        Mechanism underlying 2n male and female gamete formation in lemon via cytological and molecular marker analysis

        The unreduced (2n) gametes have long been used in triploid breeding of citrus. In lemon, the previously reported mechanisms for 2n megagametophyte formation were controversial, whereas that for 2n pollen production is still unknown. Herein, the frequency of and mechanism underlying 2n megagametophyte and 2n pollen formation in ‘Eureka’ lemon were investigated based on cytological observation and genotyping of the triploid hybrids between ‘Eureka’ lemon and ‘Early gold’ sweet orange. As a result, 4.79% of the viable pollens of ‘Eureka’ lemon were identified as the 2n pollen with a larger diameter (70.16 ± 3.92 μm). The 2n pollen might be resulted from the formation of parallel spindles at meiosis stage II. Among the 204 plantlets regenerated from embryo rescue following the sexual cross, 12 were triploids as identified by flow cytometry. According to the analysis of heterozygosity transmission using 13 pericentromeric single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) markers and 20 randomly distributed simple sequence repeat (SSR) markers, 11 triploids were identified to be originated from the fertilization of 2n megagametophytes of ‘Eureka’ lemon, with a frequency of 5.39%. Among them, nine 2n megagametophytes were supposed to be arisen from the second division restitution (SDR), whereas the other two were from postmeiotic genome doubling (PMD). These results to understand the mechanism underlying 2n gamete formation in lemon are valuable for its efficient polyploid breeding.

      • Clinicopathologic Characteristics and Prognoses for Multicentric Occurrence and Intrahepatic Metastasis in Synchronous Multinodular Hepatocellular Carcinoma Patients

        Background: Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most common cancers worldwide, and the outcomes for patients are still poor. It is important to determine the original type of synchronous multinodular HCC for preoperative assessment and the choice of treatment therapy as well as for the prediction of prognosis after treatment. Aims: To analyze clinicopathologic characteristics and prognoses in patients with multicentric occurrence (MO) and intrahepatic metastasis (IM) of synchronous multinodular hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC). Methods: The study group comprised 42 multinodular HCC patients with a total of 112 nodules. The control group comprised 20 HCC patients with 16 single nodular HCC cases and 4 HCC cases with a portal vein tumor emboli. The mitochondrial DNA (mtDNA) D-loop region was sequenced, and the patients of the study group were categorized as MO or IM based on the sequence variations. Univariate and multivariate analyses were used to determine the important clinicopathologic characteristics in the two groups. Results: In the study group, 20 cases were categorized as MO, and 22 as IM, whereas all 20 cases in the control group were characterized as IM. Several factors significantly differed between the IM and MO patients, including hepatitis B e antigen (HBeAg), cumulative tumor size, tumor nodule location, cirrhosis, portal vein and/or microvascular tumor embolus and the histological grade of the primary nodule. Multivariate analysis further demonstrated that cirrhosis and portal vein and/or microvascular tumor thrombus were independent factors differentiating between IM and MO patients. The tumor-free survival time of the MO subjects was significantly longer than that of the IM subjects ($25.7{\pm}4.8$ months vs. $8.9{\pm}3.1$ months, p=0.017). Similarly, the overall survival time of the MO subjects was longer ($31.6{\pm}5.3$ months vs. $15.4{\pm}3.4$ months, p=0.024). The multivariate analysis further demonstrated that the original type (p=0.035) and Child-Pugh grade (p<0.001) were independent predictors of tumor-free survival time. Cirrhosis (p=0.011), original type (p=0.034) and Child-Pugh grade (p<0.001) were independent predictors of overall survival time. Conclusions: HBeAg, cumulative tumor size, tumor nodule location, cirrhosis, portal vein and/or microvascular tumor embolus and histological grade of the primary nodule are important factors for differentiating IM and MO. MO HCC patients might have a favorable outcome compared with IM patients.

