Dimension Tolerances in Fabrication of Polymer Microfluidic Devices

        K. Karthikeyan,L. Sujatha,R. Sundar,S. K. Sharma 대한전자공학회 2018 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.18 No.2

In this paper, we discuss about critical issues in fabrication of polymer microfluidic devices which affect the dimensions of the microchannel and hence the volumetric analysis of the fluids. The optical and thermal properties of the materials used in the fabrication of devices determine the final structural dimensions and the reliability of the fabricated devices. A clear understanding of material properties and their effect on the dimensional variations of microfluidic devices during fabrication are essential in different applications such as micro dispensers, micro pump, micro mixers and micro reactors. It is possible to obtain microfluidic devices with perfect dimensions by carrying out the fabrication processes with perfect timing control and precisely controlled temperature during fabrication. This paper focuses on the dimensional stability of SU8 prime mould with respect to UV exposure time, effect of temperature on PDMS replicas and the effective sealing of the device by adhesive bonding.

A Novel MEMS Microheater Based Alcohol Gas Sensor using Nanoparticles

        V. S. Selvakumar,L. Sujatha,R. Sundar 대한전자공학회 2018 Journal of semiconductor technology and science Vol.18 No.4

This work reports the simulation of nanoparticle coated MEMS based Alcohol Gas Sensor analysis with various parameters like power consumption, temperature uniformity, resistance change, sensitivity and selectivity. It is achieved by measuring the change in resistance when gas is exposed over the sensing layer. This instantaneous response in detection of gases helps in various application such as breath analyzer in vehicles, breath analyzer, food quality control etc. The gas sensor employs a mesh type poly silicon micro-hotplate structure. The sensor holds a very thin conducting film made of titanium which detects the presence of ethyl alcohol vapors on it. The temperature generated by the hot-plate influences various factors such as the conductance of the film and the quantity of a particular gas adsorbed on it. When sensor film is bring to the right boiling point temperature it evaporates residual vapor particles. For effective sensing of alcohol gas, we optimize the supply voltage (around 3 Volts) and the uniform temperature profile of the micro heater was analyzed (619.29 K) along with sensitivity and selectivity. For the gas sensing analysis, we have compared the sensitivity of thin film coating of ZnO, TiO₂, and SnO. The design was simulated by means of joules heating, thermal expansion and Electric current FEM simulation.

      • Estimation of Superoxide Dismutase and Glutathione Peroxidase in Oral Submucous Fibrosis, Oral Leukoplakia and Oral Cancer - A Comparative Study

        Gurudath, Shubha,Ganapathy, K.S.,D., Sujatha,Pai, Anuradha,Ballal, Sushmini,Asha, M.L. Asian Pacific Journal of Cancer Prevention 2012 Asian Pacific journal of cancer prevention Vol.13 No.9

Present study was undertaken to estimate and compare erythrocyte superoxide dismutase (E-SOD) and Glutathione peroxidase (GPx) levels in oral submucous fibrosis, oral leukoplakia and oral cancer patients and age/sex matched healthy subjects, 25 in each group. Statistically significant (P<0.001) decrease in E-SOD and GPx levels were observed in OSF, oral leukoplakia and oral cancer groups as compared to the control group. Oral leukoplakia group showed lower levels in comparison with OSF (P>0.05). Oral cancer group had the lowest levels amongst the study groups. Imbalance in antioxidant enzyme status may be considered as one of the factors responsible for the pathogenesis of cancer and may serve as a potential biomarker and therapeutic target to reduce the malignant transformation in oral premalignant lesions/conditions.
