Low-Complexity Bit to Symbol Mapper for VLC Systems with Generalized Spatial Modulation

This paper presents a bit-symbol mapper for visible light communication (VLC) systems with generalized spatial modulation (GSM). The novel mapper includes two main steps that at the beginning, order the GSM symbol pairs by their Euclidean distances. Consequently, the presented mapper iteratively assigns the GSM symbols to the specific sequences of the bit. More specifically, we propose a low-complexity arranging method that can be employed to acquire an interesting mapper algorithm. The simulation result demonstrates that the presented Euclidean distance-based mapper can achieve significant performance gains in comparison with the conventional mapper for MIMO VLC systems with GSM.
