This paper presents a method of predicting the hardness of the cold forgings by finite-element based computer simulation. An experimental approach to finding out the relationship between the effective strain and the hardness is also given. It has been shown experimentally that the Vickers hardness distribution of SCR420H cold-forged steel parts has the distinct relationship with the effective strain distribution predicted by the finite-element method. Based on the relationship, finite-element based hardness prediction is successfully carried out and the predicted hardness is compared with tested one.
Al-Si 합금 열간단조품 내부의 판상 결함의 초음파 특성

본 연구에서는 Al-Si 합금 열간단조품 내부 판상 결함을 탐지하기 위한 초음파평가 기법을 확립하였다. 이를 위하여 내부에 존재하는 여러 가지 판상 결함의 초음파 특성을 실험적으로 구하였으며, 펄스-반사법을 적응하여 초음파 탐상신호에 대한 내부 판상 결함의 각도 등이 초음파 수신신호의 형태에 미치는 영향을 평가하였다. 한편 결함위치에 따른 초음파 신호특성을 규명하기 위하여 단조품 가장자리 부위에 존재하는 내부 판상 결함의 초음파 수신신호 특성을 평가하였으며, 본 시험편에 대한 초음파 투과법 적용 한계에 대하여 고찰하였다. 나아가 500개 이상의 파단 실험을 통해 제시된 초음파 평가기법의 신뢰성을 확인하였다. A nondestructive evaluation technique for detecting internal defects of an hot forged Al-Si allyoy part is established in this study. Ultrasonic characteristics of various internal planar defects are investigated by experiments for establishing a reliable test procedure. The effect of the angle between ultrasonic energy propagation directions and planar defects on the ultrasonic signal configuration is evaluated in the pulse-echo technique. A characteristic of ultrasonic signal for the internal planar defect located near the edge is also evaluated. The applicability of the through-transmission technique is also discussed. Reliability of the presented approach is validated by the destructive testing for more than 50 specimens.

In this paper, a new design of the sprinkler branch outlet for fire-extinguishing purposes is presented together with its manufacturing process. The conventional three-piece design is improved by a new one-piece design with the help of the manufacturing technology of cold forging. The forging process is simulated and optimized by the rigid-plastic finite element method and the design tryouts are thus minimized. It has been shown through its applications that the presented system is much more economical and structurally stronger.

During a galvannealed sheet metal forming, the failures of coating layers (powdering, flaking and cracking) frequently affect the strain state of sheets and deteriorate the frictional characteristic between sheets and tools. Two FE-models in this study were suggested to investigate the effects of the mechanical behavior of coating layers on the formability and friction of the coated steel sheets in FE analysis; the first is one-layer model to express the coated sheet as one stress-strain curve and the second is a multiple-layer model which is composed of substrates and coating layers, separately. First, the frictional properties and the formability of the coated sheets were experimentally investigated using a cup deep-drawing trial. After, the drawing process was simulated by FE analysis of the two models. In the multiplelayer model, the mechanical behavior of the coating is defined as a stress-strain curve which was determined using the nanoindentation test of the coating, its FE analysis and artificial neural network method. The result showed that the multiple-layer model provides more accuracy predictions of drawing loads than the one-layer model in the FE analysis, compared to the actual cup drawing test.

A forging simulator, POSFORM, for automatic computer simulation of two-dimensional and axisymmetric forging processes was introduced in this paper. POSFORM is characterized by solution accuracy, user-friendliness, applicability and extensibility. Basic principles and capabilities of the program were introduced. Several application examples found in several cold or hot forging companies of automotive or mechanical parts were also given.
무기바인더에 따른 Aluminum Borate Whisker프리폼의 압축강도에 관한 연구

Performs of composite materials were made from aluminum borate whisker with 1%, 3%, and 5% regulated three kinds of inorganic binders, SiO₂ sol, TiO₂ sol and Al₂O₃ sol and then sintered in 1000℃ and 1100℃. The compressive strengths of those performs were examined and the status of adhesions were investigated by SEM with the results of the compressive strengths depending on the kinds of inorganic binders and the sintering temperatures. The results obtained will be used as fundamental data of the squeeze casting in future.

A single-stage, precision, symmetrical L-bending process is developed, which employs a forming-load control die for progressive sheet-metal forming of a circuit-breaker. It is targeted to replace the traditional two-stage symmetrical L-bending process, which features rough bending followed by fi ne sizing/adjustment to meet the required geometrical tolerances. The new process requires optimization since the die controls springback caused by the pressing load imparted to the shoulder by the same die. The Taguchi method is thus used to optimize the process design using an elastoplastic finite element method in terms of the tilt angle after springback and the leg length of the resulting bent region. The finite element predictions of the optimized process are in excellent agreement with the experimental data and there are no cases of failure.
