Impact of Teachers’ Professional Development on Students’ Performance

        Mahwish Parveen,Obaid Ullah,Muhammad Salam,Naeem Zakir 한국유통과학회 2014 The Journal of Industrial Distribution & Business( Vol.5 No.3

Purpose - This study was conducted to identify the impact of teachers’ professional development on students’ performance. It examines the nature of association between teachers’ professional development and students’ performance, and analyzes how students can be affected by different factors of teachers’ professional development. Research design, data, and methodology - In order to obtain the required goals, Data were randomly collected from 100 students and 45 teachers from three different institutes that are affiliated with KPK Agriculture University, Peshawar. To test the association between teachers’ professional development and students’ performance, the Chi-square test was applied. Gamma measurement was computed to check the direction of association. Results - The results of the study supported the statement that there exists a positive relationship between teachers’ professional development and students’ performance. Conclusion - Based on the findings it is surmised that, in order to create a clear learning relationship between teachers and students, management must support the teachers through peer group discussions and training opportunities, and should chooseteachers who can make students pursue the learning of subject knowledge with practical implementation

Fall detection through acoustic Local Ternary Patterns

        Adnan, Syed M.,Irtaza, Aun,Aziz, Sumair,Ullah, M. Obaid,Javed, Ali,Mahmood, Muhammad Tariq Elsevier 2018 Applied acoustics Vol.140 No.-

Abstract

In this paper, we propose a framework that detects falls by using acoustic Local Ternary Patterns (acoustic-LTPs) by analyzing environmental sounds. The proposed method suppresses silence zones in sound signals and distinguishes overlapping sounds. Acoustic features are extracted from the Separated source components by using the proposed acoustic-LTPs. Subsequently, fall events are detected through a support vector machine (SVM) based classifier. The performance of the proposed descriptor is evaluated against state-of-the-art methods that are applied on well-known sound databases. A comparative analysis demonstrates that the proposed descriptor is more powerful and reliable in terms of fall detection than other methods, and it also performs well in a multi-class environment. Moreover, the proposed descriptor possesses a rotation invariant property, and therefore, it demonstrates significant resistance against the rotated sound signals.

Reactive oxygen species-mediated unfolded protein response pathways in preimplantation embryos

        Ihsan Ali,Syed Zahid Ali Shah,Yi Jin,Zhong-Shu Li,Obaid Ullah,Nan-Zhu Fang 대한수의학회 2017 Journal of Veterinary Science Vol.18 No.1

Excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) and endoplasmic reticulum (ER) stress-mediated responses are critical to embryonic development in the challenging in vitro environment. ROS production increases during early embryonic development with the increase in protein requirements for cell survival and growth. The ER is a multifunctional cellular organelle responsible for protein folding, modification, and cellular homeostasis. ER stress is activated by a variety of factors including ROS. Such stress leads to activation of the adaptive unfolded protein response (UPR), which restores homeostasis. However, chronic stress can exceed the toleration level of the ER, resulting in cellular apoptosis. In this review, we briefly describe the generation and impact of ROS in preimplantation embryo development, the ROS-mediated activation mechanism of the UPR via the ER, and the subsequent activation of signaling pathways following ER stress in preimplantation embryos.
