Wave dispersion properties in imperfect sigmoid plates using various HSDTs

        Belaid Batou,Mokhtar Nebab,Riadh Bennai,Hassen Ait Atmane,Abdeldjebbar Tounsi,Mohammed Bouremana 국제구조공학회 2019 Steel and Composite Structures, An International J Vol.33 No.5

In this paper, wave propagations in sigmoid functionally graded (S-FG) plates are studied using new Higher Shear Deformation Theory (HSDT) based on two-dimensional (2D) elasticity theory. The current higher order theory has only four unknowns, which mean that few numbers of unknowns, compared with first shear deformations and others higher shear deformations theories and without needing shear corrector. The material properties of sigmoid functionally graded are assumed to vary through thickness according sigmoid model. The S-FG plates are supposed to be imperfect, which means that they have a porous distribution (even and uneven) through the thickness of these plates. The governing equations of S-FG plates are derived employed Hamilton's principle. Using technique of Navier, differential equations of S-FG in terms displacements are solved. Extensive results are presented to check the efficient of present methods to predict wave dispersion and velocity wave in S-FG plates.

Measurement of infinite dilution activity coefficients of selected environmentally important volatile organic compounds in polydimethylsiloxane using gas - liquid chromatography

Edison Muzenda,Mohamed Belaid,Freeman Ntuli 한국화학공학회 2010 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.27 No.5

Silicon oil, chemically known as polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS), is a high boiling point solvent highly suitable for volatile organic compounds (VOCs) absorption. To use PDMS as an absorption solvent for a specific waste gas problem, it is important to determine the infinite dilution activity coefficients of the VOCs to be separated with PDMS. This work reports activity coefficients at infinite dilution of 13 VOCs in polydimethysiloxane determined by the dynamic gas liquid chromatographic technique. The measurements were carried out at various temperatures (303.15,313.15, 323.15., 333.15, 353.15, 373.15, 393.15 and 423.15 K). Four PDMS polymers with average molecular weight ranging from 760 to 13,000 were used as solvents. A control column packed by Perkin Elmer to our specifications was used to validate the coating and packing methods. Flow rate dependence of the elution peaks was also investigated by varying it from 10-50 ml/min. Precision was improved by reproducing the results using columns with different liquid loading, thus also studying the retention mechanism. The results compare well with the data from previous work using simple headspace and UNIFAC predictions and literature values. The successful comparison gives an indication of the GLC as a rapid, simple and accurate method for studying the thermodynamics of the interaction of a volatile solute with a nonvolatile solvent.

      • Experimental and numerical prediction of the weakened zone of a ceramic bonded to a metal

        Zaoui, Bouchra,Baghdadi, Mohammed,Mechab, Belaid,Serier, Boualem,Belhouari, Mohammed Techno-Press 2019 Advances in materials research Vol.8 No.4

In this study, a three-dimensional Finite Element Model has been developed to estimate the size of the weakened zone in a bi-material a ceramic bonded to metal. The calculations results were compared to those obtained using Scanning Electron Microscope (SEM). In the case of elastic-plastic behaviour of the structure, it has been shown that the simulation results are coherent with the experimental findings. This indicates that Finite Element modeling allows an accurate prediction and estimation of the weakening effect of residual stresses on the bonding interface of Alumina. The obtained results show us that the three-dimensional numerical simulation used by the Finite Element Method, allows a good prediction of the weakened zone extent of a ceramic, which is bonded with a metal.

Current Park’s Vector Pattern Technique for Diagnosis of Broken Rotor Bars Fault in Saturated Induction Motor

        Abdellah Chaouch,Mama Chouitek,Meflah Abderrahmane Mohamed Reda,Mohammed Belaid 대한전기학회 2023 Journal of Electrical Engineering & Technology Vol.18 No.4

The squirrel cage induction motor is considered to be one of the most important types of motors used in industries. An unexpected failure can lead to unwanted downtime and heavy financial losses to the industries regarding maintenance cost and profits. This paper deals with the problem of broken rotor bars fault diagnosis in saturated induction motor. Several techniques such as those based on vibration, axial leakage monitoring, zero-sequence component, negative sequence current, and motor current signature analysis have been used. However, these techniques do not take into account the effect of magnetic saturation. This paper presents a current Park’s Vector method for diagnosis in squirrel cage induction motor with the presence of magnetic saturation. The use of a current vector pattern demonstrates that deformation of the Current Park’s Vector Pattern trajectory and increasing diameter are indicators for predicting magnetic saturation and broken bars rotor fault. Our experimental results allow us to discriminate between the magnetic saturation in healthy and faulty squirrel cage induction motors.
