For the purpose of developing Korean Herbaolgy with the plants of Umbelliferae which grow wild and is planted in Korea, the these and writings on herbalogy, from literature of successive generations, have been thoroughly investigative and the results obtained were as follows : 1. There were totaled to 34 genera and 95 species in Korea and among them medicinal plants are 23 genera, 49 species, some 52 % in total but, the number of species may be added because of the similiar plants. 2. According to the oriental names which can be used for medical purpose, the medicinal plants are belonging to the Umbelliferae family were classified as Radix 20, Fructus 8, Herba 7, Rhizoma 3, Foilum and Flos 2. Thus it was noticed that Radix was the main kind. 3. According to sum of 95 species in Umbelliferae family, they were classified into Angelica genera 23, Bupleurum genera 8, Piucedanum genera 7, Hydrocotyle genera 6. Thus it was noticed that Angelica genera was the main kind, some 24% in total. 4. According to the number of species of the origin plants about each chinese materia midicals, they were classified into RADIX BUPLEURI 6, HERBA HYDROCOTYLEI 4, and RADIX ANGELICAE GLGANTIS·RADIX LIGUSTICI TENUISSIMAE·RADIX ANGELICAE DAHURICAE·FRUCTUS TORILIS 3 each. Thus the origin plants was not complexed reletively. 5. According to nature and flavour of medicinal plants, they were classified into warmth, heat: 19 each, cold, cool : 9 each, balance 1 and unidentified 8. Thus it was noticed that warmth and heat is the main in nature and flavour of medicinal plants. 6. According to the Properties and Principal curative action, they were classified into Drugs for diaphoretics or drugs for treating exterior symptom-complex 7. Drugs for relieving pain 6, Antirheumatics, Drugs which have tonifying actions for the treatment of deficiencies of Yin, Yang, Qi and blood and therefore can be classified into four groups 4, Febrifugal and detoxicant drugs 3, Diuretics and hydragogues, Antitussives 2 each. Thus it was noticed that Drugs for diaphoretics or drugs for treating exterior symptom-complex was the main kind. 7. Comparing to whole medicinal plants 49 kinds, toxic durgs include minor toxin were 2 kinds, 4% of the whole. Thus toxic durgs were rare. From this result, It was revealed that the plants for medical purpose in Umbelliferae was 52% of the whole, in which RADIX was mostly abundunt and toxic plants was so rare that it will be used for clinical treatments more easily. It is considered that many experiements and clinical approaches must be continued to use Umbelliferae plants widely.

Toll-like receptors (TLR) are important components of innate immunity in the defense against pathogens. TLRs recognize pathogen-associated common molecular patterns. TLRs are similar to the receptors involved in defense responses in plants. TLR protein is a type 1 membrane protein, consisting of an extracellular domain containing leucine-rich repeats and a cytoplasmic domain. The cytoplasmic domain delivers ligand recognition signals that result in production of anti-microbial agents. The cytoplasmic domain (amino acid 858-1032) of toll-like receptor 9 has been expressed using methylotrophic yeast Pichia pastoris. The protein expression was confirmed by Western-blot, N-terminal sequencing and MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry. The proteins have been purified by nickel affinity, cation exchange and gel-filtration chromatography.
工業系 敎師의 再敎育을 위한 硏修 프로그램의 開發에 관한 硏究

This study is intended to provide a more effective curriculum for the In- Service Training Program of industrial technical teachers. The curricula which have been used during last five years were carefully analyzed and the main conclusions are suggested as follows; 1) It must be given to the teachers to take optional subjects. 2) Experiments should be reinforced make up for the understanding of theory. 3) Practical studies and factory investigations have to be provided to the teachers during the In-Service Training Program. In case of needs, the expert engineer of industries become a instructor to the teachers for explaining the up-to-date industrial techniques and theories. 4) The teachers who attending the In- Service Training Program should take an active interest in the program for getting a remarkable results.

