Synthesis of new heteroleptic strontium complexes
George, Sheby Mary,Kim, Hyo-Suk,Lah, Myoung Soo,Park, Bo Keun,Kim, Chang Gyoun,Chung, Taek-Mo The Royal Society of Chemistry 2014 Dalton Transactions Vol.43 No.38
<P>A series of heteroleptic strontium complexes (<B>1–9</B>) using a combination of different aminoalkoxides and 2,2,6,6-tetramethyl-3,5-heptanedionate (tmhd) were prepared to examine the effect of the bulkiness and coordination ability of the aminoalkoxide ligand in these complexes as well as potential strontium precursors. All complexes were characterized by FT-IR, FT-NMR, elemental analyses, and thermo-gravimetric (TG) analyses. The crystal structure analyses of <B>1</B>, <B>2</B>, <B>4</B>, and <B>5</B> demonstrate their stability in the dimer form and the unwillingness of the strontium atom to form more than six coordination bonds in these complexes. The complex <B>5</B> shows an unusual picture: the existence of one hexa-coordinated and one penta-coordinated strontium atom side by side in its dimer structure. The introduction of ether groups as coordination sites in complexes <B>6–9</B> led to a decrease in steric hindrance which resulted in the formation of the complex <B>7</B> as a tetramer. The complex <B>7</B> shows a unique Sr4O4 cubane core where oxygen atoms undergo μ3-bridging between strontium atoms. The TG analyses show that the complexes exhibit a step-wise decomposition character, with the major mass losses in the region 150–400 °C.</P> <P>Graphic Abstract</P><P>Synthesis of heteroleptic strontium complexes containing aminoalkoxide and β-diketonate ligands was demonstrated. <IMG SRC='http://pubs.rsc.org/services/images/RSCpubs.ePlatform.Service.FreeContent.ImageService.svc/ImageService/image/GA?id=c4dt00689e'> </P>
Registration of BBNJ Research Activities: A Move towards Transparency in Research Governance
Mary George,Anneliz R. George 이준국제법연구원 2018 Journal of East Asia and International Law Vol.11 No.1
The Prep Com recommended in July that the UNGA initiate a negotiating conference on areas beyond national jurisdiction. It is widely expected to make such a decision. Then, the long haul negotiation will begin. The 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea does not regulate marine genetic resources in areas beyond the national jurisdiction of States (BBNJ). Part XIII of the Convention could accommodate BBNJ research, but not its governance. The triangulation of three factors-the interim absence of an international framework for governance of BBNJ research, an indirect reference to this issue in the on-going BBNJ deliberations on access and benefit sharing and an interim laissez-faire attitude in BBNJ exploration and exploitation-leads to a need for transparency in governance of BBNJ research activities. To address this lacuna, a United Nations Register on BBNJ Research Activities is recommended, encouraging scientists from all regions including Asia to engage in BBNJ research.

In today’s globalized world, there is no transparency in exchanging data and information between producers and consumers. However, these tasks experience many challenges, such as administrative barriers, confidential data leakage, and extensive time delays. To overcome these challenges, we propose a decentralized, secured, and verified smart chain framework using Ethereum Smart Contract which employs Inter Planetary File Systems (IPFS) and MongoDB as storage systems to automate the process and exchange information into blocks using the Tendermint algorithm. The proposed work promotes complete traceability of the product, ensures data integrity and transparency in addition to providing security to their personal information using the Lelantos mode of shipping. The Tendermint algorithm helps to speed up the process of validating and authenticating the transaction quickly. More so in this time of pandemic, it is easier to meet the needs of customers through the Ethermint Smart Chain, which increases customer satisfaction, thus boosting their confidence. Moreover, Smart contracts help to exploit more international transaction services and provide an instant block time finality of around 5 sec using Ethermint. The paper concludes with a description of product storage and distribution adopting the Ethermint technique. The proposed system was executed based on the Ethereum-Tendermint Smart chain. Experiments were conducted on variable block sizes and the number of transactions. The experimental results indicate that the proposed system seems to perform better than existing blockchain-based systems. Two configuration files were used, the first one was to describe the storage part, including its topology. The second one was a modified file to include the test rounds that Caliper should execute, including the running time and the workload content. Our findings indicate this is a promising technology for food supply chain storage and distribution.

The transseptal approach to the maxillary sinus has been described for resection of extensive tumours of the nose and paranasal sinuses. We describe a modification of this method in a patient diagnosed with inverted papilloma for which he had undergone two previous operations. This method provides complete access to the maxillary sinus, particularly the anterior wall, to provide adequate reach and ensure complete removal of tumours. We describe a technique modifying the existing transseptal approach used as an adjunct to prelacrimal recess approach, wherein a hemitransfixation incision placed in the contralateral nasal cavity along the septum provides access to the maxillary sinus with angled instruments. This modified transseptal approach provided better reach and access to the maxillary sinus. Postoperatively, there was no evidence of septal scarring or perforation and no evidence of lesion recurrence. Our technique is an easy modification to the transseptal approach that is a useful tool to access hidden areas of the maxillary sinus without associated morbidity.
