. This paper examines the representation of digital, virtual and robotic female companions depicted in literature and film: “Helen O’Loy” (1938), HER (2014), Ex-Machina (2015), and Blade Runner 2049 (2017). While this history of creative imagination mirrors the male-dominant culture of Silicon Valley and even suggests an implicit desire to return to the old misogynistic gender politics, the reception of these works points to an interesting cultural, psychological, and literary insight into the changing paradigms or “algorithms” of romantic love and gender relations in our posthuman era. Sooner or later, “digisexuality” may become one of the widely recognized sexual identities.
Development of New Mini Manual T/M with High Torque Capacity

Design optimization is an important driveline issue that originates in the limited design space. Especially for the mini segment vehicle, this packaging issue is more important. This paper outlined the process of design of new mini manual transaxle with high torque capacity. The requirement was to upgrade the input torque capacity of the transaxle from 104Nm to 120Nm. Despite the increase of the torque capacity, the packaging space and the manufacturing constraints should remain unchanged. The center distance of new transaxle with the input torque of l20Nm is same 60㎜ as that of old one with 104 Nm input torque. The normal center distance with the input torque of 120Nm is approximate 65㎜. The new design passed all the tests in both dynamo and vehicle and finally developed for mass production.
