      • Proposal of Robust Wireless Overlay P2P Information Share System Based on Wireless Bass Stations and Ad Hoc Devices

        Kiyohiko Hattori,Nobuo Nakajima,Tetuya Fujii,Youiti Kado,Bing Zhang,Takahiro Hazugawa,Kieiki Takadama 제어로봇시스템학회 2009 제어로봇시스템학회 국제학술대회 논문집 Vol.2009 No.8

The positional estimate system which is represented in GPS is applied from the convenience to various fields, and to be used as a navigation system for pedestrians in recent years. However, GPS has a weak point that it is not possible to use in indoors such as underground stations, buildings, etc. This is because GPS needs a radio wave from GPS space satellites. To tackle this subject, a lot of method with RFID and radio wave of wireless LAN is proposed. Those systems have a large error of accuracy about position estimation. Thus, to supplement the estimating error margin of the radio base methods, we purpose a hybrid indoor positioning system that uses a wireless adhoc communication and two dimension marker for the position and direction estimation in this research. To verify the effectiveness of proposed methods by simulations, it was clarifed to be able to improve the positional estimation accuracy by using two dimension markers and adhoc communication.

Is the Japanese Capital Accumulation "Balanced"?

Kiyohiko G. Nishimura,Morio Kuninori 서울대학교 경제연구소 1994 Seoul journal of economics Vol.7 No.2

If there is no way to improve social welfare by diverting investment from one sector to another, then capital accumulation is sectorally balanced. We derive a necessary condition of the sectorally-balanced growth, which can be called no arbitrage condition in shadow prices (NACISP). Assuming perfect competition and constant returns. the test of NACISP is applied to the Japanese data. The result suggests sectorally-unbalanced growth in the Japanese economy between 1960 and 1985. Strong evidence of sectoral-unbalancedness is found in agriculture-forestry-fishery, Mining, construction, manufacturing, and real estate industries.

Clinical efficacy of blood purification using a polymethylmethacrylate hemofilter for the treatment of severe acute pancreatitis

        Kiyohiko Kinjoh,Ryoji Nagamura,Yutaka Sakuda,Shoki Yamauchi,Tadashi Iraha,Tadashi Iraha,Koji Idomari 대한중환자의학회 2022 Acute and Critical Care Vol.37 No.3

Background: Severe acute pancreatitis (SAP) is a systemic inflammatory disease, and it can often complicate into acute kidney injury (AKI) and acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome (ALI/ARDS). This study aimed to evaluate the clinical effectiveness of blood purification using a polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) hemofilter. Methods: We retrospectively examined 54 patients, who were diagnosed with SAP according to the Japanese criteria from January 2011 to December 2019.Results: Of a total of 54 SAP patients, 26 patients progressively developed AKI and required continuous hemodialysis with a PMMA membrane hemofilter (PMMA-CHD). Acute Physiology and Chronic Health Evaluation (APACHE) II score and Sequential Organ Failure Assessment (SOFA) score were significantly higher in patients requiring PMMA-CHD than in patients not requiring hemodialysis. The lung injury scores were also significantly higher in patients requiring PMMA-CHD. Of the 26 patients, 16 patients developed ALI/ARDS and required mechanical ventilation. A total of seven patients developed severe ALI/ARDS and received additional intermittent hemodiafiltration using a PMMA hemofilter (PMMA-HDF). Although the length of intensive care unit stay was significantly longer in patients with severe ALI/ARDS, blood purification therapy was discontinued in all the patients. The survival rates at the time of discharge were 92.3% and 92.9% in patients with and without PMMA-CHD, respectively. These real mortality ratios were obviously lower than the estimated mortality ratios predicted by APACHE II scores. Conclusions: These finding suggest that the blood purification using a PMMA hemofilter would be effective for the treatment of AKI and ALI/ARDS in SAP patients.

      • Long-Range Charge Transfer through DNA by Replacing Adenine with Diaminopurine

Kawai, Kiyohiko,Kodera, Haruka,Majima, Tetsuro American Chemical Society 2010 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.132 No.2

<P>A positive charge migrates along DNA mainly via a series of short-range charge transfer (CT) processes between G-C base pairs, which have relatively high HOMO levels. As such, the CT efficiency sharply decreases with the insertion of A-T base pairs between the G-C base pairs. We have previously demonstrated that the CT efficiency through DNA can be dramatically increased by using deazaadenine (Z), an analogue of A, to adjust the HOMO levels of the A-T base pairs closer to those of the G-C base pairs (<I>Nat. Chem.</I> <B>2009</B>, <I>1</I>, 156). In the present study, we have expanded this approach to show that the CT efficiency can also be increased by replacing A bases with diaminopurine (D).</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jacsat/2010/jacsat.2010.132.issue-2/ja907409z/production/images/medium/ja-2009-07409z_0005.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ja907409z'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

      • Probing the Charge-Transfer Dynamics in DNA at the Single-Molecule Level

Kawai, Kiyohiko,Matsutani, Eri,Maruyama, Atsushi,Majima, Tetsuro American Chemical Society 2011 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.133 No.39

