        Photocatalytic degradation of crystal violet and benzimidazole using Ag-CoFe2O4 and its composite with graphitic carbon nitride

        The classical co-precipitation technique was carried out for the preparation of cobalt ferrite (CFN), and Ag-doped cobalt ferrite (AgCFN). Composite with graphitic carbon nitride (AgCFN@gCN) was prepared by employing the ultrasonication method. Photocatalytic degradation activity of synthesized materials was evaluated using crystal violet (coloured compound) and benzimidazole (colourless compound) under sunlight. Various physiochemical methods such as UV–Visible, XRD, SEM, and FT-IR spectroscopy were employed for the characterization of prepared samples. XRD was used for structural characterization. The prepared nanomaterials were sized up to be < 09 nm. FT-IR spectroscopy was exploited for the functional group characterization. Surface morphology was perceived through Scanning Electron Microscope. Optical analysis was carried out using a UV–Visible spectrophotometer. The photodegradation efficiencies for crystal violet and benzimidazole were ascertained to be in the order of CFN < AgCFN < AgCFN@gCN, under sunlight. Among the synthesized photocatalysts, AgCFN@gCN was discovered to have the highest photocatalytic degradation efficiency of 52.72% and 84.21% for benzimidazole and crystal violet, respectively. The higher catalytic activity of AgCFN@gCN can be associated with its high surface area and the presence of active sites of the gCN sheets. Role of electrons (e−), holes (h+), and hydroxyl radicals (OH*) in the photocatalytic activity was also assessed.

        Study on the synthesis and activity of Ag/LaFeO3/CNTs for photodegradation of harmful pollutants under visible light irradiation

        The current study is based on the synthesis of lanthanum ferrite (LF), silver-doped lanthanum ferrite (AgLF), and its composite with CNTs (AgLF@CNT) for degradation of organic effluents under visible light. The physiochemical characteristics of synthesized nanomaterials were examined by X-ray diffraction technique (XRD), Fourier transforms infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV–Visible spectroscopy. XRD results revealed that the synthesized product has a crystalline structure. Tauc plot method was used to analyze the bandgap energy of the prepared nanocatalysts. Bare and doped lanthanum ferrite showed bandgap energy of 2.72 eV and 1.81 eV, respectively. The % degradation shown by LF, AgLF and AgLF@CNT for the degradation of methylene orange was 37.93%, 53.98%, and 78.26%, respectively. AgLF@CNT showed 74.42% degradation of crystal violet at the rate of 0.007 min−1. AgLF@CNT has an effective visible efficiency of photocatalysis for methylene orange and crystal violet degradation and gives better photodegradation efficiency due to a large number of active sites, greater surface area, good oxidizer and greater stability of carbon nanotubes.

        Chronic Musculocutaneous Nerve Injury: An Important Differential in Progressive Arm Atrophy

        An isolated musculocutaneous nerve (MCN) injury is a rare condition that can be easily missed if it presents late. A 28-year-old man reported painless and progressive wasting of the right arm for 6 months. On examination, there was visible wasting of the right biceps brachii muscle along with its slight weakness, depressed biceps jerk, and an impaired pinprick sensation in the lateral antebrachial cutaneous nerve distribution. He described a history of a road traffic accident 14 months beforehand. Based on the history and clinical examination, the differential diagnosis included an isolated MCN injury, upper trunk plexopathy, lateral cord plexopathy, C5/6 radiculopathy, and monomelic amyotrophy involving the C5/6 myotomes on the right side. The results of nerve conduction studies and electromyography were consistent with chronic proximal MCN neuropathy (right). In cases of arm wasting without pain or numbness, MCN injury should be included in the differential diagnosis, even in the presence of good power of the elbow flexors. The importance of detailed history-taking and clinical correlation cannot be over-emphasized in such cases.
