Quantification of viable spores is a time taking task due to the lack of rapid, efficient and accurate methods. This studypresented a simple spectrophotometric method for the detection of viable spores based on spore’s property of losing refractivityduring the germination process. By comparison of the results obtained by both spectrophotometric method and colonycounting method, a good linear correlation (R2 = 0.99) was achieved between viable spore concentration and OD loss underappropriate conditions. To avoid interference from ungerminable spores and vegetative cells, a turbidity complementationstrategy of keeping the initial concentration of spore suspensions at the same and relatively lower level was required. Thecalibration equation developed could be used to predict the viable spore yield produced in a series of fermentation experiments. The experimental results proved that this novel spectrophotometric method was sensitive, rapid, and easy to performcompared to conventional colony counting method.

Background and Objectives: The influence of pre-intervention coronary physiologic status on outcomes post percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) is not well known. We sought to investigate the prognostic implications of pre-PCI fractional flow reserve (FFR) combined with post-PCI FFR. Methods: A total of 1,479 PCI patients with pre-and post-PCI FFR data were analyzed. The patients were classified according to the median values of pre-PCI FFR (0.71) and post-PCI FFR (0.88). The primary outcome was target vessel failure (TVF) at 2 years. Results: The risk of TVF was higher in the low pre-PCI FFR group than in the high pre-PCI FFR group (hazard ratio, 1.82; 95% confidence interval, 1.15–2.87; p=0.011). In 4 group comparisons, the cumulative incidences of TVF at 2 years were 3.8%, 4.1%, 4.8%, and 10.2% in the high pre-/high post-, low pre-/high post-, high pre-/low post-, and low pre-/low post-PCI FFR groups, respectively. The risk of TVF was the highest in the low pre-/low post-PCI FFR group among the groups (p values for comparisons <0.05). In addition, the high pre-/low post-PCI FFR group presented a comparable risk of TVF with the high post-PCI FFR groups (p values for comparison >0.05). When the prognostic value of the post-PCI FFR was evaluated according to the pre-PCI FFR, the risk of TVF significantly decreased with an increase in post-PCI FFR in the low pre-PCI FFR group, but not in the high pre-PCI FFR group. Conclusions: Pre-PCI FFR was associated with clinical outcomes after PCI, and the prognostic value of post-PCI FFR differed according to the pre-PCI FFR.

Background/Aims: Enteroenteric intussusception in Peutz-Jeghers syndrome (EI-PJS) is traditionally treated by surgery. However, enteroscopic treatment is a minimally invasive approach worth attempting. We aimed to develop a risk scoring system to facilitate decision-making in the treatment of EI-PJS. Methods: This was a single-center case-control study, including 80 patients diagnosed with PJS and coexisting intussusception between January 2015 and January 2021 in Air Force Medical Center. We performed logistic regression analysis to identify independent risk factors and allocated different points to each subcategory of risk factors; the total score of individuals ranged from 0 to 9 points. Then, we constructed a risk stratification system based on the possibility of requiring surgery: 0–3 points for “low-risk,” 4–6 points for “moderate-risk,” and 7–9 points for “high-risk.” Results: Sixty-one patients (76.25%) were successfully treated with enteroscopy. Sixteen patients (20.0%) failed enteroscopic treatment and subsequently underwent surgery, and three patients (3.75%) received surgery directly. Abdominal pain, the diameter of the responsible polyp, and the length of intussusception were independent risk factors for predicting the possibility of requiring surgery. According to the risk scoring system, the incidence rates of surgery were 4.44% in the low-risk tier, 30.43% in the moderate-risk tier, and 83.33% in the high-risk tier. From low- to high-risk tiers, the trend of increasing risk was significant (p<0.001). Conclusions: We developed a risk scoring system based on abdominal pain, diameter of the responsible polyps, and length of intussusception. It can preoperatively stratify patients according to the risk of requiring surgery for EI-PJS to facilitate treatment decision-making.

The purpose of this paper is to prove strong convergence theorems for finding a common element of the set of fixed points of a weak relatively nonexpansive mapping and the set of solutions of the variational inequality for an inverse-strongly-monotone mapping by a new hybrid method in a Banach space. We shall give an example which is weak relatively nonexpansive mapping but not relatively nonexpansive mapping in Banach space $l^2$. Our results improve and extend the corresponding results announced by Ying Liu[Ying Liu, Strong convergence theorem for relatively nonexpansive mapping and inverse-strongly-monotone mapping in a Banach space, Appl. Math. Mech. -Engl. Ed. 30(7)(2009), 925-932] and some others.

For the torque decoupled hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) equipped with automated manual transmission (AMT), the motor torque can be used to compensate for traction loss during gear shift. Thus, engine speed regulation can be used to achieve speed synchronization, and the clutch can be removed, which simplifies the overall structure of AMT. A triple-step nonlinear method is proposed in this paper to improve the engine speed tracking accuracy, which utilizes the steady-state, reference trajectory dynamics, and the tracking error information comprehensively. By the expense of the intake manifold pressure tracking performance, the developed controller can guarantee the asymptotic convergence of the engine speed tracking error. After the triple-step controller is deduced, it is verified through co-simulation between AMT HEV plant model in AMESim and controller model in Simulink. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed controller can exert the advantages of the two control inputs: throttle opening α and spark advance deviation Δθ, and certificate the overall gear shift quality, including shift time and vehicle jerk.

A prediction method, based on the Morison equation as well as Froude-Krylov formula, is presented to simulate the loads acting on the columns and caissons of the semi-submersible platform induced by Internal SolitaryWave (ISW) respectively. Combined with the experimental results, empirical formulas of the drag and inertia coefficients in Morison equation can be determined as a function of the Keulegan eCarpenter (KC) number, Reynolds number (Re) and upper layer depth h1=h respectively. The experimental and calculated results are compared. And a good agreement is observed, which proves that the present prediction method can be used for analyzing the ISW-forces on the semi-submersible platform. Moreover, the results also demonstrate the layer thickness ratio has a significant effect upon the maximum horizontal forces on the columns and caissons, but both minimum horizontal and vertical forces are scarcely affected. In addition, the incoming wave directions may also contribute greatly to the values of horizontal forces exerted on the caissons, which can be ignored in the vertical force analysis.

In order to solve the undetected probability of multiple targets in ultra-wideband (UWB) through-the-wall radar imaging (TWRI), a time-delay and amplitude modified back projection (BP) algorithm is proposed. The refraction point is found by Fermat's principle in the presence of a wall, and the time-delay is correctly compensated. On this basis, transmission loss of the electromagnetic wave, the absorption loss of the refraction wave, and the diffusion loss of the spherical wave are analyzed in detail. Amplitude compensation is deduced and tested on a model with a single-layer wall. The simulating results by finite difference time domain (FDTD) show that it is effective in increasing the scattering intensity of the targets behind the wall. Compensation for the diffusion loss in the spherical wave also plays a main role. Additionally, the two-layer wall model is simulated. Then, the calculating time and the imaging quality are compared between a single-layer wall model and a two-layer wall model. The results illustrate the performance of the time-delay and amplitude-modified BP algorithm with multiple targets and multiple-layer walls of UWB TWRI.
