Lee, Sang Ha,Lee, Jeong Hun,Nam, Dong Ho,Cho, Misuk,Kim, Jaehoon,Chanthad, Chalathorn,Lee, Youngkwan American Chemical Society 2018 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.10 No.19

Polymeric binder is extremely important for Si-based anode in lithium-ion batteries due to large volume variation during charging/discharging process. Here, natural rubber-incorporated chitosan networks were designed as a binder material to obtain both adhesion and elasticity. Chitosan could strongly anchor Si particles through hydrogen bonding, while the natural rubber could stretch reversibly during the volume variation of Si particles, resulting in high cyclic performance. The prepared electrode exhibited the specific capacities of 1350 mAh/g after 1600 cycles at the current density of 8 A/g and 2310 mAh/g after 500 cycles at the current density of 1 A/g. Furthermore, the cycle test with limiting lithiation capacity was conducted to study the optimal binder properties at varying degree of the volume expansion of silicon, and it was found that the elastic property of binder material was strongly required when the large volume expansion of Si occurred.
[FIG OMISSION]

Background: Oaks are the most common trees in Korean forests, and Mongolian oak, Quercus mongolica, is the dominant species. However, no allergen has been characterized from Mongolian oak. In this study, we tried to characterize a major allergen from Mongolian oak. Methods: A molecule homologous to pathogenesis-related 10 (PR-10)-like protein, Que m 1, was cloned by RT-PCR. Its recombinant protein, along with Que a 1, an allergen from white oak (Q. alba), was produced. The allergenicity and diagnostic value of recombinant Que m 1, Que a 1, and Bet v 1 proteins were compared by ELISA using sera from oak-sensitized subjects. A basophil activation test was also performed using CD63 expression as an activation marker. Results: Que m 1 sequence shares 57.5-96.2% amino acid sequence identity with PR-10-like allergens from various plants. Specific IgE to recombinant Que m 1, Que a 1, and Bet v 1 were detected in 92.0, 74.0, and 38.0% of 50 serum samples from Korean tree pollinosis patients. Recombinant Que m 1 was able to inhibit IgE reactivity to Que a 1 and Bet v 1, indicating its strong cross-reactivity. The activation patterns of basophils from 5 patients were similar in terms of the CD63 expression and protein concentration of challenged Bet v 1 and Que m 1. Conclusions: A major allergen, Que m 1, was cloned, and its recombinant protein was produced from Mongolian oak, a dominant species in Korea. Recombinant Que m 1 is potentially useful for the diagnosis and treatment of tree pollinosis in Korea.

Crosslinked Gel Polymer Electrolytes for Si Anodes in Li-Ion Batteries
Lee, Jeong Hun,Kim, Soochan,Cho, Misuk,Chanthad, Chalathorn,Lee, Youngkwan The Electrochemical Society 2019 Journal of the Electrochemical Society Vol.166 No.13

Gel polymer electrolyte (GPE) membrane was prepared by the facile amine-epoxy crosslinking reaction of poly(ethylene glycol)diglycidylether (PEGDE) with diamino-poly(propylene oxide) (DPPO) and subsequent immersion in 1 M LiPF6 solution. To apply GPE for Si anode in a Li-ion battery, the physical properties were optimized by the degree of crosslinking which was controlled by molecular weight of each part. The crosslinked GPE membrane composed of PEGDE(1,000 g mol−1) and DPPO (4,000 g mol−1) exhibited desirable dimensional stability, low electrical resistance, adequate ionic conductivity of 1.0 mS cm−1 at 25°C. The Si anode cell employing this GPE exhibited enhanced battery performance of 2,434 mAhg−1 and 80% cyclic retention after 100 cycles. The well-optimized cGPE with desirable physical properties could resolve the issues of safety and stability resulted from volume expansion of Si as well as Li dendrite formation.

