      • 131I-labeled chitosan hydrogels for radioembolization: A preclinical study in small animals

        Hwang, H.,Kim, K.I.,Kwon, J.,Kim, B.S.,Jeong, H.S.,Jang, S.J.,Oh, P.S.,Park, H.S.,Lim, S.T.,Sohn, M.H.,Jeong, H.J. Pergamon Press 2017 Nuclear medicine and biology Vol.52 No.-

<P>Advances in knowledge: Transarterial embolization is a conceivable treatment option for patients with inoperable liver cancer to mitigate the disease progression. Recently, we have developed chitosan-based hydrogel microparticles. In the present study, the hydrogel microparticles were radiolabeled with I-131 for treatment of liver cancer. Our results demonstrated that a hepatic arterial injection of I-125 -labeled Chi resulted in substantial liver accumulation, which was accompanied by virtually no extrahepatic deposition. The results of the present study also showed that administration of I-131 Chi markedly suppressed tumor growth, compared to controls and to animals receiving unlabeled Chi. I-131 -labeled chitosan hydrogel microparticles represent a new therapeutic approach for treatment of liver cancer. (C) 2017 Elsevier Inc. All rights reserved.</P>

Effect of the Length of Feed Withdrawal on Weight Loss, Yield and Meat Color of Broiler

        Kim, D.H.,Yoo, Y.M.,Kim, S.H.,Jang, B.G.,Park, B.Y.,Cho, S.H.,Seong, P.N.,Hah, K.H.,Lee, J.M.,Kim, Y.K.,Hwang, I.H. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2007 Animal Bioscience Vol.20 No.1

The current study was conducted to determine the optimum length of feed withdrawal for pre-harvest broilers. A total of three hundred broilers were sampled from an industrial population, and 30 chicks for each weight group (e.g., 1.5 and 2.5 kg) were randomly assigned to feed withdrawal treatments for 0, 3, 6, 9 and 12 h. Weight loss, yield, muscle pH, objective meat color and weights of gastro intestinal contents, crop, gizzard, provenriculus, small intestine, caecum, and rectum were determined. Live weight loss was significantly (p<0.05) increased as length of feed withdrawal extended. A significant (p<0.05) carcass yield for both 1.5 and 2.5 kg groups coincided after 9 and 6 h feed withdrawal, respectively. Net weights of intestinal contents for crop and gizzard were significantly (p<0.05) reduced by 6 h, and the reduction for proventriculus and small intestine occurred from 3 h. A noticeable effect of feed withdrawal on pH for breast muscle at 3 h postmortem occurred only when chicks were fasted for 3 h of which pH (6.05) was significantly (p<0.05) higher than that for other groups including the control (5.74). There was a linear tendency of higher lightness (Hunter L* value) numerically for chicks fasted for longer periods. The highest coefficient of determinations of regression models to estimate weight loss as a function of fasting period and body weights were achieved, when the models included both linear and quadratic terms for fasting period, and linear term for both 1.5 ($R^2=0.76$) and 2.5 kg ($R^2=0.78$) body weight groups. Given the practical aspect, approximately 1.5 kg of body weight is dominant, weight loss could be predicted by the following function; live weight $loss=26.6-0.28{\times}(fasting period)^2+12.34{\times}pasting\;period-0.012{\times}body\;weight$, $R^2=0.76$. Current data implied that the optimum fasting time for pre-slaughter chicks varied depending on slaughter weight; 6 and 9-h fasting were recommendable for 2.5 and 1.5 kg chicks, with little effect on objective meat color.

      • Effects of O3 and H2O as oxygen sources on the atomic layer deposition of HfO2 gate dielectrics at different deposition temperatures

        Lee, S.,Kim, H.,Lee, J.,Yu, I. H.,Lee, J. H.,Hwang, C. Royal Society of Chemistry 2014 Journal of Materials Chemistry C Vol.2 No.14

Variations in the growth behavior, physical and electrical properties, and microstructure of the atomic layer deposited (ALD) HfO2 gate dielectrics were examined with two types of oxygen sources: O-3 and H2O for the given Hf-precursor of Hf[N(CH3)(C2H5)](4). The ALD temperature windows for O-3 and H2O were 240-320 degrees C and 200-280 degrees C, respectively, with the growth rate of HfO2 using O-3 being higher than that of the films using H2O within the ALD window. While the film density of HfO2 using O-3 decreased, the film density of HfO2 using H2O increased with the decreasing ALD temperature. As the deposition temperature decreased, the amount of impurity in the HfO2 film with the O-3 oxidant increased due to the insufficient reaction, which led to the crystallization of the HfO2 film into the tetragonal structure after the post-deposition annealing at 600 degrees C. The films with a lower density and a higher carbon-impurity concentration retained the portion of the tetragonal phase (similar to 30%) to the highest annealing temperature of 1000 degrees C. However, the HfO2 films grown at 200 degrees C with H2O showed the best electrical performance, which could be ascribed to the highest density, low impurity concentration, and negligible involvement of the interfacial low dielectric layer.

