Cytokinesis and septation should be coordinated to nuclear division in the cell division cycle for precise transmission of the genome into daughter cells. byr4, an essential gene in fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe, regulates the timing of cytokinesis and septation in a dosage-dependent manner. We examined the intracellular localization of the Byr4 protein by expressing byr4 as a fusion of green fluorescence protein (GFP). The Byr4 protein localizes as a single dot on the nuclear periphery of interphase cells, duplicates before mitosis, and the duplicated dots segregate with the nuclei in anaphase. The behavior of Byr4p throughout the cell cycle strongly suggests that Byr4p is localized to the spindle pole body (SPB), a microtubule organizing center (MTOC) in yeast. The presence of the Byr4 protein in the SPB is consistent with its function to coordinate mitosis and cytokinesis. We also mapped the domains of Byr4p for its proper localization to SPB by expressing various byr4 deletion mutants as GFP fusions. Analyses of the diverse byr4 deletion mutants suggest that the indirect repeats and the regions homologous to the open reading frame (ORF) YJRO53W of S. cerevisiae in its C-terminus are essential for its localization to the SPB.
The Fission Yeast Hdalp Functions on the Regulation of Proper Cell Division

We cloned hda1+/ (histone deacetylase 1) of fission yeast Schizosaccharomyces pombe. The hda1+ of S. pombe was previously previously reported to encode for an active histone deacetylase (Rundlett et al., 1996; Olsson et al., 1998). The hda1+ is phylogenetically related to the new open reading frame HOS2 of Saccharomyces cerevisiae and only shows a partial homology to the well-known histone deacetylase subclasses, RPD3 and HDA1. A single hda1 mRNA of 1.8kb was detected at the same level in actively growing and nitrogen-starved cells. When highly over-expressed in S. pombe from an inducible promoter, hda1+ inhibited cell proliferation and caused defects in morphology and cell division. The increased histone deacetylase activity was detected in hda1+ over-expressing cells. These results suggest that the Hdalp should function on the regulation of cell division possibly by (Allfrey, 1966) direct deacetylation of cytoskeletal (Wade et al., 1997) and cell division regulatory proteins, (Wolffe, 1997) or by controlling their gene expressions.

The effect of a 60 Hz time-varying electric field was studied using a facing-electrode device (FED) and a coplanar-electrode device (CED) for further investigation of the genotoxicity of 60 Hz time-varying magnetic field (MF) from preceding research. Neither a single 30-minute exposure to the CED or to the FED had any obvious biological effects such as DNA double strand break (DSB) and apoptosis in cancerous SCC25, and HeLa cells, normal primary fibroblast IMR90 cells, while exposures of 60 Hz time-varying MF led to DNA damage with induced electric fields much smaller than those used in this experiment. Nor did repetitive exposures of three days or a continuous exposure of up to 144 hours with the CED induce any DNA damage or apoptosis in either HeLa or IMR90 cells. These results imply that the solitary electric field produced by time-varying MF is not a major cause of DSBs or apoptosis in cancer or normal cells.

원격지에 위치한 분산제어 시스템과 센서 데이터 또는 제어 명령을 주고 받을 때에는 불확실한 시간지연이 발생한다. TCP/IP 프로토콜을 이용한 데이터 네트워크와 마찬가지로 데이터 네트워크와 디바이스 네트워크를 결합한 가상 디자이스 네트워크도 불확실한 시간지연이 내재되어 있다. 이러한 시간지연은 분산제어시스템의 성능을 저하시키고 불안전성을 야기하는 원인이 된다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 네트워크상에 내재하는 시간지연을 평가하고 부정적인 효과를 최소화하기 위하여 Smith Predictor를 적용하였다. 제안된 제어 알고리즘은 실시간 서보제어를 통하여 효과를 입증하였으며 가상 디바이스 네트워크 개념에 근거한 분산제어 시스템을 이용하여 실시간 예지보전을 수행할 때 효과가 있음을 제시하였다. Uncertain time delay happens when the process reads the sensor data and sends the control input to the plant located at a remote site in distributed control system. As in the case of data network using TCP/IP, VDN that integrates both device network and data network has uncertain time delay. Uncertain time delay can cause degradation in performance and stability of distributed control system based on VDN. This paper first investigates the transmission characteristic of VDN and suggests a control scheme based on the Smith's predictor to minimize the effect of uncertain varying time delay. The validity of the proposed control scheme is demonstrated with real-time velocity control of DC servo motor located in remote site.
A Collaborative Study to Establish the Second Korean National Reference Standard for Snake Venom

In 2015, a candidate for the second national reference standard (NRS) of Gloydius snake venom was produced to replace the first NRS of Gloydius snake venom. In the present study, the potencies of the candidate were determined by a collaborative study, and the qualification of the candidate was estimated. The potencies of the candidate were determined by measuring the murine lethal titers and lapine hemorrhagic titers of venom against the regional working reference standard (RWRS) for antivenom using the methods described in the previous report for the first NRS of Gloydius snake venom. Three Korean facilities contributed data from a total of 30 independent assays. Subsequently, two foreign national control research laboratories contributed to this collaborative study. The results were calculated using the Reed-Muench method for lethality and determined using a mixed-effects model for hemorrhage. The general common potencies of the lethal and hemorrhagic titers were obtained from the results of the 30 tests performed at three Korean facilities. The results are expressed in micrograms for 1 test dose (TD) with a 95% confidence interval as follows: a lethal titer of 90.13 ㎍/TD (95% confidence interval = 87.39~92.86 ㎍) and a hemorrhagic titer of 10.80 ㎍/TD (95% confidence interval = 10.46~11.14 ㎍). In addition, the candidate preparation showed good quality evaluation according to the results of the quality estimation of the candidate and is judged to be suitable to serve as the Korean NRS for snake venom. In conclusion, the second NRS of Gloydius snake venom was established in this study and will be used for national quality control, including a national lot release test of Korean antivenom products.
