A process for controlling the size of Single-walled carbon nanotubes (SWCNTs) sorting was achieved by combining various centrifugation speeds with polypyrimidine’s properties of dispersion and release SWCNTs upon acid treatment. At first, the SWCNTs wrapped by polypyrimidine were sperated into different size by centrifugating at various speeds. Then, these size-selected hybrids were treated with H2SO4 (98 %) to release free SWCNTs from hybrids, meanwhile the copolymer was collected for reuse. The purity of the released size-controlled SWCNTs was found to be higher than the commercial SWCNTs. The simple synthetic procedure of the copolymer, the low cost of H2SO4 and low centrifugation speed allow the process of size-controlled SWCNTs sorting to more practical applications and industrial scaling up.
Compact localized states and flat-band generators in one dimension
Maimaiti, Wulayimu,Andreanov, Alexei,Park, Hee Chul,Gendelman, Oleg,Flach, Sergej American Physical Society 2017 Physical Review B Vol.95 No.11

Flat bands (FB) are strictly dispersionless bands in the Bloch spectrum of a periodic lattice Hamiltonian, recently observed in a variety of photonic and dissipative condensate networks. FB Hamiltonians are fine-tuned networks, still lacking a comprehensive generating principle. We introduce a FB generator based on local network properties. We classify FB networks through the properties of compact localized states (CLS) which are exact FB eigenstates and occupy U unit cells. We obtain the complete two-parameter FB family of two-band d = 1 networks with nearest unit cell interaction and U = 2. We discover a novel high symmetry sawtooth chain with identical hoppings in a transverse dc field, easily accessible in experiments. Our results pave the way towards a complete description of FBs in networks with more bands and in higher dimensions.

A Highly Selective and Sensitive Fluorescent Turn-Off Probe for Al3+ Based on Polypyrimidine
Yuemaierjiang Maimaiti,Xieraili Maimaitiyiming 한국섬유공학회 2020 Fibers and polymers Vol.21 No.1
The polyfluorene copolymers with different pyrimidine content has been synthesized and characterized by1HNMR, 13CNMR and FT-IR spectrum. The aggregation, acidochromicity, and metallochromicity of copolymers has beeninvestigated. The pyrimidine content of polymer has great affect in acidochromic properties for methanesulfonic acid (MSA)and selectivity for Al3+. The colour change of copolymer/Al3+ complexes can be detected by the naked eye. The copolymersare found to be good linearly proportional to the concentration of Al3+ ions in a range from 1.0×10-6 to 1.0×10-3 M with adetection limit of 1.895×10-8 M. The binding constant of the copolymer/Al3+ complexes was calculated using Benesi-Hildebrand equation and was found to be 8.95×105 M-1. The XPS spectroscopy, SEM micrograph and the EDS analysisreveal that the metal ion coordination occurs on the pyrimidine ring in the copolymers. This copolymer will be widely usedfor detection of protons and metals as fluorescent sensors.

Recently multiferroic materials have attract great interest for the applications on memorial, spintronic and magneto-electric sensor devices for their spontaneous magneto-electric coupling properties. Research and development of the various kinds of multiferroics are indispensable factor for a new generation multifunctional materials. In this research, mechanical, electronic, magnetic and nonlinear optical properties of La modified BiLaFe2O6 (BLFO) and Mn modified Bi2FeMnO6 (BFMO) were studied as new members of multiferroic BiFeO3 (BFO) series by first-principles calculations, and compared with the pure BFO to discover the optimized properties. Our results show that BLFO and BFMO have good mechanical stability as revealed by elastic constants that satisfy the stability criteria. All these compounds exhibit anisotropic and ductile nature. The enhanced properties by La and Mn substitution, such as increased hardness, improved magnetism, decreased band gap and comparable second harmonic generation responses reveal that the new multiferroic members of BLFO and BFMO would get wider application than their BFO counterpart. Our study is expected to providing an appropriate mechanical reference data as guidance for engineering of high efficiency multifunctional devices with the BFO series.

Background: Some 60 years after introduction of the Papanicolaou smear worldwide, cervical cancer remains a burden in developing countries where >85% of world new cases and deaths occur, suggesting a failure to establish comprehensive cervical-cancer control programs. Effective interventions are available to control cervical cancer but are not all affordable in low-income settings. Disease awareness saves lives by risk-reduction as witnessed in reducing mortality of HIV/AIDS and smoking-related cancers. Subjects and Methods: We initiated a community-based awareness program on cervical cancer in two low-income Muslim Uyghur townships in Kashi (Kashgar) Prefecture, Xinjiang, China in 2008. The education involved more than 5,000 women from two rural townships and awareness was then evaluated in 2010 and 2011, respectively, using a questionnaire with 10 basic knowledge questions on cervical cancer. Demographic information was also collected and included in an EpiData database. A 10-point scoring system was used to score the awareness. Results: The effectiveness and feasibility of the program were evaluated among 4,475 women aged 19-70 years, of whom >92% lived on/below US$1.00/day. Women without prior education showed a poor average awareness rate of 6.4% (164/2,559). A onetime education intervention, however, sharply raised the awareness rate by 4-fold to 25.5% (493/1,916). Importantly, low income and illiteracy were two reliable factors affecting awareness before or after education intervention. Conclusions: Education intervention can significantly raise the awareness of cervical cancer in low-income women. Economic development and compulsory education are two important solutions in raising general disease awareness. We propose that implementing community-based awareness programs against cervical cancer is realistic, locally affordable and sustainable in low-income countries, which may save many lives over time and, importantly, will facilitate the integration of comprehensive programs when feasible. In this context, adopting this strategy may provide one good example of how to achieve "good health at low cost".
