      • Wheel over point mathematical model

        This research proposes an improved mathematical model which can be used to calculate wheel over point (WOP) for a ship's route optimisation. WOP is a marking made on the charted course to demonstrate where the ship must initiate the course alteration to guarantee that it follows the route. The advance transfer technique (ATT) was used to determine WOP. Through practical exercise, two gaps were identified in ATT. From there, an improved mathematical model, namely ATMM, were developed. A preliminary manoeuvring analysis was then carried out in this study using a ship simulator for ATMM and the existing ATT. Then, the cross-track distance produced by both methods were compared to verify the difference. It was found that the ATMM produced better result in maintaining a ship on its course. This research's mathematical model is expected to be used onboard ship and used in the Electronic Chart Display and Information System to aid navigator in making more effective course alteration.

        OCR-Based Safety Check System of Packaged Food for Food Inconvenience Patients

        Patients suffering from food allergy or immune disease are increasing, and packaged foods are often the cause of outbreak of the symptoms. We propose a smart-phone based system that helps patients from consuming harmful packaged foods. The user takes the picture of the ingredients list printed on the envelop, and send it to the server. The server adopts OCR technology to retrieve the strings of the image. To increase the accuracy of the recognition, the output of the OCR is treated by two step post-OCR processes: tokenization, and lexicon look-up. The tokenization separates the strings into tokens and removes non alphabetic signs. Then the tokens are compared with english and proprietary dictionaries. The former corrects misspelled words. The latter selects only meaningful words in the context of ingredients. Using the user’s information and ingredient-disease DB, the server makes decision on the safeness of the food. The server is built using open source softwares to process OCR, tokenization, and dictionary comparison.

      • Detection of Mobile Object in Workspace Area

        This paper introduces the detection of mobile object in intelligent space robot application. There are three major algorithms, namely object detection, object classification and object tracking. The core of the detection of mobile object comprise of two processes: offline and online. An offline process consists of the training of the model using deference input sources that depend on the application. An online process consists of the matching process and the result of the object poses. The main idea of object classification is to classify into two categories depending on the dimension of object, mobile object and non-mobile object. By using an offline and an online process the whole process becomes faster because there only have object classification and object tracking involved in real time. The positions of the mobile object are represented by symbol X with difference colors for easy comparison with non-mobile object. One of the unique advantages mentioned in this paper, the detection of mobile object only uses image processing that are generated by the algorithms without additional sensor like sonar or IR sensor.

        Several words on the Dictionary of the 16th Century Polish Language

        The paper presents some basic issues concerning the Dictionary of the 16th Century Polish Language (SPXVI). The Dictionary is an immense lexicographic undertaking which dates back to 1949. It was the period that the Institute of Literary Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences [PAN] appointed a number of Lexicographer Teams to gather material for the Dictionary. SPXVI Trial Booklet was published in 1956, Volume I of the Dictionary in 1966. The latest Volume XXXVII, which covers entries from rozum to rżysko, is currently at its printing phase. SPXVI is a historical documentary dictionary based upon the statistic method. It contains common words only. Its vocabulary information is highly extensive and multi-layered – apart from the definition of a given entry’s meaning, it includes, inter alia: analysis of its grammatical layer (paradigm) and its phonetic layer (vowel tone), description of its syntactic and phrasal relations, and information on its distribution in particular texts. From the very beginning, the authors of the Dictionary have also placed special emphasis on the ability to expose some phenomena of the textual stylistics of that time.

        대학생의 자아분화가 진로결정수준에 미치는 영향

        The purpose of this study was to verify the relationship between university students self-differentiation, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career decision status. The following results were obtained from this study. Firstly, the university students self-differentiation, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career decision status were verified according to gender. There were differences between the self-differentiation and emotional-cognitive differentiation according to gender. Also, the gender-based differences in the career decision-making self-efficacy were verified. There were gender-based differences in emotional-cognitive differentiation, with the male students exhibiting higher sensitivity in the cognitive part, whereas the female students exhibited higher sensitivity in the emotional part. The male students had higher self-efficacy related to career-decision making. As regards the career decision status, no significant gender-based differences were found. Secondly, the relationship between self-differentiation, career decision-making self-efficacy, and career decision status were examined. Self-differentiation had a significant correlation with career decision-making self-efficacy. When examined by the sub-factors of self-differentiation, emotional-cognitive differentiation, self-integration, family projection, and emotional cutoff had significant correlations with career decision-making self-efficacy. Thirdly, career decision-making self-efficacy exercised mediating effects on the positive relations between emotion-cognition differentiation, self-integration, family projection and career decision status. In the case of the male students, career decision-making self-efficacy exercised mediating effects on the positive relations between emotion-cognition differentiation, self-integration, family projection and career decision status. In the case of the female students, career decision-making self-efficacy exercised mediating effects on the positive relations between self-integration and career decision status.

      • Self-adaptable Routing Scheme for In-network Processing

        The wireless sensor network (WSN), is a type of self-organized distribution system without complex infrastructure requirement. However, WSN’s independence and un-attended usage limit its power supply and life expectancy. These become a critical issue for any WSN implementation. The in-network processing which, intends to minify data volume locally can greatly reduce the energy consumption of data delivery over a long distance to the sink. However, open problems are still remain with in-network processing, such as how to carry out in-network processing, and how to combine routing scheme to the sink (e.g. the long distance delivery). For any WSN application, the following pre-assumption is vital. There exists a physical signal field which bridges physical events to the sensors of WSN, otherwise WSN does not work. In fact, the physical signal field can be depicted by sensory data of all the nodes, and can even be used for local data convergence (e.g. in-network processing). An immediate solution which we propose is that, sensory data of the nodes can be converged to local extremes of the physical signal field along its gradient direction. Furthermore, the physical signal field is integrated with the cost field routing scheme. The cost field routing is in charge of delivering data to the sink. During the in-network processing, the delivery direction is derived by combining linearly the gradient directions of the cost field and physical signal field. Also simulation results show that the proposed schemes are robust, adaptable, and reliable to the variation of physical events.

        Photocatalytic degradation of malachite green dye using zero valent iron doped polypyrrole

        The zero valent iron doped polypyrrole (Ppy/Fe) was synthesized via chemical oxidative polymerization method in diethylene glycol medium for the first time in this study. The characterization of synthesized Ppy and Ppy/Fe composites was realized by using fourier transform infrared spectrometer (FTIR), UV-visible diffuse reflectance spectrometer (DRS), scanning electron microscope (SEM), elemental dispersion X-ray analysis (EDX), four point probe electrical conductivity X-Ray diffraction spectroscopy (XRD) and pH at point of zero charge (pHpzc) methods. These characterizations show that there is an interaction between zero valent iron (Fe<SUP>0</SUP>) and Ppy polymer. The photocatalytic activity of synthesized Ppy and Ppy/Fe composite were investigated by degradation of malachite green (MG) dye under UV light irradiation. Ppy/Fe composite was achieved complete degradation within 60 min, which is 5.92 times faster than pure Ppy. The effect of irradiation time, ratio of Ppy and Fe<SUP>0</SUP> in the synthesized composites, photocatalyst amount to photocatalytic efficiency of Ppy/Fe is studied. Also, the photocatalytic stability of Ppy/Fe is investigated under UV light illumination for degradation MG dye.
