Comparison of the effects of two different styles of orally prescribing prednisolone on postoperative sequelae of surgical extraction of an impacted mandibular third molar: a single-blind randomized study

        Mohammed Mousa H. Bakri,Faisal Hussain Alabdali,Rashed Hussain Mahzari,Thamer Jabril Rajhi,Norah Mohammed Gohal,Rehab Abdu Sufyani,Asma Ali Hezam,Ahtesham Ahmed Qurishi,Hamed Mousa Bakri,Fareedi Mukra 대한구강악안면외과학회 2024 대한구강악안면외과학회지 Vol.50 No.1

Objectives: Surgical intervention for removal of an impacted third molar can lead to significant pain and swelling. Corticosteroids show promise for mitigating postoperative sequelae across various surgical contexts. The use of corticosteroids following minor oral surgery, though controversial, has already been proven effective. However, little research has explored peroral prescription of corticosteroids despite its convenience for outpatients and for non-surgeons like implantologists and periodontists and others who don’t have access to needle injections. The aim of this study was to address a void in the literature by comparing the effects of two styles of preoral administration of prednisolone after surgical removal of the mandibular third molar and to determine which style minimizes postoperative sequelae. Materials and Methods: A randomized, split-mouth clinical study was conducted to investigate the efficacy of two different styles of preoral prednisolone in mitigating postoperative sequelae following surgical extraction of impacted mandibular third molars. Fifteen participants were enrolled in the study. Random selection was used to determine the prescription style for the right and left mandibular arch. Group A included those who received a single dose of prednisolone 25 mg, while group B received prednisolone 5 mg postoperatively for a period of three days (5 mg three times/day on the first postoperative day, 5 mg twice/day on the second postoperative day; 5 mg once/day on the third postoperative day). Results: There was a significant difference in the distance between the corner of the mouth and tragus, which decreased with the time interval with respect to group B when compared to group A. Conclusion: The present study showed that a three-day tapered dose of prednisolone postoperatively was more effective in reducing post-extraction sequelae than a single-dose regimen.

The Impact of Big Data Analytics on Audit Procedures: Evidence from the Middle East

Mousa ALRASHIDI,Abdullah ALMUTAIRI,Omar ZRAQAT 한국유통과학회 2022 The Journal of Asian Finance, Economics and Busine Vol.9 No.2

The goal of this study was to see how big data analytics (BDA) affected external audit procedures in the Middle East. The measurement model and structural model of this investigation were evaluated using PLS-SEM (3.3.3). The study sample members were (361) auditors who work in auditing companies in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, and Iraq. A questionnaire was chosen to the study sample members electronically, and the study sample members were (5093) auditors who work in auditing companies in Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Jordan, Bahrain, Egypt, Lebanon, and Iraq. To choose the sample, the researchers used a stratified random sampling procedure. The findings show that BDA has an impact on audit procedures at all phases of the auditing process, where it contributes to information delivery that helps auditors understand the client’s internal and external environments, which in turn influences the choice to accept the audit assignment. Furthermore, by providing essential information, BDA enables auditors to simply run analytical procedures, estimate client risks, and understand and evaluate the internal control system. As a result, auditors must develop their abilities in the BDA field, as it adds to the creation of additional value for both auditors and their clients.

A Systems Engineering Approach for CEDM Digital Twin to Support Operator Actions

Mousa, Mostafa Mohammed,Jung, Jae Cheon The Korean Society of Systems Engineering 2020 시스템엔지니어링학술지 Vol.16 No.2

Improving operator performance in complex and time-critical situations is critical to maintain plant safety and operability. These situations require quick detection, diagnosis, and mitigation actions to recover from the root cause of failure. One of the key challenges for operators in nuclear power plants is information management and following the control procedures and instructions. Nowadays Digital Twin technology can be used for analyzing and fast detection of failures and transient situations with the recommender system to provide the operator or maintenance engineer with recommended action to be carried out. Systems engineering approach (SE) is used in developing a digital twin for the CEDM system to support operator actions when there is a misalignment in the control element assembly group. Systems engineering is introduced for identifying the requirements, operational concept, and associated verification and validation steps required in the development process. The system developed by using a machine learning algorithm with a text mining technique to extract the required actions from limiting conditions for operations (LCO) or procedures that represent certain tasks.

