A computational expression of initial binary feet and surface ternary feet in metrical theory

Under the strict binary foot parsing (Kager 1993), stray elements may occur between bimoraic feet. The stray element may be associated to the preceding foot or following foot at surface level. Stray element adjunction is the mechanism for achieving surface exhaustivity. Each language has its own unique mechanism of stray element adjunction in order to achieve surface exhaustivity. In Japanese loanwords, the strict binary initial foot parsing creates stray moras. Inaba`s (1996) phonetic experiment shows that the word-medial stray moras associate to preceding feet, and provides evidence for the initial unaccented mora as extrametrical. Since the theoretical points I advance are deeply embedded in other languages, I present a set of possible parameters. Based on the set of parameters, I create a computer program which derives the surface foot structures of input loanwords in Japanese, Fijian, and Ponapean.

For the purpose of observing distribution of estrogen and progesterone receptors in the scalp tissue, the authors had biopsy of dermal tissue from each scalp region of 5 men and women individually according to their age, and then extracted estrogen and progesterone receptors in the protoplasm and measured them by the radioisotope method. In consequence, we noticed that a comperatively small amount of these receptors exist in the scalp irrespective of age of them.

Three Phase Voltage Source Soft Switching Inverter with High Frequency Pulse Current Transformers

In this paper, a high frequency transformer - assisted auxiliary active resonant commutated snubber (HFTA-ARCS) for voltage source soft switching pulse width modulated power conversion circuits is presented. A three phase voltage source type soft switching inverter incorporating HFTA-ARCS circuits in its three bridge legs can reduce current rating of auxiliary active power switches and has sensorless simplified control scheme which any specified boost current management is not required for soft switching. Its operation principle and digital control scheme are described and a practical design method of circuit parameters on this HFTA-ARCS circuit is also introduced on the basis of computer simulation. Moreover, this space voltage vector modulated soft switching inverter system with DSP-based digital control scheme Is discussed and its effectiveness is proved on the basis of performance evaluations. The operating performances of this inverter system are also compared with those of conventional three-phase hard switching inverter under practical conditions of specified parameters.

For Korean people, one typical phenomenon of the Liberation from Japan's colonial control meant recovery of their own language and characters. Due to the 36 years of education in the Japanese language, and due to the fact that Koreans were forced to use Japanese in their daily life, toward the end of the colonial period, the usage of the Korean language was quite confused right after Liberation. Thus, the most urgent task for the new establishment in the field of education was to recover their national language, Korean, and to eliminate the illiterates in Hangul by removing the habit of using the Japanese language which regarded as the remains of the colonial control. This chapter attempts, first of all, to outline the situation of the Korean language education from the viewpoints of teacher training/retraining and of publication of Korean language textbooks for primary and secondary education, secondly, to discuss the question of "purification of national language" and the exclusive use of Hangul, and finally to trace the process of development of the social education. The approach of this study may help us understand the structure of the "Hangul campaign" which took several forms in its development such as recovery of the Korean language, spread of the Hangul script, elimination of illiteracy, compilation of textbooks in Hangul, exclusive use of Hangul, etc. It may also contribute to understand to historical implication of language education in Korea today.

34명의 일본인 액취증환자와 91명의 정상인의 조직적합성항원형(HLA-Antigen)을 Terasaki방법으로 조사하여 환자와 정상인 간에 HLA-항원들의 유전자빈도들간의 차이유무를 Gart와 Nam의 방법으로 비교한 결과 통계학적으로 유의성 있는 HLA-항원을 발견하지 못하였다.

Background: Type 1 diabetes mellitus induced by immune-checkpoint inhibitors (ICI-T1DM) is a rare critical entity. However, the etiology of ICI-T1DM remains unclear. Methods: In order to elucidate risk factors for ICI-T1DM, we evaluated the clinical course and immunological status of patients with ICI-T1DM who had been diagnosed during 2016 to 2021. Results: Seven of 871 (0.8%, six men and one woman) patients developed ICI-T1DM. We revealed that the allele frequencies of human leukocyte antigen (HLA)-DPA1*02:02 and DPB1*05:01 were significantly higher in the patients with ICI-T1DM In comparison to the controls who received ICI (11/14 vs. 10/26, P=0.022; 11/14 vs. 7/26, P=0.0027, respectively). HLA-DRB1*04:05, which has been found to be a T1DM susceptibility allele in Asians, was also observed as a high-risk allele for ICI-T1DM. The significance of the HLA-DPB1*05:01 and DRB1*04:05 alleles was confirmed by an analysis of four additional patients. The absolute/relative neutrophil count, neutrophils-lymphocyte ratio, and neutrophil-eosinophil ratio increased, and the absolute lymphocyte count and absolute/relative eosinophil count decreased at the onset as compared with 6 weeks before. In two patients, alterations in cytokines and chemokines were found at the onset. Conclusion: Novel high-risk HLA alleles and haplotypes were identified in ICI-T1DM, and peripheral blood factors may be utilized as biomarkers.

Distribution of marine type of Aquabirnavirus (MABV) was examined in shellfish and fish from Okinawa and Ishigaki Islands, Japan, where water temperature is higher than 25°C through the year. Genome detection and virus isolation were performed for shellfish and fish samples, and the results revealed the prevalent distribution of MABV in diverse species in the area, although isolation was not frequently. Detection rate of MABV genome in bivalves was higher than gastropods, which was similar result to former report in mainland of Japan. Furthermore, the unique five-nucleotide deletion was found with a high rate of occurrence in the MABV genome from shellfish and fish. This study showed distribution status of MABV in organisms in subtropical waters by wide monitoring, and discovered new genome variation in VP2/NS region of this virus.
Moras, Syllables, and Feet in Japanese

Han (1994) argues that moras are isochronous units, but no inference is drawn for isochrony regarding the length of the syllable in Japanese. As the tempo of speech increases, however, the phonetic reality of moras seems to become less obvious (Beckman 1982 and Larish 1989). This paper provides a new insight on the apparent gap between phonology and phonetics, which comes from the distinction between Initial Foot Parsing (IFP) and Surface Foot Parsing (SFP). Moreover, it emphasizes an important consideration of timing units larger than moras.
