Some basic propeties of suppository bases containing cetyl alcohol(C), lanoline(L), and propylene glycol(P) were investigated in this study. The results were as follows. 1. Suppository could be molded easily in the higher amount of cetyl alcohol than that of lanoline or propylene glycol. 2. Suppository was molded by 28 kinds of different C:L:P ration could be soften in rectum temperature and the proper ratios of C:L:P to release sodium salicylate from suppository were 5:3:1, 3:1:2, 4:3:1, 5:3:2. 3. The softening times of suppository with these ratios of C:L:P were 9 min to 20 min. 4. Softening temperature and time were not changed after storage for 1, 11, 38, 54 days at 20℃ or 4℃ 5. The most appropriate ratio of this base was 5:3:1 in sodium salicylate suppository.

In prder to clarify the changes of serum chemical values(AST, CPK and LDH activities)and LDH isoenzyme fractions in frequent occuring some diseases of dairy cows, total 48 cows(40 patients: 18 with downer cow syndrome, 17 with abomasal displacement and 5 with acute mastitis and 8 controls: clinically healthy cows) were examined. The results obtained were as follows: 1. In changes of total serum enzyme activities of patients group, increase of serum AST(P<0.001), CPK(P<0.01) and LDH activities(P<0.01)were observed in groups of downer cow syndrome and abomasal displacement, respectively by comparison with control group. Increase of AST only was found in group of acute mastitis(P<0.05). 2. In LDH isoenzyme fractions, increase of LDH₁(P<0.01), LDH₂(P<0.05), LDH₃(P<0.01), LDH₄(P<0.01) and LDH_5(P<0.01)fractiona was observed in group of downer cow syndrome and also marker increase of LDH4 and LDH5 fractions was noted in this group. The increase of LDH₁, LDH₂ amd LDH₃ (P<0.01)fractions was found in group of abomasal displacement, but group of acute mastitis showed similar result to that of control group.

It was investigated Cadmium eliminating capacty of Quartz Porphyry(Q.P.) during washing, swelling, and cooking process in rice contaminated artificially. 1. After washing the rice four times with water, the eliminating rate of Cadmium from artificially contaminated sample were 16% in control group, 28% and 42% in 25g/kg and 50g/kg Q.P. treated group, respectively. 2. Swelling of rice in water about 20 minutes didn't change the Cadmium level in Q.P. treated group. 3. Cadmium eliminating efficiency by cooking was significantly increased in Q.P. treated group (43~54%) compared to control group(31%). 4. These results suggest that treatment of rice with Q.P. is very effective to remove the Cadmium contamination in rice.

A study for development of natural red pigment in food and drug industry was proceeded to anthocyanin from prunus yedoensis Matsum, isolated through silica gel column and further subjected to TLC. The color effect and stability from several factors was detected by spectrophotometry in 520 nm and was compared to amaranth and then 1/200 times of it. The content of the color of the fruits of Prunus yedoensis Matsum was 0.6%. As this pigment was more safe about 7.4 times in ??,but was influenced by pH(3.0-8.0) and by some metal ions (??, ??, ??, ??),and respectively stable to temperature, sun light, ultra violet ray and organic acids than amaranth, and was not given a bad infouences by sugars, recovery of another characteristics of this pigment or co-factors to compensate and promote the color effect, for example Cu(), is expected.

Effect of water and ethanol extract of Rheum coreanum N. on changes of pH in different NaC1 concentration and temperature in Juicy Kimchi was investigated and then, compared with it to sodium benzoate. The following results were obtained. 1. Addition of 0.03% water and ethanol extract of Rheum coreanum N. to juicy Kimchi preserved above pH 4.0 in whole experimental period at 30℃. 2. Addition of 0.1% water extract of Rheum coreanum N. induced less pH changes than control and preserved above pH 4.5 after 7 day at 18℃. 3. It was observed that water estract of Rheum coreanum N. was greater than ethanol extract in preservative potency. 4. Preservative potency of 0.03% water extract of Rheum coreanum N. was superior to 0.1% sodium benzoate. 5. Addition of 0.03% water extract of Rheum coreanum N. prolonged the tasty period of juicy Kimchi, which was more effective than sodium benzoate.

Effect of perilla oil emulsion prepared by ginseng powder on absorption of free fatty acid of rat small intestine were investigated in this study. The results were as follow; 1. 4g of ginseng powder could enulsify 1g of perilla oil. 2. Total crude saponin could be separated and identified by method of Namba and Shibata et al, and be measured by weight and volumn. 3. The content of total crude saponin containing in fuor years old ginseng root caltivated in Gum San was 2.26 to 2.70% of total root weight. 4. Ginseng powder increased the absorption of free fatty acid and emulsion prepared by ginseng powder induced more effective increase in free fatty acid absorption than that of non-emulsion form in rat small intestine. 5. Emulsion prepared by ginseng powder was o/w type and more stable in lower water and higher mucosity than in high water and low mucosity. 6. Emulsion was stable for 36days at 5℃~8℃.

The effect of methanol extract of Commelina communis L. (C.M.E. ) on blood glucose level in alloxan -diabetic rabbit and acute toxicity of C.M.E. were investigated. C.M.E. decreased blood glucose level significantly but did not affect the normal blood glucose level and LD50 was about 6.250 mg / kg.

Pharmacological effect of alkaloid fraction of cayratia japonica was investigated in rabbit ileum. Cayratia alkaloid over 10-5g/ml concentration, induced contraction of rabbit ileum. Hexamethonium, atropine and tetracaine did not prevent cayratia alkaloid-induced contraction. Promethazine inhibited the contractile response to cayratia alkaloid. It is suggested that cayratia alkaloid-induced contraction of rabbit ileum is due to the release of histamine from intestinal tissue.