Effect of Postmortem Metabolic Rate on Meat Color

Park, B.Y.,Lee, J.M.,Hwang, I.H. Asian Australasian Association of Animal Productio 2007 Animal Bioscience Vol.20 No.4

The current study was conducted to evaluate carcass characteristics, objectives and sensory meat qualities of Hanwoo longissimus muscle as affected by ultimate pH. Twenty-four steers and bulls ($556{\pm}53$ kg and $0.63{\pm}0.32$cm for live weight and backfat thickness, respectively) were used. As there was a linear relationship (r = 0.77) between lean meat color and ultimate pH, cattles were thus segregated into normal $pH{\leq}5.8$, Normal, n = 13) and DFD (pH>5.8, n = 11) groups. Normal pH group had significantly (p<0.05) higher carcass weight, marbling score and backfat thickness than those for high pH group, while fat color and lean meat color were inverse. In principle component analysis for co-ordinates of DFD and normal meats, fat color, lean meat color, texture, time to pH 6.2 and pH at 24 h postmortem were associated with the positive range of the first factor (67.5%) while backfat thickness marbling score and temperature at 24 h were placed in negative values. The rate constant of decline in pH (pH k) did not differ between the two groups, implying that initial pH (i.e., pH at slaughtering) differed between two groups. Contour mapping of pH k between pH at 1 and 24 h postmortem indicated that high pH k was related to lower pHs at 1 and 24 h postmortem. This suggested that the high pH cattles (i.e., DFD cattle) resulted from their own potential. Although the time to reach pH 6.2 was significantly (p<0.05) shorter for normal meat (i.e., 3.2 h) than that for DFD one (i.e., 19.8 h), there were no significantly differences in both WB-shear force and sensory attributes. Given that the experimental animals were sampled from a similar group, which implies a similar myoglobin pigment content, the current data suggested that pre- and post-slaughter animal handling likely had a significant effect on ultimate pH and consequently meat color of Hanwoo longissimus muscle, and also small animals with lower marbling score and backfat thickness had a higher risk for DFD meat.

      • Reclassification of Halomonas caseinilytica Wu et al. 2008 as a later synonym of Halomonas sinaiensis Romano et al. 2007, and emendation of the species description

        Hwang, C. Y.,Lee, I.,Yoon, S. J.,Lee, Y. M.,Lee, W. S.,Lee, H. K. Springer Science + Business Media 2016 Antonie van Leeuwenhoek Vol.109 No.10

<P>The taxonomic relationship between Halomonas sinaiensis DSM 18067(T) and Halomonas caseinilytica JCM 14802(T) has not been established, despite the high similarity (99.6 %) of their 16S rRNA gene sequences. To clarify their taxonomic positions, a polyphasic approach was applied to both type strains. Genomic relatedness analyses between H. sinaiensis DSM 18067(T) and H. caseinilytica JCM 14802(T) resulted in an average nucleotide identity of 99.5 % and an estimated DNA-DNA hybridization of 96.1 % by the genome-to-genome distance calculator, indicating that they belong to a single species. Phenotypic and chemotaxonomic characteristics showed no pronounced differences between the two type strains. Based on the results of this polyphasic study, it is proposed that H. caseinilytica JCM 14802(T) is a later heterotypic synonym of H. sinaiensis DSM 18067(T). An emended description for the species H. sinaiensis is given.</P>

      • Effects of line width and dose on electron beam nano-patterning of ma-N 2403

Hwang, I.-H.,Lee, J.-H. Inst. of Eng. and Technol 2006 Electronics letters Vol.42 No.4

The effects of dose on pattern shape were evaluated for electron beam nano-lithography of a negative photoresist, ma-N 2403, under an electron beam condition of 20 keV with a probe current of 9 pA. With sufficient design width, i.e. 250 nm, there was negligible loss of pattern height, which was attributed to the combined dose of the incident electron beam and the back scattered electrons. The dose for narrow design width should be adjusted to obtain patterns of high aspect ratio with no loss of height and reduced pattern width difference from the design width.

