<P>ZnO nanorods (Nrods) with ~20–50 nm lengths were synthesized using an aqueous solution of zinc acetate and glacial acetic acid. Bulk heterojunction solar cells were fabricated with the structure of indium tin oxide (ITO)/polyethylenedioxythiophene doped with polystyrene-sulfonic acid (PEDOT:PSS)/ZnO-Nrods + polymer/electron transport layer (ETL)/Al. Current density-voltage characterization of the resulting cells showed that, by adding an ETL and using polymers with a low band gap energy, the photoactive layer surface morphology and the device performance can be dramatically improved.</P>

Cu/Cu2O powder nanocomposites (PNCs) were successfully synthesized by colloidal solution method. Toinvestigate the influence of oxidant agent concentration on the crystallite size and lattice constant of the PNCs, X-raydiffraction (XRD) was utilized to collect the database for crystal growth analysis. Due to the imperfect crystal growth, the Nelson-Riley function and the Williamson-Hall method were used to confirm the precise values of the PNCs. TheRietveld refinement method based on the XRD pattern was used. The XRD results show that the diffraction peakswere mainly assigned to the cubic structure, in good agreement with the ICDD standards. Furthermore, the change inoxidant agent concentration led to a very small change of microstrain in the peaks of Cu/Cu2O PNCs. Using thesemethods can aid in the precise study of the crystalline structure of the material, which can then be calculated to adjustthe influencing conditions during the synthesis of the material.

Bulk hetero-junction solar cells based on blends of poly[2-methoxy, 5-(2’-ethylhexyloxy)-1,4-phenylene-vinylene] (MEH-PPV) and [6,6]-phenylen C61-butyric acid methyl ester (PCBM) were studied. The morphological of devices were investigated where varying the nitrogen plasma treatment, the casting solvents, and the thermal treatment. An optimized morphology was found to enhance the device performance to a power conversion efficiency of up to 2.5%, are measured using a Keithley 2425 source unit with an A.M 1.5G solar simulator light source (100 W/cm2).

Bulk hetero-junction solar cells with CdSe nanoparticles-P_3HT (poly 3-hexyl thiophene) composite active layer were fabricated, and the control of morphological feature of the nanoparticle-polymer composite thin films was investigated. A binary solvent composed of a primary solvent with intermediate polarity and a secondary solvent with high polarity was found to be effective in controlling the dispersion of the CdSe nanocrystals in the P_3HT matrix, and the modification of the nanocrystal surface by liquid-liquid extraction process was found to be effective in achieving the desired composite film morphology. Surface roughness of the active layer was optimized for various loadings of CdSe nanoparticles and could be reproducibly controlled to less than 10 nm.