Soil salinity is one of the most serious abiotic stresses limiting the productivity of agricultural crops. To cope with salt stress, plants respond with physiological, developmental and biochemical changes, including the synthesis of a number of proteins and the induction of gene expression. Salicornia herbacea is a halophytic plant that grows in salt marches and on muddy seashores. In order to understand the biochemical and molecular mechanisms of salt tolerance in S. herbacea, we isolated several genes that involved in the salt tolerance by mRNA differential display.Here we report the cloning of a cDNA encoding fructose-1, 6-bisphosphate aldolase, named ShADL, which is 1293 bp long and contains an open reading frame consisted of 359 amino acids with calculated molecular mass of 39 kDa. ShADL protein showed 86% identity with Arabidopsis and 78% with aldolase of common ice plant. Northern blot analysis revealed that the transcript of ShADL gene was increased dramatically depending on the NaCI concentrations.

Complementary DNA encoding chloroplast outer envelope membrane protein (OEP) from the halophyte Salicornia herbacea has been cloned and sequenced. The full length cDNA is 596 bp and encodes a polypeptide of 91 amino acid residues with a molecular mass of 8.9 kDa. The expression level of ShOEP increased by salt, drought and ABA treatments. ShOEP expression was largely induced in roots and shoots by high salts. The biological function of ShOEP was examined by yeast complementation. ShOEP can suppress Na+ sensitivity of yeast mutant (cnbΔ) in the presence of salt. These results suggest that ShOEP is a salt inducible gene and may have functions in the regulation of plant salt stress.

This experiment was carried out to find suitable sample type for a more accurate prediction and non-destructive way in the application of NIRS technique for estimation amino acid composition of soybean by comparing three different sample types, single seed, whole seeds, and milled seeds’ powder. The coefficient of determination in calibration and 1-VR of cross-validation for 17 amino acids analyzed by NIR using milled powder were highest, followed by single seed, and then whole seeds were the lowest. The R2 coefficients of determination in calibration for single bean perimeters were higher than those of whole beans and showed higher R2 coefficient than 0.8 with the exception of seven amino acids. On the other hand, calibration equation development for only glutamic acid analyzed NIRS data scanned with whole seeds showed higher R2 coefficient than 0.8. Eleven different amino acids, such as aspartic acid, threonine, serine, glutamine, glycine, alanine, valine, isoleucine, leucine, arginine and proline, of soybean seeds in the powder had higher R2 coefficient of determination in calibration than 0.8 and could be estimated for the most accurate prediction. However, judging from the results of single bean samples, in consideration on NIR application for more nondestructive and faster prediction, these amino acids using single bean sample could be estimated without grinding the seeds.

The Gelatinases (typeIV collagenases) are metalloproteinases that may play an important role in tumor invasion and metastasis. Progelatinase A was purified from a conditioned medium of T98G human glioblastoma cells. TIMP-2 complexed progelatinase A and free progelatinase A were separated by heparin affinity HPLC. The final product was homogeneous on SDS-PAGE, with a molecular weight of 64,000 daltons without reduction. TIMP-2 and free progelatinase A were separated from TIMP-2 complexed progelatinase A by reverse-phase HPLC in the presence of trifluoroacetic acid. TIMP-2 complexed progelatinase A was resistant to activation by p-aminophenyl mercuric acetate (APMA), and showed less than 20% of the activity of the TIMP-2 free active enzyme. TIMP-2 free progelatinase A was easily activated to the mature form with a molecular weight of 57,000 daltons by APMA, and showed high activity compared to the TIMP-2 complexed enzyme.

This paper describes a design model for the conceptual design of ships. Existing design models have problems such that their operating mode of batch versions cannot reflect the design procedures in reality. Reliability of the results is low because the performance estimations are based mainly on empirical formulas. To improve the problems of existing design models, a new design model has been developed. The new model consists of an interactive user interface, a database of main engines, a database of particulars of existing ships, and ten modules for performance estimations. To develop such a user-oriented system, the concept of graphical user interface (GUI) is adopted.

Tumor cell interaction with the extracellular matrix is defined as the critical event of tumor invasion that signals the initiation of a metastatic cascade. Sesquicillin has been identified as an inhibitor of melanoma cell adhesion to the components of the extracellular matrix (ECM) in cultured broth of fungal strain F60063. Sesquicillin strongly inhibited the adhesion of B16 melanoma cells to laminin. fibronectin. and typeIV collagen. It also inhibited B16 melanoma cell invasion of reconstituted basement membrane Matrigel in vitro in a dose-dependent manner. These results suggest that sesquicillin is a new class of nonpeptidic ECM adhesion inhibitor having anti-invasive activity.
