<▼1><P>Hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α) mediates tumor cell adaptation to hypoxic conditions and is a potentially important anticancer therapeutic target. We previously developed a method for synthesizing a benzofuran-based natural product, (R)-(-)-moracin-O, and obtained a novel potent analog, MO-460 that suppresses the accumulation of HIF-1α in Hep3B cells. However, the molecular target and underlying mechanism of action of MO-460 remained unclear. In the current study, we identified heterogeneous nuclear ribonucleoprotein A2B1 (hnRNPA2B1) as a molecular target of MO-460. MO-460 inhibits the initiation of HIF-1α translation by binding to the C-terminal glycine-rich domain of hnRNPA2B1 and inhibiting its subsequent binding to the 3’-untranslated region of <I>HIF-1α</I> mRNA. Moreover, MO-460 suppresses HIF-1α protein synthesis under hypoxic conditions and induces the accumulation of stress granules. The data provided here suggest that hnRNPA2B1 serves as a crucial molecular target in hypoxia-induced tumor survival and thus offer an avenue for the development of novel anticancer therapies.</P></▼1><▼2><P><B>Cancer: How a plant metabolite analog suppresses tumor growth</B></P><P>A synthetic analog of a chemical found in fruit suppresses tumor growth by targeting an RNA-binding protein (hnRNPA2B1) and preventing the production of a pro-cancer regulatory factor. Nak-Kyun Soung from the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, Cheongju, South Korea, and coworkers built on their previous discovery that a compound derived from a medicinal plant metabolite can suppress the activity of hypoxia-inducible factor-1α (HIF-1α). This protein, which is involved in many aspects of cancer biology, is activated in the low-oxygen microenvironments found inside tumors. The researchers show that the compound binds to a protein that helps with the conversion of HIF-1α–encoding RNA transcripts into HIF-1α proteins. Liver cancer cells treated with the compound grew slowly and produced less HIF-1α under both normal and low-oxygen culture conditions, highlighting the potential of this anti-cancer strategy.</P></▼2>

축냉재 포접화합물의 열물성에 관한 실험적 연구(Ⅲ) : 충전량 변화 Variations of Charging Conditions

The objective of this paper is to investigate the thermal properties of TMA-clathrate compound in order to applicate cold storage system to residential air-conditioning. Especially, the test tube experiments are performed by comparing and analyzing the concentration of TMA-clathrate compound, the temperature of heat source, and the phase change temperature, specific heat and subcooling characteristics on the point of the variation of charge capacity. The results are summarized as follows; 1) When the temperature of heat source is -15℃, the stability of the thermal properties is appeared high in the whole experiments 2) The effect of subcooling suppression is improved around 0.6℃ when the temperature of heat source is -15℃, while the teemperature of subcooling is about 2.2℃ when the temperature of heat source is -10℃. Especially, it did not almost present any subcooling in the 26wt% of the 5g and the 25wt%, 30wt% of the 10g. Thus, we concluded that TMA-clathrate compound has thermal properties as the cold storage medium for residential air-conditioning.

The effect of ozone on the formation and the removal of disinfection byproducts(DBPs) of chlorination process was studied to elucidate the performance of water treatment process. The samples of raw water, prechlorination process, and preozonation process were analyzed quantitatively according to the Standard Methods for the Examination of drinking water. As a result, most of total trihalomethanes(THMs) which were formed in prechlorine treatment process was not removed in the preozonation process. Most of haloacetic acids(HAAs), haloacetonitriles(HANs), and chloral hydrate(CH) was removed in sedimentation and biological activated carbon(BAC) filtration processes. However, DBPs were increased more or less by postchlorine step. In particular, the formation of THMs and HAAs depends on ozone more than chlorine, but, the formation of HANs and CH depends on chlorine more than ozone. The seasonal variation of DBPs concentration for the year needs to be investigated to study the temperature effect because DBPs strongly depend on temperature among various efficient factors.

New gold colloidal film sensor chips were employed to enhance the sensitivity of the Surface Plasmon Resonce (SPR). Au collodal solutions were synthesized, and Au colloidal films were fabricated by immobilization of colloid on vacuum deposited Au film through the coupling agent of 1,8-diaminooctane. Specific interaction of human IgG antibody to human antigen was monitored by in situ SPR measurement from both a smooth and a Au colloidal films. Au colloidal film sensor chips resulted in 27 % enhancements effect for the same reaction on SPR angle shifts compared to a smooth Au film.

The objective of this paper is to investingate the thermal properties of TMA-clathrate applicable to cold storage system for building air-conditioning in order to use energy reasonably. Especially, the test tube experiments are performed by comparing and to analyzing the temperature of phase change, specific heat and subcooling characteristic according to the variation of concentrations and temperature of heat source in TMA clathrate. The result are summarized as follows; 1) temperature of phase change is dropped as the temperature of heat source is lower 2) specific heat of TMA-clathrate is about 24~95 % of pure-water 3) subcooling is smalled as the temperature of heat source is lower. Thus, it apears that TMA-clathrate has thermal properties as the cold storage medium for residential air-conditioning

We have been proposed model equation which is able to predict the trihalomethane producing concentration formation, that is one of byproduct, in the water treatment processes. In proposed model, the effects of trihalomethane factors like chlorine contact time, pH, temperature, TOC and UV-254 are considered. The concentration of the trihalomethane produced is proportion to the contact with chlorine, pH of water, temperature of water TOC and UV-254, respectively. This proposed model could be predicted the formed concentration of trihalomethanes by trihalomethane factors.

본 연구에서는 에너지의 합리적 이용을 위한 건물공조용 축냉시스템에 적용 가능한 축냉재로서 TMA-물계 포접화합물의 농도와 충전량의 변화에 따른 상변화온도, 비열 및 과냉도 실험을 통하여 다음과 같은 결론을 얻었다. 1. 충전량이 많을수록 전 실헐과정에서 열물성의 안정성이 높게 나타났다. 2. TMA-물계 포접화합물의 비열은 순수한 물에 대하여 86% ∼ 96% 정도를 나타내었다. 위의 실험결과로부터 TMA-포접화합물은 건물공조용 축냉재로서의 열물성을 갖는다고 판단된다 The objective of this Paper is to investigate the thermal properties of TMA-clathrate compound applicable to cold storage system for residential air-conditioning in order to use energy reasonably.
