CONDITIONS IMPLYING CONTINUITY OF MAPS
Baran, Mehmet,Kula, Muammer,Erciyes, Ayhan Korean Mathematical Society 2009 대한수학회지 Vol.46 No.4
In this paper, we generalize the notions of preserving and strongly preserving maps to arbitrary set based topological categories. Further, we obtain characterizations of each of these concepts as well as interprete analogues and generalizations of theorems of Gerlits at al [20] in the categories of filter and local filter convergence spaces.
Strengthening of deficient RC frames with high strength concrete panels: an experimental study
Baran, Mehmet,Susoy, Melih,Tankut, Tugrul Techno-Press 2011 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.37 No.2
An economic, structurally effective and practically applicable strengthening technique was developed for reinforced concrete (RC) framed buildings. The idea of the technique is to convert the existing hollow brick infill wall into a load carrying system acting as a cast-in-place RC infill wall by bonding relatively thin high strength precast concrete PC panels to the plastered hollow brick infill. For this purpose, a total of eight one-third scale, one bay, one story frames were tested under reversed-cyclic lateral loads. Test frames were designed and constructed with common deficiencies observed in practice. Four different panel types were used for strengthening. Test results showed that both strength and stiffness of the frames were significantly improved by the introduction of PC panels. Experimental results were compared with the analytical approaches suggested by the authors.

Effects of binding agents in the production of SiC ceramic foam filters with replica method
Mehmet Bugdayci,Gizem Baran 한양대학교 세라믹연구소 2021 Journal of Ceramic Processing Research Vol.22 No.5
In this study, casting filter production parameters were investigated by coating SiC with superior mechanical and chemicalproperties on polyurethane sponge. Many methods in which SiC filters are produced have been researched and consideringits simple applicability, the replication method has been chosen as the production method. In the experiments, polyurethanesponges with different porosities were coated with varying proportions of water, bentonite, gum arabic and SiC, and thensubjected to pyrolysis and sintering. The characterization of the samples was carried out by weight loss, compression test,Archimedes scale and SEM methods. According to the test results, the highest weight loss was obtained with 46% by adding30 mL of water into 30 ppi polyurethane sponge. In the sintering tests, the highest strength was obtained with the value of 472kPa in the experiment performed at 1,450 ºC. The same sample gave the optimum result with a density of 3.101 g/cm3 andporosity of 1.24%. At the end of the study, the samples produced successfully were used in the real casting process and it wasobserved that they were effective in filtering.
Deflections of reinforced concrete beams with transverse openings of different geometries
Ilker Kalkan,Ece Ceylan,Saruhan Kartal,Mehmet Baran 국제구조공학회 2021 Structural Engineering and Mechanics, An Int'l Jou Vol.80 No.3
The present study pertains to the in-plane bending deflections of reinforced concrete beams with multiple regular transverse openings along the beam length. The total deflections in the beam were obtained from bending deflections and the additional deflections from the Vierendeel panel action. The accuracy of the deflection estimates from the proposed formula were observed to depend on the opening geometry. Among different geometries, the presence of rectangular and parallelogram web openings resulted in the experimental deflections to deviate more considerably from the analytical values due to the stress concentrations around the corners of the openings. Consequently, a multiplier was incorporated into the deflection formula to account for the opening geometry. The new revised formula was found to generate analytical load-deflection curves in close agreement with the experimental ones and service-load deflections close to the FEA values of beams with varying amount of tension reinforcement. The diagonal reinforcement around the openings and the short stirrups in the posts and chords increased the accuracy of the analytical deflection estimates by reducing the undesired additional deformations in the beam due to the poorer integrity of the posts and chords around the openings.
