      • Animal Intrusion Detection in Farming Area using YOLOv5 Approach

        Normaisharah Mamat,Mohd Fauzi Othman,Fitri Yakub 제어로봇시스템학회 2022 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2022 No.11

Animal intrusion in the farming area causes significant losses in agriculture. It threatens not only the safety of farmers but also contributes to crop damage. Providing effective solutions for human-animals conflict is now one of the most significant challenges all over the world. Therefore, early detection of animal intrusion via automated methods is essential. Recent deep learning-based methods have become popular in solving these problems by generating high detection ability. In this study, the YOLOv5 method is proposed to detect four categories of animals commonly involved in farming intrusion areas. YOLOv5 can generate high accuracy in detection using cross stage partial network (CSP) as a backbone. This network is employed to extract the beneficial characteristics from an input image. The results of the implementation of this method show that it can detect animal intrusion very effectively and improve the accuracy of detection by nearly 94% mAP. The results demonstrate that the proposed models meet and reach state-of-the-art results for these problems.

      • Average Analysis Method in Selecting Haralick’s Texture Features on Color Co-occurrence Matrix for Texture Based Image Retrieval

Abd Rasid Mamat,Mohd Khalid Awang,Norkhairani Abdul Rawi,Mohd. Isa Awang,Mohd Fadzil Abdul Kadir 보안공학연구지원센터 2016 International Journal of Multimedia and Ubiquitous Vol.11 No.2

Many textures based image retrieval researchers use global texture features for representing and retrieval of images from an image database. However, this leads to misrepresentation of local information leading to the inefficient image retrieval performance. This paper presents an approach to overcome the problem. The approach focuses on extracting local Haralick’s texture feature based on a predetermined region using the color co-occurrence matrix method, the selection of the ‘significant’ Haralik’s texture features and evaluation of the performance of the combination of the ‘significant’ features. The proposed method which is an Average Analysis and a well known method, Principal Component Analysis were applied to obtain ‘significant’ features. In order to compare the performance, a series of experiments were carried out for both methods, which is the proposed Average Analysis and the Principal Component Analysis. Experiments were performed on a 1000 selected images from the Coral image database which were divided into ten categories. Based on the experimental results, it is interesting to note that for the combination ‘significant’ features obtained from the proposed Average Analysis showed better retrieval performance compared to the Principal Component Analysis for almost all categories. This finding has an important implication in deciding the correct combination of ‘significant’ features for certain image properties. It has shown that the proposed method is able to produce less computational processing time due to a reduced amount of processing involved. The result is also compared to the previous researches and has shown an increase of an average precision from 8.5% to 26%.

A NEW CLASS OF NONLINEAR CONJUGATE GRADIENT METHOD FOR UNCONSTRAINED OPTIMIZATION MODELS AND ITS APPLICATION IN PORTFOLIO SELECTION

        Maulana Malik,Ibrahim Mohammed Sulaiman,Mustafa Mamat,Siti Sabariah Abas,Sukono 경남대학교 기초과학연구소 2021 Nonlinear Functional Analysis and Applications Vol.26 No.4

In this paper, we propose a new conjugate gradient method for solving unconstrained optimization models. By using exact and strong Wolfe line searches, the proposed method possesses the sufficient descent condition and global convergence properties. Numerical results show that the proposed method is efficient at small, medium, and large dimensions for the given test functions. In addition, the proposed method was applied to solve practical application problems in portfolio selection.

      • Dynamic characterisation of a two-link flexible manipulator: theory and experiments

        Khairudin, M.,Mohamed, Z.,Husain, A.R.,Mamat, R. Techno-Press 2014 Advances in robotics research Vol.1 No.1

This paper presents theoretical and experimental investigations into the dynamic modelling and characterisation of a two-link flexible manipulator incorporating payload. A planar two-link flexible manipulator that moves in a horizontal plane is considered. A dynamic model of the system is developed using a combined Euler-Lagrange and assumed mode methods, and simulated using Matlab. Experiments are performed on a lab-scaled two-link flexible manipulator for validation of the dynamic model and characterisation of the system. Two system responses namely hub angular position and deflection responses at both links are obtained and analysed in time and frequency domains. The effects of payload on the dynamic characteristics of the flexible manipulator are also studied and discussed. The results show that a close agreement between simulation and experiments is achieved demonstrating an acceptable accuracy of the developed model.

