The purpose of this study was to evaluate the efficacy of red rose petal extract (RRPE), white rose petal extract (WRPE) and Ganoderma lucidium culture (GLC) in a mouse model of atopic dermatitis induced by ovalbumin (OVA). Female BALB/c mice were intraperitoneally sensitized with OVA (10 ㎍) plus aluminum hydroxide (alum, 4 ㎎) three times weekly and, after 1 week, dermally challenged with patches containing OVA (100 ㎍) for 2 weeks. RRPE, WRPE and GLC were administrated intraperitoneally or orally once a day from day 0 to 35. Intraperitoneal administration of WRPE (5 or 20 ㎎/㎏) inhibited dermal lesions such as erythema/hemorrhage, edema, excoriation and dryness. In particular, oral administration of WRPE (300 ㎎/㎏) markedly attenuated the symptoms as well as epidermal hyperplasia and infiltration of inflammatory cells including mast cells in dermis. In addition, WRPE significantly decreased serum IgE, histamine and interleukin-4 (IL-4) levels. In comparison, despite of inhibitory effects of RRPE and GLC on serum IgE, histamine and/or IL-4 levels, these compounds did not attenuate both the skin symptoms and histopathological findings. Taken together, it is suggested that WRPE could be a potential candidate for the attenuation of chronic atopic dermatitis.

LNG(Liquified Natural Gas) must be vaporized to be used as fuel in the industries, home application and soon. The cold energy generated about latent heat of 120 ㎉/㎏ and 80 kca/㎏ of sensible heat, while the vaporization process. Because air type vaporizer can't effect its vaporization performance properly due to the condensation of moisture in air outside the vaporization of moisture in air outside the vaporizer, 2~3 vaporizers are used alternately. To prevent freezing on the surface of vaporizer and solve the low performance, The heating source of gasification will use the geothermal energy. In this study, as the fundamental investigation to develop the highly efficient LNG vaporizer, When cold energy (Heat Flux : -100, -200, -300 W/m2) is connected to the ground, The soil temperature have been investigated numerically by the unsteady heat conduction equation.

Numerical analysis was carried out to examine the heat transfer and pressure drop characteristics of Plate Heat Exchanger(PHE) for absorption using Computational Fluid Dynamics(CFD) techniques. The Thermal performance and pressure drop are investigated. The computational model is a tree-dimensional narrow channel with angled triangular undulations. Geometric condition of PHE was port size 25㎜, channel plates area 3,465 ㎟. The main operating conditions in PHE, were taken a various Reynolds munber(from 1000 to 8000). The optimum flow pattern were presented with variation of pressure drop.
Fermentation Filtrate of Sweet Potato Improves the Male Reproductive Function ex Vivo and in Vivo

The effects of anthocyanins (SPA) and liquid (SPL) fractions from fermentation filtrate of sweet potato on the male reproductive function were investigated ex vivo and in vivo. In ex vivo study, we determined whether the candidate fractions relax isolated New Zealand white rabbit corpus cavernosum, which was precontracted by phenylephrine (5×10?? M). The results revealed that SPL exerted a concentrationdependent relaxing effect, leading to a median effective concentration (EC??) of 1.12 ㎎/mL, which was superior to SPA (EC?? ≒4.78 ㎎/mL). For the in vivo study, male ICR mice were orally administered SPL (100 ㎎/㎏) for 28 days, and the reproductive organ weights, serum testosterone level, sperm counts and motility were analyzed. SPL remarkably increased the testes and epididymides weights as well as blood testosterone level. In addition, SPL markedly increased both the testicular and epididymal sperm counts, although it did not affect the sperm motility. The results suggest that unknown ingredients in SPL other than anthocyanins have positive effects on the function of the male reproductive system by triggering penile erection, enhancing blood testosterone level, and increasing sperm counts.

<P>The-state-of-the-art bio- and nanotechnology have opened up an avenue to noninvasive liquid biopsy for identifying diseases from biomolecules in bloodstream, especially DNA. In this work, we combined sequence-specific-labeling scheme using mutated clustered regularly interspaced short palindromic repeats associated protein 9 without endonuclease activity (CRISPR/dCas9) and ion concentration polarization (ICP) phenomenon as a mechanism to selectively preconcentrate targeted DNA molecules for rapid and direct detection. Theoretical analysis on ICP phenomenon figured out a critical mobility, elucidating two distinguishable concentrating behaviors near a nanojunction, a stacking and a propagating behavior. Through the modulation of the critical mobility to shift those behaviors, the C-C chemokine receptor type 5 (<I>CCR5</I>) sequences were optically detected without PCR amplification. Conclusively, the proposed dCas9-mediated genetic detection methodology based on ICP would provide rapid and accurate micro/nanofluidic platform of liquid biopsies for disease diagnostics.</P> [FIG OMISSION]</BR>
Hydrogel Microcapsules with a Thin Oil Layer for Programmable Release via Diverse Stimuli

We present a hydrogel microcapsule with an intermediate thin oil layer to achieve programmable release of a broad range of cargoes triggered via diverse stimuli. A drop based microfluidic technique is utilized to generate triple emulsion droplets with a thin oil layer that separates the innermost aqueous phase from the hydrogel prepolymer phase, which solidified into a hydrogel shell via photopolymerization. The thin oil layer within the hydrogel microcapsule acts as an effective diffusion barrier, allowing encapsulation of diverse small cargoes within a porous hydrogel shell until a stimulus is applied to destabilize the oil layer. We demonstrate that diverse stimuli including osmotic stress, chemical dissolution, mechanical stress and can be used to release the encapsulated cargo on-demand. In addition, osmotic stress and the thickness of hydrogel shell can be independently controlled to tune the onset time of release as well as the release behavior of multiple cargo encapsulated hydrogel microcapsule; the release can be either simultaneous or selective.

This study presents characteristics of Eco-Friendly cascade vapor compression refrigeration system, where two non-ODP and low GWP refrigerants of Propane and Ethane were applied at high and low stage system. These refrigerants were charged into the system which is initially designed for R22 and R23 refrigeration system. By varying the amount of refrigerant charged into the high-stage circuit by 0.1800~0.3470 ㎏, temperature, pressure, and power consumption of the system was observed. The most influenced temperature distribution by the variation of high stage refrigerant mass is temperature of cascade evaporator outlet (HS evaporator outlet) and compressor outlet temperature in the high stage circuit. Evaporation temperature in the low stage system decreases as the mass of refrigerant R290 in the high stage increases. Finally, compressor electric power consumption decreases as the mass of the refrigerant in the high stage increase.