Novel Thermal Stable Organosoluble Polyamides and Polyimides Based on Quinoxalin Bulky Pendent Group

        Mousa Ghaemy,Roghieh Porazizollahy,Maasoomeh Bazzar 한국고분자학회 2011 Macromolecular Research Vol.19 No.6

A new diamine containing a bulky diphenylquinoxalin pendant, 3,5-diamino-N-(2,3-diphenylquinoxalin-7-yl)benzamide (DQB), was synthesized in four steps through the nucleophilic aromatic substitution of 3,5-dinitrobenzoylchloride with 2,3-diphenylquinoxalin-6-amine and subsequent catalytic reduction. All intermediates and DQB were fully characterized by FTIR, NMR and elemental analysis. A series of polyamides PA(a-e) was synthesized from this diamine by direct polycondensation with various dicarboxylic acids, triphenyl phosphate and pyridine in N-methyl-2-pyrrolidynone (NMP). Three polyimides PI(a-c) were synthesized from this diamine using commercial dianhydrides in two-step polycondensation. Characterization of polymers was accomplished by FTIR,H NMR, elemental analysis, DSC, DMTA, GPC, and TGA. The intrinsic viscosities of PAs ranged from 0.54 to 0.67dL/g. PAs displayed T_g values of 140-298 ℃ and 10% weight loss of 415-485 ℃ in N_2. The T_g values of the PIs varied between 200 and 310 ℃, with 10% weight loss above 500℃ in N_2. The PAs were soluble in common polar aprotic solvents at room temperature whereas the aromatic PIs were dissolved by heating at 60 ℃.

        Mousa Ghaemy,Farzaneh Hashemi Nasr,Raouf Alizadeh,Mehdi Taghavi 한국고분자학회 2012 Macromolecular Research Vol.20 No.6

A series of novel polyamides (PAs) bearing substituted carbazole and imidazole rings in the main-chain were successfully synthesized via direct phosphorylation polycondensation between a new diamine, 5,5'-(9-octyl-carbazole-3,6-diyl)bis[4-phenyl-2-(4-amino-phenyl)-1H-imidazole], and various commercially available dicarboxylic acids. All intermediates and polymers were fully characterized by FTIR, NMR, and elemental analysis. These polymers were obtained in good yields with inherent viscosities of 0.42-0.55 dL/g and number average molecular weights (Mn)in the range of 24,875-31,720 g/mol molecular weight distribution (MWD=1.57-2.5). They exhibited excellent solubility in common polar aprotic organic solvents. These polymers had high glass transition temperatures (Tg)s (204-309 oC) and their temperatures at 10% weight loss (T10%) were found to be in the range of 404-511 oC in nitrogen. They exhibited strong UV absorption with maxima at 320-335 nm, and their photoluminescence (PL) efficiency was affected by their chemical structure; PL quantum yields were in the range of 4%-34%. The aliphatic PAs emitted blue light at λe.max=465 nm, while the aromatic PAs emitted green light at λe.max=490-510 nm in NMP solution.

      • In vitro degradation behavior and cytocompatibility of a bioceramic anodization films on the biodegradable magnesium alloy

        Mousa, H.M.,Hussein, K.H.,Pant, H.R.,Woo, H.M.,Park, C.H.,Kim, C.S. Elsevier 2016 Colloids and surfaces. A, Physicochemical and engi Vol.488 No.-

<P>Magnesium (Mg), and its alloys have good potential for using in biomedical applications due to its good mechanical properties and biodegradability. However, the poor corrosion resistance and insufficient mechanical stability of Mg in biological fluids have limited its clinical applicability. As a result, surface modification techniques are being investigated to improve corrosion resistance for biomedical applications. In this study, a bioactive CaP film were deposited on the surface of the AZ31B magnesium alloy via anodization with SBF solution used as the electrolyte with and without ZrO2 Nanoparticles (NPs). The samples were evaluated and characterized in vitro to assess their degradation and cytocompatability behaviour via FE-SEM, electrochemical corrosion test, immersion test, and cell culture tests. The results indicate that the AZ31B Mg alloy surface anodized in SBF with and without ZrO2 NPs consists of CaP nanoplate leaf-like apatite structures and porous 3-D structures, respectively. The nanomorphology showed uniform growth on the anodized surface that had created the porous layer on the surface of the samples three days after immersion in the SBF solution. The formation of such nanostructures on the anodized sample could provide the implant materials with extra biocompatibility. Moreover, this unique deposited layer can improve the corrosion resistance and cytocompatability of the Mg alloys, which make it a promising material for use in biomedical applications.