An exploratory study on the challenges faced and coping strategies used by preclinical medical students during the COVID-19 crisis

Chong Pek Sam,Norul Hidayah Mamat,Vishna Devi Nadarajah 한국의학교육학회 2022 Korean journal of medical education Vol.34 No.2

Purpose: The impact of the coronavirus disease 2019 crisis on medical education includes reduced clinical training, a significant loss of learning time and a probable decline in confidence of being a doctor. These recent changes will have significant effect on the well-being of medical students and interventional support needs to be given early. This study explores the challenges faced and coping strategies used by preclinical medical students during the crisis. Methods: A qualitative study involving 13 preclinical medical students was conducted between August and September 2020 at a medical school in Malaysia. An in-depth individual interview via Microsoft Teams (Microsoft Corp.) with semi-structured questions was conducted. The recorded interview data were thematically analyzed using the six phases of Braun and Clarke’s Thematic Analysis. Results: The challenges faced were identified under three themes: psychosocial impact of lockdown, significant lifestyle changes, and impact on professional progression. Meanwhile, four themes emerged in coping strategies that include behavioral strategies, re-appraisal of the uncertainties of situation, active coping mechanisms, and regulation of emotion with coping reserve. There are indications that personality traits determine strategies to cope with challenges faced during the crisis which may either lead to resilience building or experiencing burnout. Conclusion: The findings of the study highlighted the urgent need to develop early preventive and intervention strategies to address the mental health of medical students to mitigate stress and promote positive well-being in times of crisis.

      • Effect of chloroform extract of traditional Dicranopteris linearis leaves against paracetamol- and CCl4-induced liver toxicity in rats

        Syafawati Shamsahal Din,Siti Syariah Mamat,Noor Aisyah Ismail,Wan Noraziemah Wan Zainulddin,Zalina Zabidi,Farhana Yahya,Farah Hidayah Kamisan,Norhafizah Mohtarrudin,Fezah Othman,Zarizal Suhaili,Zainul 셀메드 세포교정의약학회 2012 TANG Vol.2 No.4

The present study aimed to determine the hepatoprotective activity of the chloroform extract of D. linearis leaves (CEDL) using the paracetamol (PCM)- and carbon tetrachloride (CCl4)-induced liver injury models in rats. The rats received dH2O (negative control), 200 mg/kg of silymarin (positive control) or CEDL (50, 250 and 500 mg/kg) orally once daily for 7 days and then were subjected to the hepatotoxic induction on the 7th day. The samples (i.e. blood and liver) were collected and underwent biochemical and microscopical analysis, respectively. From the data obtained, both inducers caused significant (p < 0.05) increase in the levels of AST and ALT when compared to the control group, which were significantly (p < 0.05) reduced by CEDL in a generally dose-dependent manner. These biochemical findings were supported by the histopathological analysis and histological scoring. In conclusion, CEDL possesses potential hepatoprotective activity, which could be associated with its flavonoid and tannin contents with the mechanisms of hepatoprotection linked to either its antioxidant or anti-inflammtory /immunomodulating activities. Further in-depth studies are required to identify the responsible bioactive compound.

Nonenzymatic Glucose Biosensor Based on NiNPs/Nafion/graphene Film for Direct Glucose Determination in Human Serum

        Parviz Sukhrobov,Sodik Numonov,Sanshuang Gao,Xamxikamar Mamat,Thomas Wagberg,Yufen Guo,Liwei Liu,Guangzhi Hu 성균관대학교(자연과학캠퍼스) 성균나노과학기술원 2018 NANO Vol.13 No.7

This study describes a type of novel nickel nanoparticles (NiNPs) decorated on Nafion-graphene composite film by using the electrochemical deposition method. It was used to fabricate electrochemical biosensors for sensitive nonenzymatic glucose detection. Compared with the Nafion–graphene film and NiNPs-modified glassy carbon electrode (NiNPs-GCE), the NiNPs/Nafion/graphene/GCE showed the best electrocatalytic activity towards glucose oxidation in alkaline medium. The NiNPs/Nafion/graphene/GCE at an applied potential of +0.55V in a linear range of 1–200 μM presented a high sensitivity of 3437.25 μA·mM -1 cm -2 with coefficient of correlation R2 = 0.999; and in a linear range of 200–10 800 μM it performed the best sensitivity of 2848.6 μA·mM -1 cm -2 with coefficient of correlation R2 = 0.995 towards glucose oxidation. For a concentration up to 200 M, a linear range was obtained with a limit of detection of 0.6 μM (signal to noise = 3) and as much as 10 800 μM with a limit of detection of 0.82 μM (signal to noise = 3). The time of responses was about 1–1.5 s with the addition of 0.1–1mM glucose. In addition, NiNPs/Nafion/graphene/GCE also has a high anti-interference ability toward common oxidative interfering species, such as uric acid, ascorbic acid and dopamine. More importantly, NiNPs/Nafion/graphene/GCE was successfully used for the determination of glucose concentration in human serum samples in comparison with a local hospital. The NiNPs/Nafion/graphene/GCE exhibited high sensitivity, low working potential, good stability, excellent electrical properties, enhanced selectivity and fast amperometric responses to glucose oxidation. Thus, as a nonenzymatic sensor, it is promising for future glucose determination development.