Abstract

The effects of ZnO particle size on crosslinking and thermal aging behavior of natural rubber (NR) were investigated. NR vulcanizates filled with nano ZnO allowed higher crosslink density, lower polysulfide crosslink, and stronger mechanical properties than those filled with micro ZnO. After thermal aging, NR filled with nano ZnO exhibited much more stable chemical and mechanical properties. The high crosslink density as well as the formation of more stable mono- and di-sulfidic crosslinks was attributed to the good dispersion and high surface area of the nano ZnO.

Highlights

The effects of ZnO particle size on crosslinking and thermal aging of natural rubber (NR) were investigated.

High crosslink density as well as the formation of more stable crosslinks was attributed to high surface area of nano ZnO.

NR vulcanizates with nano ZnO exhibited high retention of mechanical properties after thermal aging.

INTERPRETABLE MACHINE LEARNING FOR CHOICE BEHAVIOR MODELING
Misuk Lee 글로벌지식마케팅경영학회 2023 Global Marketing Conference Vol.2023 No.07
While machine learning has gained popularity in choice behavior modeling, most machine learning models are often complex, difficult to interpret, and even considered as black box. This study investigates machine learning methods for choice behavior modeling that provide interpretability of models’ output. We explore various approaches including (1) explicitly descriptive models such as tree-based models, (2) interpretation of predictive models through feature importance measures, and (3) recent advancements in prediction explanation methods such as LIME and SHAP (Shapley Additive exPlanations). We demonstrate the methods on consumers’ airport choice behavior in Seoul metropolitan area. Through the comparative analysis with traditional discrete choice models, we discuss advantages as well as limitations of machine learning models in consumer choice behavior modeling.
Geometry-Controllable Graphene Layers and Their Application for Supercapacitors
Lee, Soojeong,Lee, Sang Ha,Kim, Tae Hyung,Cho, Misuk,Yoo, Ji Bum,Kim, Tae-il,Lee, Youngkwan American Chemical Society 2015 ACS APPLIED MATERIALS & INTERFACES Vol.7 No.15

A facile and ultrafast method for geometry controllable and vertically transformative 3D graphene architectures is demonstrated. The 2D stacked graphene layers produced by exfoliation of graphite were transformed, e.g., from horizontal to vertical, by applying electric charge (-2 V with 1-3 μAh/cm2). The three-dimensionally transformed graphene layers have maximized surface area as well as high specific capacitance, 410 F g(-1) in LiClO4/PC electrolyte, which is 4.4 times higher than that of planar (stacked) graphene layers. Furthermore, they can remarkably exhibit 87% of retained capacitance as the scan rate is increased from 100 to 1000 mV s(-1), unlike planar graphene, which displays 61% retention under the same conditions.

How a Convergence Product Affects Related Markets: The Case of the Mobile Phone
Misuk Lee,이종수,Youngsang Cho 한국전자통신연구원 2009 ETRI Journal Vol.31 No.2
Analyzing the diffusion of a convergence product is a new and challenging research field. It is very difficult to find research dealing with this issue due to the inherent complexity and lack of data. In analyzing the diffusion of a convergence product, we should simultaneously take into account its relationship with related single-function products because of their similarities in terms of technology and functionality. In this study, we empirically analyze the diffusion of the convergence mobile phones in South Korea and find that the convergence products can affect the diffusion of MP3 players and digital cameras positively or negatively. This research may be significant for business strategies in technology management and product development.

Here, we introduce a layered hollow sphere (LHS) architecture of iridium -decorated carbon electrode. The electrode was prepared by coating of a solution composed of graphene oxide (GO), IrC1(3), and polystyrene bead followed by subsequent pyrolysis. The morphology of the electrode was investigated according to the composition of solution, and the electrocatalytic properties were characterized. The usage of GO highly enhanced the electrochemical surface area of the electrode (by similar to 6 times). The LHS electrode also showed outstanding electrocatalytic properties: a current density of 89.99 mA/cm(2) could be obtained at a potential of 1.6 V. (C)2017 Elsevier Ltd. All rights reserved.
