Pelleting in Associated with Sodium Monensin Increases the Conjugated Linoleic Acids Concentration in the Milk of Dairy Cows Fed Canola Seeds

De Marchi, Francilaine Eloise,Romero, Jakeline Vieira,Damasceno, Julio Cesar,Grande, Paula Adriana,Zeoula, Lucia Maria, dos Santos, Geraldo Tadeu Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2015 Animal Bioscience Vol.28 No.8

To evaluate the effects of the pelleting and the addition of sodium monensin on production, the chemical and lipid composition of milk and butter physical characteristics, 4 Holstein dairy cows (135 days of lactation) with an average milk production of 14.7 kg/d, were supplemented with a concentrate containing ground canola seeds. The cows were assigned to a $4{\times}4$ Latin square design with a $2{\times}2$ factorial arrangement of treatments: i) ground maize, soybean meal, mineral and vitamin supplements, and ground canola seeds (CG); ii) CG concentrate with 31.5 mg of monensin added per kg of dry matter (DM); iii) CG pelleted concentrate; iv) CG concentrate with monensin addition pelleted. There was no difference in milk production and composition. The addition of monensin increased milk concentration of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), the PUFA/saturated fatty acids (SFA) ratio, and omega 6. The pelleting increased the concentration of monounsaturated fatty acids, the PUFA/SFA ratio, and the omega 6/omega 3 ratio, but decreased the concentration of SFA. The association between pelleting and the addition of monensin increased the concentration of conjugated linoleic acids by 46.9%. The physical characteristics of butter were not affected by the evaluated diets. We concluded that the concentrate with 31.5 mg of monensin added per kg DM basis combined with the pelleting improves the lipid composition of milk from Holstein cows that are on pasture and supplemented with ground canola seeds, without changing the production, milk composition, and spreadability of butter.

Development of metal organic framework filled PDMS/PI composite membranes for biobutanol recovery

        Aslıhan Çalhan,Sennur Deniz,Julio Romero,Ayça Hasanoğlu 한국화학공학회 2019 Korean Journal of Chemical Engineering Vol.36 No.9

Butanol is a second generation biofuel with high potential to replace fossil fuels in the future. The main drawbacks in biobutanol production are the low yields of operation and high cost of separation. In this study, n-butanol recovery from its aqueous solutions was carried out by pervaporation as an alternative separation process using polyimide supported polydimethylsiloxane membranes, which were especially prepared for this purpose. To enhance the separation efficiency of the membrane, metal organic framework fillers of MOF-199 were included in its structure. Several combinations of polyimide supported PDMS active layered membranes were prepared with the fillers in each layer of the membrane, in both layers of membrane and membranes without fillers. Thus, the effect of the fillers on the separation performance was investigated. It was found that the inclusion of MOF-199 enhances the membrane performance; meanwhile, the support layer also contributes to mass transfer of n-butanol. Furthermore, the effect of the process parameters on the pervaporation performance was investigated. Results of pervaporation tests indicate that the developed membranes have a good potential for n-butanol recovery from aqueous mixtures.

Relief of Night-time Symptoms Associated With Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Following 4 Weeks of Treatment With Pantoprazole Magnesium; The Mexican Gastroesophageal Reflux Disease Working Group

( Juan Carlos Lopez Alvarenga ),( William Orr ),( Jose Antonio Vargas Romero ),( Jose Maria Remes Troche ),( Miguel Morales Arambula ),( Julio Cesar Soto Perez ),( Gualberto Mateos Perez ),( Sergio So 대한소화기기능성질환·운동학회 2014 Journal of Neurogastroenterology and Motility (JNM Vol.20 No.1

Background/Aims To evaluate the effectiveness of pantoprazole magnesium (pantoprazole-Mg) 40 mg in the relief of esophageal and extra- esophageal symptoms of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), particularly night-time symptoms. Methods Patients (aged 18-50 years) with 3-month history of heartburn and/or acid regurgitation plus at least one other symptom in the last week were enrolled in a nationwide, prospective and observational study in Mexico. Patients received pantoprazole-Mg 40 mg once daily during 4 weeks. Symptoms were assessed through a physician-administered structured interview and the patient- completed ReQuest in PracticeTM questionnaire. Night-time GERD was defined as arousal from sleep during the night due to GERD-associated symptoms. Results Out of 4,343 patients included at basal visit, 3,665 were considered for the effectiveness per protocol analysis. At baseline, patients had a median of 8 GERD related symptoms. Patients with night-time GERD symptoms (42.7%) were more likely to have extra-esophageal symptoms (P < 0.001) than other GERD patients. Pantoprazole-Mg 40 mg once daily for 4 weeks improved a broad range of GERD-associated symptoms from baseline (80% reduction on physicians assessments; 68-77% reduction on ReQuest in PracticeTM dimensions), including both day- and night-time GERD symptoms; improvements were the greatest for extra-esophageal symptoms in patients with night-time symptoms. Pantoprazole-Mg was well tolerated. Conclusions Pantoprazole-Mg 40 mg significantly improved a broad range of esophageal and extra-esophageal GERD related symptoms including sleep disturbances, as well as well-being, in patients with daytime or night-time GERD, making it a good option for patients with GERD, especially when extra-esophageal and night-time symptoms are present. Immune Response of BALB/c Mice toward Putative Calcium Transporter Recombinant Protein of Trichomonas vaginalis

        Tahali Mendoza-Oliveros,Victor Arana-Argáez,Leidi C. Alvaréz-Sánchez,Julio Lara-Riegos,María Elizbeth Alvaréz-Sánchez,Julio C. Torres-Romero 대한기생충학ㆍ열대의학회 2019 The Korean Journal of Parasitology Vol.57 No.1

Trichomoniasis is a common sexually transmitted infection caused by Trichomonas vaginalis, which actually does not exist a vaccine for control or prevention. Thus, the identification of new and potent immunogens in T. vaginalis, which can contribute to the development of a vaccine against this parasite, is necessary. Therefore, the aim of this work was to evaluate the potential of a recombinant Transient Receptor Potential-like channel of T. vaginalis (TvTRPV), as a promising immunogen in BALB/c mice. First, TvTRPV was cloned and expressed as a recombinant protein in Escherichia coli BL21 cells and purified by nickel affinity. Next, BALB/c mice were immunized and the antibody levels in mice serum and cytokines from the supernatant of macrophages and from co-culture systems were evaluated. Recombinant TvTRPV triggered high levels of specific total IgG in sera from the immunized mice. Also, a statistically significant increase of cyto- kines: IL-1β, IL-6, and TNF-α after stimulation with the corresponding antigens in vitro, was identified. Moreover, co-cul- tures using CD4+ T cells from immunized mice were able to identify higher levels of IL-10 and IFN-γ. These results were useful to validate the immunogenicity of TvTRPV in BALB/c mice, where IL-10-IFN-γ-secreting cells could play a role in infection control, supporting the potential of TvTRPV as a promising target for vaccine against T. vaginalis.