<P>Photoinduced charge-transfer fluorescence quenching of a fluorescent dye produces the nonemissive charge-separated state, and subsequent charge recombination makes the reaction reversible. While the information available from the photoinduced charge-transfer process provides the basis for monitoring the microenvironment around the fluorescent dyes and such monitoring is particularly important in live-cell imaging and DNA diagnosis, the information obtainable from the charge recombination process is usually overlooked. When looking at fluorescence emitted from each single fluorescent dye, photoinduced charge-transfer, charge-migration, and charge recombination cause a “blinking” of the fluorescence, in which the charge-recombination rate or the lifetime of the charge-separated state (τ) is supposed to be reflected in the duration of the off time during the single-molecule-level fluorescence measurement. Herein, based on our recently developed method for the direct observation of charge migration in DNA, we utilized DNA as a platform for spectroscopic investigations of charge-recombination dynamics for several fluorescent dyes: TAMRA, ATTO 655, and Alexa 532, which are used in single-molecule fluorescence measurements. Charge recombination dynamics were observed by transient absorption measurements, demonstrating that these fluorescent dyes can be used to monitor the charge-separation and charge-recombination events. Fluorescence correlation spectroscopy (FCS) of ATTO 655 modified DNA allowed the successful measurement of the charge-recombination dynamics in DNA at the single-molecule level. Utilizing the injected charge just like a pulse of sound, such as a “ping” in active sonar systems, information about the DNA sequence surrounding the fluorescent dye was read out by measuring the time it takes for the charge to return.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jacsat/2011/jacsat.2011.133.issue-39/ja206325m/production/images/medium/ja-2011-06325m_0007.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ja206325m'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>

      • A Study on Satellite Internet Systems-Reliable Multicast with an On-Board ATM Switch

Uehara, Kiyohiko 통신위성우주산업연구회 2001 Joint Conference on Satellite Communications Vol.2001 No.-

Satellite Internet systems are studied, considering the advantages in constructing them with on-board ATM switches. As an effective application, reliable multicast with the satellite Internet systems is discussed, compared to that with the terrestrial Internet systems. Reliable multicast protocols are reviewed, keeping in view of their use in the satellite Internet systems. Full-meshed connections established by the on-board ATM switches can put many-to-many multicast into practice with reliability in transmission. The performance of the satellite Internet systems are evaluated for the reliable multicast with a simplified NACK-based transport protocol as a first step. The results of the evaluation for the satellite Internet systems are compared with those for the terrestrial Internet systems. Finally, the advantages of the satellite Internet systems are clarified in reliable-multicast performance in contrast to the terrestrial Internet systems.

      • Hole Transfer in LNA and 5-Me-2′-deoxyzebularine-Modified DNA

Kawai, Kiyohiko,Hayashi, Mitsuo,Majima, Tetsuro American Chemical Society 2012 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.134 No.22

<P>We report the measurement of hole-transfer rate constants (<I>k</I>ht) in locked nucleic acid (LNA) and 5-Me-2′-deoxyzebularine (<B>B</B>)-modified DNA. LNA modification, which makes DNA more rigid, caused a decrease of more than 2 orders of magnitude in <I>k</I>ht, whereas <B>B</B> modification, which increases DNA flexibility, increased <I>k</I>ht by more than 20-fold. The present results clearly showed that hole-transfer efficiency in DNA can be increased by increasing DNA flexibility.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jacsat/2012/jacsat.2012.134.issue-22/ja302641e/production/images/medium/ja-2012-02641e_0004.gif'></P>

      • Photocatalytic Formation of I−I Bonds Using DNA Which Enables Detection of Single Nucleotide Polymorphisms

Kawai, Kiyohiko,Kodera, Haruka,Majima, Tetsuro American Chemical Society 2010 JOURNAL OF THE AMERICAN CHEMICAL SOCIETY - Vol.132 No.40

<P>By decreasing the HOMO energy gap between the base-pairs to increase the charge conductivity of DNA, the positive charge photochemically generated in DNA can be made to migrate along the π-way of DNA over long distances to form a long-lived charge-separated state. By fine-tuning the kinetics of the charge-transfer reactions, we designed a functionalized DNA system in which absorbed photon energy is converted into chemical energy to form I−I covalent bonds, where more than 100 I2 molecules were produced per functionalized DNA. Utilizing the fact that charge-transfer kinetics through DNA is sensitive to the presence of a single mismatch that causes the perturbation of the π-stacks, single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in genomic sequences were detected by measuring the photon energy conversion efficiency in DNA by a conventional starch iodine method.</P><P><B>Graphic Abstract</B> <IMG SRC='http://pubs.acs.org/appl/literatum/publisher/achs/journals/content/jacsat/2010/jacsat.2010.132.issue-40/ja105850d/production/images/medium/ja-2010-05850d_0001.gif'></P><P><A href='http://pubs.acs.org/doi/suppl/10.1021/ja105850d'>ACS Electronic Supporting Info</A></P>