        The visible and ultraviolet organic light-emitting diodes with germanium dioxide as facile solution-processed anode buffer layer

        Germanium dioxide (GeO2) aqueous solutions are facilely prepared and the corresponding anode buffer layers (ABLs) with solution process are demonstrated. Atomic force microscopy, X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and ultraviolet photoelectron spectroscopy measurements show that solution-processed GeO2 behaves superior film morphology and enhanced work function. Using GeO2 as ABL of organic light-emitting diodes (OLEDs), the visible device with tris(8-hydroxy-quinolinato)aluminium as emitter gives maximum luminous efficiency of 6.5 cd/A and power efficiency of 3.5 lm/W, the ultraviolet device with 3-(4-biphenyl)-4-phenyl-5-tert-butylphenyl- 1,2,4-triazole as emitter exhibits short-wavelength emission with peak of 376 nm, full-width at halfmaximum of 42 nm, maximum radiance of 3.36 mW/cm2 and external quantum efficiency of 1.5%. The performances are almost comparable to the counterparts with poly (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene):poly (styrenesulfonate) as ABL. The current, impedance, phase and capacitance as a function of voltage characteristics elucidate that the GeO2 ABL formed from appropriate concentration of GeO2 aqueous solution favors hole injection enhancement and accordingly promoting device performance.

        Preparation of AlN Films and nc-AlN/a-SiNx Nanocomposite Films by Medium Frequency Magnetron Sputtering

        AlN ¯lms and nc-AlN/a-SiNx nanocomposite ¯lms are deposited on (111) silicon and glass sub-strates by using medium-frequency reactive magnetron sputtering under N2/Ar atmosphere, and then the ¯lms are analyzed in detail by using transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and X-ray diraction (XRD). Hardness of the nc-AlN/a-SiNx ¯lms is measured. The microstructures of AlN ¯lms under dierent nitrogen concentrations are compared. The XRD patterns indicate that the ¯lm shows (002) orientation, strongly independent of N2 partial °ow rate. The TEM images show that the uniform AlN crystal, the clear polycrystalline diraction circles and the dierence of the grain size under dierent conditions are signi¯cant. Columnar grains of AlN ¯lm on (111) silicon substrate under 70 % N2 partial °ow rate are observed. The results indicate that the preferred orientation of AlN ¯lm is aected by N2 partial °ow rate. The hardness of nc-AlN/a-SiNx ¯lms increases with increasing a-SiNx content and the hardness decreases when a-SiNx is excessive. The maximal hardness of nc-AlN/a-SiNx nanocomposite ¯lms can reach 30 GPa by adjusting a-SiNx content. The transmission of the nanocomposite ¯lms is over 85 %. The results suggest that it has potential application for optical protective coatings.

        Study on the spin polarization of a current through a hybrid resonant tunneling diode

        <P>The effects of spin-splitting energy and temperature on the electric transport properties through a hybrid resonant tunneling diode (RTD) with ferroelectric barriers and a diluted magnetic semiconductor (DMS) quantum well are studied by using the non-equilibrium Green's function method. The results show that the period of spin polarization oscillation as a function of a bias voltage increases by increasing the spin-splitting energy of the DMS quantum well. The spin polarization of the current near the Fermi level is highly influenced by a change in temperature. The RTD with a ferromagnetic quantum well is more efficient than that with a ferromagnetic emitter to manipulate the spin direction of the current and to enhance the spin polarization of the current without changing the direction of an external magnetic field.</P>

        Two new benzylisoquinoline alkaloids from Thalictrum foliolosum and their antioxidant and in vitro antiproliferative properties

        Two novel rare chloro-containing benzylisoquinolinealkaloids, thalfoliolosumines A (1) and B (2),along with eight known isoquinoline alkaloids (3–10) wereisolated from the whole plant of Thalictrum foliolosum. The structures of these compounds were elucidated byspectral analyses, including 1D and 2D NMR (COSY,HSQC, HMBC and NOESY) experiments. The antiproliferativeeffects of all the isolated compounds were evaluatedby MTT method against MCF-7, PC-3, and U937cells, and trypan blue method against HL-60 cells. Newcompounds 1 and 2 exhibited moderate in vitro antiproliferativeactivity against MCF-7, PC-3, and HL-60 cells,and good inhibitory effects against U937 cells with IC50values of 7.50 and 6.97 μM, respectively. Compounds 7and 10 showed the strongest in vitro antiproliferative withIC50 values of 0.93 and 1.69 lM against HL-60 cell line. The antioxidant properties were also measured, bisbenzyltetrahydroisoquinolinealkaloids 3–6 showed the strongestantioxidant activities in ABTS assay.