      • Hydrogenation of carbon monoxide to methane over mesoporous nickel-M-alumina (M=Fe, Ni, Co, Ce, and La) xerogel catalysts

        Hwang, S.,Lee, J.,Hong, U.G.,Jung, J.C.,Koh, D.J.,Lim, H.,Byun, C.,Song, I.K. Korean Society of Industrial and Engineering Chemi 2012 Journal of industrial and engineering chemistry Vol.18 No.1

Mesoporous nickel(30wt%)-M(10wt%)-alumina xerogel (30Ni10MAX) catalysts with different second metal (M=Fe, Ni, Co, Ce, and La) were prepared by a single-step sol-gel method for use in the methane production from carbon monoxide and hydrogen. In the methanation reaction, yield for CH4 decreased in the order of 30Ni10FeAX>30Ni10NiAX>30Ni10CoAX>30Ni10CeAX>30Ni10LaAX. Experimental results revealed that CO dissociation energy of the catalyst and H2 adsorption ability of the catalyst played a key role in determining the catalytic performance of 30Ni10MAX catalyst in the methanation reaction. Optimal CO dissociation energy of the catalyst and large H2 adsorption ability of the catalyst were favorable for methane production. Among the catalysts tested, 30Ni10FeAX catalyst with the most optimal CO dissociation energy and the largest H2 adsorption ability exhibited the best catalytic performance in terms of conversion of CO and yield for CH4 in the methanation reaction. The enhanced catalytic performance of 30Ni10FeAX was also due to a formation of nickel-iron alloy and a facile reduction.

      • Novel MnII coordination compounds constructed from benzoate and various bipyridyl ligands: Magnetic property and catalytic activity

        Hwang, I.H.,Jo, Y.D.,Kim, H.Y.,Kang, J.,Noh, J.Y.,Hyun, M.Y.,Kim, C.,Kim, Y.,Kim, S.J. Pergamon Press 2012 Polyhedron Vol.42 No.1

Three new MnII-benzoates coordination polymers containing various bipyridyl ligands (3,3'-dipicoylamine (3), 3-methylisoquinoline (4), and 4,4'-dithiopyridine (5)) and a [Mn6(O2CPh)10(μ4-OH)2(CH3OH)3(H2O)].1.5(C4H4N2) cluster (1) have prepared and their structures were determined. The bipyridyl ligands can act as bridging ligands to produce 1-D or 2-D polymeric compounds. The pyrazine produced a Mn6 cluster molecule, and 3-methylisoquinoline did a benzoate-bridged 1-D MnII compound. The Mn6 cluster (1) and 1-D MnII compounds (3) and (4) show antiferromagnetic property. The compounds 1, 3, and 4 have catalyzed efficiently the transesterification of a variety of esters, while 5 has displayed a very slow conversion. The thermal stabilities of these complexes were also examined.

절식, 스트레스 및 냉각속도가 돼지도체의 사후 대사속도와 등심근의 육질에 미치는 영향

        황인호,박범영,조수현,김진형,이종문 한국동물자원과학회 2004 한국축산학회지 Vol.46 No.1

The study was conducted to investigate the effects of practical variations in feed restriction, pre-slaughter handing and chilling regime on pork quality during ageing. A total of twenty male landraces were allocated into three treatments(i.e., pre-slaughter feeding, stress and chilling regime) in a factorial arrangement. pH, temperature, free calcium ions, WB-shear force, sarcomere length, cooking loss, drip loss and objective color were determined during rigor development and/or 1, 3, 7 d postmortem. Pre-slaughter chasing stress for approximately 15 min had no effects on pH/temperature profile and objective meat quality. There was an interaction(P<0.05) between the fasting treatment and chilling regime for muscle temperature at pH 6.2. Sarcomere length indicated that the current experiment conditions did not induce muscle shortening, with 1.7 to 108㎛, in spite of a significant effect of the fasting treatment (P<0.01). Pigs fed until the morning of slaughter showed a low WB-shear force(P<0.05) until 3 d at 1℃. The treatment also resulted in a higher Hunter L* and a*(P<0.05) at 24 h and 7 d. Fasted pigs showed a significantly(P<0.05) reduced cooking loss. The current results indicated that feeding upon the morning of slaughter became detrimental on meat color and the negative effect on cooking loss were linearly elevated with increased ageing time. On the other hand, WB-shear force did not distinguishable after 3 d. Collectively, it appeared that feed restriction from a day before slaughter could produce more a desirable meat quality at the time of consuming. However, the limited effect of animal handling and chilling rate on meat quality is not necessarily to extend to that these do not affect pork quality, as that largely depends on experimental design.