        Studies on Chemical Composition of Light Sensitive Albino Tea Cultivars

        Tea quality depends on chemical composition in tea leaves, which varies with genetic factors or tea cultivars, resulting in differences in sensory quality between tea cultivars. To investigate the chemical bases of sensory quality of albino tea cultivars, chemical compositions of light sensitive albino tea cultivars ‘Huangjinya’ and ‘Yujinxiang’ were tested in the present paper. It showed that water soluble extracts were 46.3% and 45.4% on dry base in albino tea cultivars ‘Yujinxiang’ and ‘Huangjinya’. Contents of total amino acids in ‘Yujinxiang’ and ‘Huangjinya’were 5.08% and 5.19%, being 50% higher than ‘Fudingdabai’. However, content of catechins in the albino tea cultivars was significantly lower than ‘Fudingdabai’. It is considered that high levels of water soluble extracts and amino acids, but medium level of polyphenols were the chemical factors leading to the brisk and mellow taste of the albino tea cultivars.

      • GSTP1, ERCC1 and ERCC2 Polymorphisms, Expression and Clinical Outcome of Oxaliplatin-based Adjuvant Chemotherapy in Colorectal Cancer in Chinese Population

        Aim: Platinum agents have shown to be effective in the treatment of colorectal cancer. We assessed whether single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) in GSTP1, ERCC1 Asn118Asn and ERCC2 Lys751Gln might predict the overall survival in patients receiving oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy in a Chinese population. Methods: SNPs of GSTP1, ERCC1 Asn118Asn and ERCC2 Lys751Gln in 335 colorectal cancer patients were assessed using TaqMan nuclease assays. Results: At the time of final analysis on Nov. 2011, the median follow-up period was 37.7 months (range from 1 to 60 months). A total of 229 patients died during follow-up. Our study showed GSTP1 Val/Val (HR=0.44, 95% CI=0.18-0.98), ERCC1 C/C (HR=0.20, 95% CI=0.10-0.79) and ERCC2 G/G (HR=0.48, 95% CI=0.19-0.97) to be significantly associated with better survival of colorectal cancer. GSTP1 Val/Val, ERCC1 C/C and ERCC2 G/G were also related to longer survival among patients with colon cancer, with HRs (95% CIs) of 0.41 (0.16-0.91), 0.16 (0.09-0.74) and 0.34 (0.16-0.91), respectively. Conclusion: GSTP1, GSTP1, ERCC1 Asn118Asn and ERCC2 Lys751Gln genotyping might facilitate tailored oxaliplatin-based chemotherapy for colorectal cancer patients.

        Feedforward coefficient identification and nonlinear composite feedback control with applications to 3-DOF planar motor

        Due to modeling errors, accurate feedforward coefficient of the controller cannot be obtained with the standard method on the basis of the nominal model. Meanwhile, the system is uncertain in practice. Consequently, the MIMO (multi-input multi-output) system of the planar motor cannot be completely decoupled by feedback linearization, and the convergence of the tracking errors is no longer guaranteed. In order to improve the robustness and the tracking ability of the planar motor, a feedforward coefficient identification method and nonlinear composite feedback controller are proposed, thus guaranteeing stability by Lyapunov theory, wherein the feedforward coefficient can be obtained by the PD control experiment. The results of two different trajectory tracking experiments show that it is more accurate than the standard method. Moreover, this coefficient is suitable for different trajectories, so it avoids the drawback of ILC (iterative learning control) method, by which the feedforward term obtained cannot be reused if the length of the trajectory changes. The nonlinear composite feedback controller consists of u1 and u2 terms. u1 is designed to compensate for modeling errors, therefore the robustness is improved and the coupling effects among multi-DOF (degrees of freedom) are reduced. In balancing the trade-off between disturbance rejection and noise sensitivity, an amplitude-based variable-gain function is applied in u2. The trajectory tracking experimental results show that the overall controller is an attractive approach for the uncertain multi-DOF systems.

      • Electronic Book Recommendation Method Based on Group User Behavior Analysis

        With the rapid development of the Internet, for-profit site need to analyze the user's behavior and provide more satisfactory service. Therefore, the classification of network behavior analysis and the further research based on it are more and more urgent on the agenda. In this paper, a method based on similar aggregation user behavior analysis algorithm is proposed. Addressing the recommendation of personalized books problems is solved by this method. Firstly, the user behavior is analyzed by using the RFM model. Secondly, the Apriori algorithm based on weight increment is applied to mining association rules between users in line with the recent habits of users. Similarity is calculated by Apriori algorithm with using VSM model. In this paper, readers’ browsing history of e-library which is provided by Harbin University of Science and Technology is used as experimental data. This method is compared with the method which does not use the weight increment and similar aggregation. Comparison of results showed that the method of our paper can meet the requirements of the Book Recommendation system.
